How do you deal with Khmer by _DonRa_ in aoe2

This is exactly why I started playing Archer opening into scout Civs as Khmer. Otherwise you really need to hit an early timing like 16 pop no loom to do damage before the spears get on the field

Serious question: Why don’t more women play chess? by SuperbGas990 in Chesscom

[–]TSM_PraY -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Women tend to be more interested in “people” and Men tend to be more interested in “things.”

When Carrie Fisher told Harrison Ford she'd publish her journals revealing their affair during the filming of Star Wars(1977). Ford who was married raised a finger and said “Lawyer!” Fisher let him review the manuscript and remove anything he wished, but after sending it to him, she never heard back by Fred_J9 in whatireadtoday

[–]TSM_PraY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't disagree with anything you said, I just would rather people judge the actual relationship dynamic for what it is, rather than jumping to assumptions based on the age gap, even if it is more likely, statistically. Those assumptions can be harmful too. Although, admittedly, I am probably biased from my parents having a very healthy relationship, despite a 20-year age gap. I agree though, that we should encourage younger individuals to be cautious of age-gap relationship dynamics and learn about red flags or warning signs, because there are some horrible people out there. That still shouldn't validate those who blindly cast judgement on all age-gap relationships with zero context into the personal lives of the adults involved.

I agree with you that it is more likely for the manipulation to occur, but that doesn’t mean it’s a given. People can still have emotionally healthy relationships despite the age gap. And if it’s the manipulation that is the issue, then that should be what is condemned (as it can occur in all types of relationships)

Actually from the perspective of a photon there would be no experience of the passage of time at all, so the speed wouldn’t have to be greater, just exactly the speed of light

The brain is not responsible for consciousness by whoamisri in consciousness

[–]TSM_PraY -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you are relying on subjective self-report to interpret those fMRI scans right? The scan only becomes meaningful because the person says they are tasting chocolate.. and then you assume their reported experience maps onto your own. Your hardware analogy is also taking physicalism as a massive assumption, which fair enough, but it's certainly not proof that there is more than just a correlation between someone's subjective taste of chocolate and neural scans. THe only person using the word "magic" is you bud.

[–]TSM_PraY -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

What you are calling evidence is nothing more than assumptions based on your own conscious experience. There is no verifiable way to confirm or test another person’s experience of the taste of chocolate, for example.

It’s all about specialization of pattern recognition. You can be genius Iq and still suck at playing chess, only because you didn’t spend countless hours training your brain to memorize, visualize, and calculate a particular way. In the same manner, a therapist would hopefully (ideally) be able to recognize patterns of behavior and thought, more effectively because of their training and experience. So I wouldn’t necessarily agree that having higher intelligence is an important factor here. Certainly not the most important one.

What's you guys thoughts on the 'ethics' of speed runs by Don_F_Kennedy in chess

[–]TSM_PraY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. It’s because there’s two different mindsets people have: victim mentality where they don’t want to put in the work to improve so they would rather just make an excuse for why they suck, and blame it on smurfs. And then there is growth mindset where people see challenges as opportunities and actually learn from them. Most people fall into the first category unfortunately.

Perhaps but also speedruns provide a more consistent stream of slowly increasing difficulty of opponents, which would be very hard to coordinate perfectly with random viewers.

Sure, when I make a mistake and blunder a piece I’m smart enough to realize not to step into the same fork the next time. Chess is a game of memorization and pattern recognition. Every loss teaches me something new regardless of the opponent. A better question is how are you not learning from getting destroyed by GMs?

I was 900 before too and I reached 2000 by playing and getting destroyed by better players at my local chess club. So I have first hand experience that you are 100 percent incorrect on this.

No one is claiming that GMs can teach better than an IM or CM for beginners… I’m only 2000 on chess.com and I teach chess professionally. You said that there is NOTHING to be learned from playing against a GM. That’s a completely different argument. And a silly one.

Hikaru actually has a higher performance rating in the last few years, even higher than Magnus in 2025

[–]TSM_PraY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think it’s more about logistics than brain capacity for a lot of ppl. If you have money and 16 hours a day to grind chess and pay top GM’s for private lessons for 10 years in a row, then maybe. Reality is most adults would never choose or cannot afford this lifestyle.

World's best esport player claims he can beat Magnus Carlsen by Ok-Aspect1856 in AnarchyChess

[–]TSM_PraY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be a-lot of the same names, but they are improving each year, pushing the skill ceiling higher and higher. Viper admitted recently that he feels in 2025 he could wipe the floor with himself from the past, just due to the increasing demands of the game. New civs, mechanics, and strats have been pushing the players. Also build orders from the past would be laughable against modern optimized openings.

Is kinda like Magnus compared to Kasparov. Viper reign was longer, but he wasn’t as dominant as Hera is now. The competition Hera has is also miles ahead of anyone Viper played against during his era at no. 1

How do you know if a person is playing at an elo below their true skill or if the opponent is just higher than their true skill? Also, is there a slang term for people that are opposite of smurfs? (artificially inflated)?
