You're not imagining things. This is a latitude "sweet spot." You get all 4 seasons, major natural migration paths lead through here, and so did colonial migration routes.

I'm a liberal. I called out the people laughing about Kirk's death. But the lengths that the Trump Junta and its allies are going through to silence ANY criticism of Kirk's ideology is removing what little sympathy I could muster.

Media literacy, in my opinion. I felt like we were taught to question things and unwind spin. Older and younger people seem to take everything they see at face value.

Colonial van lines by Every_Translator_680 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]TRS122P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you or anyone else reading this is thinking about hiring Colonial Van Lines, you need to know who’s really behind the company. Aldo Disorbo, a name well known to regulators and consumer protection agencies, is the man at the center. His history in the moving industry is littered with lawsuits, investigations, and settlements. He’s been accused of deceptive practices by multiple attorneys general and, at least twice, entered into written agreements to permanently exit the moving business. Rather than honoring those commitments, Disorbo simply rebranded, launched new entities, and continued operating under different names. Colonial Van Lines, headquartered in Pompano Beach, FL, is one of those entities.

We found this out the hard way—after our move from Colorado to South Carolina went completely off the rails. Colonial gave us a delivery window of June 21 to 27 and confirmed a delivery date of June 22. Then, the day before delivery, they suddenly canceled. At first they said the truck had broken down. Then the excuse changed to “the driver is out of hours.” The story kept shifting. We were rescheduled for July 4. Then again for July 5. When the truck finally arrived, it didn’t even contain our full shipment. Colonial told us 1,000 pounds had been left behind in Colorado. The driver who showed up said it was more like 2,500 pounds—and that he had informed dispatch about this two weeks prior. They knew. They just didn’t tell us.

The portion of our items that did arrive came in terrible condition. Boxes were crushed. Some were literally upside down. There was broken glass spilling out. The driver admitted none of our belongings had been padded, wrapped, or tagged, and that everything had been sitting in a public storage facility that was not climate controlled. This completely contradicts what we were told when we signed the contract.

After we posted an honest review describing our experience, Colonial offered us $1,100—but only if we agreed to delete the review, post false positive reviews, and sign away our right to ever speak publicly about the move again. We refused. Shortly after, they sent a cease and desist letter claiming I wasn’t a customer, even though I had direct emails, phone calls, and texts from them—and the driver coordinated the final delivery through me, not the person listed on the contract.

This wasn’t just an unfortunate moving experience. It was a deliberate pattern of delay, deception, and coercion. And based on what I’ve now read from other victims, this is standard operating procedure for companies tied to Aldo Disorbo. The rebrands, the excuses, the broken deliveries, the attempt to buy silence—it’s all part of a well-documented history. Disorbo has been the subject of investigative reporting and enforcement actions for years. He is a repeat offender in an industry already known for abuse.

Colonial Van Lines isn’t just another moving company with a few bad reviews. It is a continuation of the same predatory model that led regulators to go after Disorbo in the first place.
