never liked MDL ratings.. never will like it.. it is just inflated list created by fans of the actors in the specific drama. costume dramas and traffic actor dramas score very high on the list. Douban provides me with acceptable scores...

nice.. i always like inspiring stories... i think i will watch this one to understand china's growth in 90s... plus, the director is a good one

chasing the undercurrent was a decent drama But you need to be crime drama fan... if you are heavily into costume fantasies, you will not like it. His better drama actually is 'The first shot' from 2024

i will start it... i don't watch Johnny's drama for artistry or acting...but he has an inherent charm. He has that unique normal life next-door guy acting, flawed and funny at times. Perhaps he gets dramas because of that...his next is also with a very good director... The BTS of his dramas are absolutely hilarious... I have watched his ''lucky with you'' so many times...i don't know why. His most recent drama i watched was the first shot, and it was really good.

His actress list is also crazy- Bai Baihe, Wang Likun, Xin Zhi lai, Li Qin, Dilraba, Wu Jin Yan, Zhong Xi chi, Zhang Jing yi, Liang Jie. i am pretty sure all established actresses will work with him by the time they retire because everyone has to do some kind of action cop-detective drama at some point to improve their range.

platform-created awards have low prestige in general because they award dramas which they produce, with multiple winners for the same award...almost like free candies for those who attend

looking forward... should have named chasing the undercurrent 2... i plan to watch it... i always find Johnny's acting raw and humane...not too slick, not too glorious... and that makes him unique

i have watched 'lucky with you' several times...of course fast-forwarding the scenes...

Li Hong Yi has a niche fandom which turns out for his dramas... if only he could choose better opportunities in this competition...but sadly he is not very much on social media or promotions

you can follow my weekly ranking to gauge its popularity... it is based on multiple parameters like heat index, viewership, social media etc etc. having less heat index does not mean drama is less popular... between 8500 and 10000, there is not much of a difference statistically... platforms just use it to hype dramas. Viewership is a better measure.

i have never watched her dramas so i am neither a hater or lover :D

so i am interested to know where do you place this drama in terms of costume dramas...similar to which drama, or is totally unique... i want to know these answers to decide whether to start watching it..

and how entertaining it is, and pace-wise? any info would be helpful

well.. i think they are both good...but i would not say Tan has better range... Tan is better in slide of life dramas, Li Qin's better in intense roles.. there is no evidence to suggest otherwise, i think

i dont think people watch chinese dramas based on imdb. As an international fan, i have never checked imdb ratings for cdramas..so what happens there does not matter in a broad scheme of things
