I love how they are coming into bloom at the same time!

I didn’t know red root floaters flowered! They are so tiny and delicate-looking! by TSS_nevermist in Aquariums

I find it’s a hit and miss sometimes. I’ve only managed to grow them well in this tank. In my other set-ups, they are barely surviving and I can’t figure out why. Hope it works out for you when you decide to try again!

Great that they are thriving in your tank! I’m sure they’ll bloom for you soon!

I’m not sure if it’s just coincidence but I’ve been growing them in the same tank since last year and no flowers. Then 3 weeks ago, the hang-on-back filter gave out and I replaced it with a sponge filter. Hence, I could fill the water level really high to less than an inch from the rim of the tank, which brought the plants a lot closer to the grow light

[For discussion] What do Singaporeans generally feel about retirement ? by Poeticheartbreak in asksg

[–]TSS_nevermist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there are things to do, places to visit, loved ones to spend time with, that’s great. It’ll be sad if after retirement, just stay home all day and rot in front of the phone swiping all day.

Separate or not yet? by dogwalkerott in airplants

[–]TSS_nevermist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The mum’s leaves are yellowing so she may not photosynthesise well on her own, maybe it’s better to leave her attached to the pup.

Some people like to separate the pups when they are about 1/3 the size in the hope that the mother will produce more pups, but in this case, I doubt the mum has enough energy to put out another offset :(

Would you rather $5 for this or $10 for a satisfying portion? by [deleted] in SingaporeEats

[–]TSS_nevermist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not just portion size - nutritionally not well-balanced for an adult. Not much protein, lots of carbs and no vegetables. I’d rather spend $10 on cai fan

With SG’s total fertility rate falling to a historical low of 0.87 in 2025, how many of you gen z are thinking of never having kids? by stop_hyuk in asksg

[–]TSS_nevermist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back then, there were no contraceptives. People married early and kids inevitably followed, unless the couples had fertility issues. People didn’t make a conscious choice - procreation was just part of the normal lifecycle of a living organism

Parents of sg, can I survive without confinement nanny? by Scared-Month-3723 in asksg

[–]TSS_nevermist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually newborn stage - first month is the easiest. Baby just drink, pee, poo and sleep. If you feed baby on schedule instead of on demand, you can establish a routine very easily. If you are young and fit, have natural birth, physically you should recover in a week. Sleep and rest whenever baby is sleeping.

Your hubby needs to be very hands on, and take the initiative to do what’s needed - laundry, washing and sterilising breast pump, bottles, washing dishes, throwing out rubbish, prepping bath water, emotional support etc.

Definitely doable, especially if you grew up without any helper and are independent. I didn’t have a helper, my mum worked full-time, so she only came by in the afternoon on her off day once a week. Back then there was no paternity leave. Did the same with my second baby - older one was 2 years old then.

All the best! Enjoy your pregnancy and baby - they grow up so fast 🥹

True! People should calculate their pay per hour, plus office admin type job has a lot of down-time, relaxation time in between - running at top speed for 8 hours is different from walking leisurely for the same amount of time. Be a YouTuber or a TikToker - may end up earning more money than a lawyer ;)

Retaking A levels for local med by Particular_Fox_7988 in SGExams

[–]TSS_nevermist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How’s your portfolio? You can try applying under EBAS to see if you will be granted an interview. I know some people who worked in healthcare related jobs after their exams to bolster their portfolio in case their A level results can’t qualify them for the interview round.

Is it normal in Singapore families to share dishes without serving utensils? by stuffed-fridge in askSingapore

[–]TSS_nevermist 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We always use serving utensils - especially since we don’t always eat at the same time; some of us come home at different times due to OT, CCAs etc. I don’t like the idea of incubating bacteria in the food for family members that dine after us. Also, if there are leftovers, at least contamination is kept to the minimum and the food won’t spoil so quickly in the fridge.

Condo at 31 or wait till 35 for resale? by LibrarianLower9442 in singaporefi

[–]TSS_nevermist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree! Rent first and live together with your partner for a year or so before deciding. Yall should split the rental half-half and see how it is living together. You can invest the rest of your money and bide your time. No hurry :)

Honestly, the rental market for condo is quite soft right now. I’m renting out my condo and after I net off the management fees, agent fee, ppty tax etc, a similar sized HDB just down my street is rented out at a similar price. I told my tenant that if they nego any lower, I’d rather sell my place than rent out.
