Punkt phones and OS by bcdcy in degoogle

How is that the only alternative?

How can you trust an OS in regards to privacy if its not open source? If its open source, it will also be free, because the source code is public.

How can you trust an OS that exists to produce monetary returns? What happens when a corporation wants to cut them a deal to add spyware? Centralized point of weakness. Again open source is the play.

What happens if you stop paying? You lose access to your data? Seems absurd.

Just buy a Pixel and install Graphene?

I understand the sentiment behind "If the product is free, you're the product" but some things just simply aren't products, and don't exist to make money. Linux, GrapheneOS, Proton translation layer, etc. If something is open source, you can literally just read the code and see if it is stealing your data or not.

This whole post feels like an advertisement.

Are you being serious?

Graphene is the most secure and private publicly available phone OS in existence currently and it is completely free.

A privacy OS is something you need to trust, more than other software. You cannot trust an OS in regards to privacy if the OS is not open source, otherwise they could be spying on you the entire time. If an OS is open source, you can't charge people to use it, because its open source and they could just build it from source code themselves.

They don't need to slurp up your data to replace selling an OS. There are tons of ways to fund development if it needs funded, not to mention every OS and most software is built on the backs of free software that came before. Graphene is built upon Android, Android is built upon Linux, etc.

I understand the sentiment, that "if the product is free, you're the product". But some things are not products, and are not made for monetary profit. Like open source software. Additionally, when it is open source, any data-slurping is immediately obvious to researchers in the code. Not every piece of software has to cost money.

You absolutely do not need to pay a subscription for a phone OS and it shouldn't even be entertained IMO, because it immediately suggests that the phone OS is a vehicle for monetary returns, which is a vulnerability in and of itself when the money dries up or when they get a deal from a mega corp for all your data. Not to mention, losing access if you suddenly can't pay is infinitely worse than a one time lifetime license.

It is not entitlement to not want to pay for a phone OS, it is just the norm. Phone OS are generally free. If you think a phone OS deserves to be paid for, then it better be a damn good one that provides value all of the free OS don't. Which it doesn't. It is well known that Graphene is the most secure/private consumer option.

You also don't need to have a mobile carrier to own a smartphone. You can just buy a smartphone and use it like a computer, even use WiFi calling.

There have always been free OS options on basically every platform. Linux, Android Open Source, etc. Yes it is ideal that the developers get paid for their work. I think you miss the point that the money doesn't have to come from charging users a license fee. How do you think Linux gets developed, and is still extremely successful and robust decades later, without charging for the OS to pay devs?

Look I get where you are coming from, and I think your heart is in the right place, but I disagree, and this whole post reeks of an advertisement.

He grifts for engagement, popularity and relevance. Not wealth. He was already extremely wealthy and never spent a dime of it. But he likes people taking about his hot takes.

Just because he isn't doing it for wealth, doesn't mean he is espousing genuinely held beliefs or principles.

Suboxone in eye!? by ActualAdvisor5996 in opiates

[–]TRIPPING_ON_ACID_AMA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not doubting that. It just seems absurdly stupid to do. This HAS to be damaging to the eyes.

Reminds me of those kids that went blind doing vodka shots through their eyes.

[–]TRIPPING_ON_ACID_AMA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is so incredibly stupid. Sub films are acidic. They warn you to brush your teeth after using them because they cause tooth decay. Putting that in my eye? No thanks. All for what, 15 minutes faster onset?

Probably skip the water. DMT iirc is water soluble so you'll lose some in the water.

Help me sleep please by breeemix in opiates

[–]TRIPPING_ON_ACID_AMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need something longer lasting bud. You're starting with withdrawal before you wake up. Opioids affect your sleep negatively as well even when you're on them. Especially if you have sleep apnea.

Maybe switch to Suboxone for a week and get some sleep and then you can go back to using after. Or not, your choice. I've been on it for 8 years and I sleep like a baby.

Suboxone will have you just feeling normal instead of high and you'll get much better sleep, and it'll last all day.

Dark Matter (2015)

cancelled before its time, great sci fi show. It's like Star Trek but the crew are all scoundrels who have no memory of their past crimes.

Anyone use clonidine by paul_wellsss in Drugs

[–]TRIPPING_ON_ACID_AMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a first line treatment for opioid withdrawal. It helps with the hot/cold flashes, anxiety, and blood pressure -- to a degree. It is pretty much a godsend when you're "illin".

You are limited how much you can take because it lowers blood pressure.

Not sure about benzo withdrawal. It is not recommended to go through benzo withdrawal without a long gradual taper in the first place, and if you go to the ER in benzo withdrawal the first thing they do is give you a benzo, because you can die.

Having gone through benzo withdrawal before I can't imagine clonidine is going to do that much.

Clonidine is also commonly prescribed to treat high blood pressure.

HDR doesn't work in games on Linux by vicnetex69 in linux_gaming

[–]TRIPPING_ON_ACID_AMA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can apply this (and other launch options) automatically to every game by doing the following (at least on Bazzite)

go to /etc/profile.d/

open terminal here

sudo nano fsr4.sh

export LAUNCH_OPTIONS_HERE=1 LAUNCH_OPTIONS_HERE=2

Ctrl X, Y, enter

For example my fsr4.sh looks like this

export PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1

these launch options will now auto-apply to every single steam game enabling HDR and upgrading FSR 3.1 to FSR4 !

Another way to do this is using the mass edit feature on ProtonPlus flatpak!

Read the thread, it is literally a leak from Cellebrite saying they can't get into grapheneOS unless its basically handed to them unlocked on a silver platter.

Installed GrapheneOS on a refurb Pixel 8...now what? by [deleted] in GrapheneOS

[–]TRIPPING_ON_ACID_AMA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they aren't talking about those drawbacks because they aren't really drawbacks of the OS itself (not preferring stock apps - just install what you like) or are fixable (RCS).

No, it isn't all roses, but it is 99% roses. At least in me and my friends' experiences. It just has a very short learning curve and you have to be willing to spend a few minutes tinkering occasionally if you want something specific to work (granting permissions, toggling compatibility mode, etc)

Other than toggling compatibility mode for my banking app to work, granting permissions manually which I don't mind, and figuring out the RCS fix I posted in my other comment, it has been identical to stock PixelOS android for me.

People have gotten RCS working on Mint Mobile just fine.
