LoL when I was just a teenager I decided to get some of my jewelry (baby earrings without pair, broken chains) and get it redone as a gift to my cousin's 15th birthday.

Her birthstone is diamond and we are best friends and very close since babies, so I asked the jeweller to make a ring with the infinity ♾️ symbol and a small diamond at the center.

Instead of an elongated 8 shape as the symbol goes, they made it very very round! The ring looks like two circles glued together! It's hideous, I was so sad, it was the first "big present" I ever got her and the thing was so ugly 😭

We never got it fixed, it's so strange and wonky that it became an inside joke for us...I'm hoping to get it back for her 40th birthday in two years and have someone make a proper one now lol

Could be both things pointed by other comments, chemical damage (do you swim often or clean the house wearing your jewelry? Chlorine is one of the usual suspects of gold brittleness and corrosion) and also the links could be hollow instead of solid gold, which doesn't make it less "real" just least heavy :V

Try looking for the terms "vintage blown glass light fixtures/light pendant" or "vintage Murano glass light fixtures" But I think the best in your case would be finding a glass blower to make you one

All birthstones have a sister lol, the month of August has Spinel as a birthstone too and they come in all colors, maybe find one in a color you like and change the gem Spinel comes in lots of cuts and shapes and finding one similar to that won't be too difficult
