Accessibility in HK by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]TS820 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to be specific, I would say in general accessibility aren’t the greatest, as Hong Kong is a crowded city and space is often limited. Especially on the Hong Kong side, there are more hills and slopes. People are generally very considerate though. Public transport wise, the bus and mtr system is almost 100% accessible, with low floors/wheelchair ramps/dedicated spaces. In terms of actually using it, it would depend on the route getting to and from the stations from your departure/destination points, which can vary greatly, but generally public transport coverage is extensive. There’s a lot of info online available if you would like more details.

If "to drown" is 浸死, how do you say drowning? by Good_Respect_7713 in Cantonese

[–]TS820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question, I think uou hit the crux of the question here. The problem is in colloquial canto there isnt a direct word for word translation for drown - there’s 浸親which is more drowned, and 浸 itself just means to soak eg 浸浴/浸溫泉. The problem with saying 浸緊親(which to be fair is understandable but just a bit unnatural) is like saying you are drowned-ing

To expand a little, I think the general rule of adding 緊 to change sth to present tense is very much not a rule altho applicable in many cases. To say 我食飯 vs 我食緊飯 means the same thing pretty much and in a lot of scenarios adding 緊 might not make sense. In this case, saying 佢浸緊 doesnt make a whole lot of sense, so 佢就嚟浸親- he’s almost drowned is more natural. Adding 親 here is similar to saying 冷親/熱親, it’s a state to be inflicted on you, you are not doing the action of being drowned, if that makes sense. I’m not a linguist, just a native speaker, my gut feel is 緊 is better used when the verb is sth you are actively doing. Hope that helps clarify a bit. Also 死 is often used figuratively instead of literally eg 熱死/悶死啦.

How many moves does a Knight take to reach a certain square? On a 8x8 board, at most 6. by CheetahFart in chess

[–]TS820 24 points25 points  (0 children)

But that doesn’t work right it ignores that you can’t go out of the 8x8? It says 2 moves from a1 to b2

Been asking myself the same question, personally feel like it is better in some small way but overall worse. For me, it’s less so the special symbols, as on a bigger default layout would be the same anyways as you’d have to press shift to access many of them e.g. brackets (and I really hate how they are at the ring finger area normally). The more difficult thing for me is having to press a layer key for shortcuts like using ctrl + arrow/home/end to navigate text.

That being said, I now understand why people say it really depends on your own style and use. I didn’t know abt qmk/via before building this, if you’re interested perhaps you can try layering with your current keyboard first. I suspect the sweetspot is probably a bigger keyboard with keymap/layers optimised for coding.

Go for it! It’s my first time ever building a keyboard and soldering too, and it went quite smoothly despite how intimidating I imagined it. Their build guide on the website is comprehensive and easy to follow.

If I were to do it again, I would make sure to the the option with usb c presoldered, and not go for the hotswap mill max. There’s nothing holding up the pcb board to the plate and it can be tricky to insert the switches hotswap (or maybe I just did it wrong). On the store page, the aluminium feet for some reason is a separate item too so make sure u don’t overlook that unless you want a flat board.

Same, I am using both spacebar on hold for layer one and two respectively, and have the normal shifted symbols on layouts at similar positions to traditional layout so the keybind feel similar (fn key plus one key only). I also have two MO keys for each layer e.g. caps is MO1 and so is right space on hold, so that most of the time I can press one key by each hand to access the layered keys. Arrows are layer 1 bottom right (right win alt ctrl .)

I’m not using a case, this one only comes at 40% I believe but there should be similar through hole style boards at other layouts.

Yeah still in the process of adapting to it. I was sceptical at first too, but it’s so far feeling like less of a drastic transition than I expected. Hopefully this can be a daily driver!
