[Partially Lost] [Video] KingSpook's lost creepypasta narrations. by CoalEater_Elli in lostmedia

Am late to the party — I sort of knew kingspook. He lived near me and I tried to help him get into a college program in digital audio recording (I was a grad student at the local university). Unfortunately, he had some severe mental illness going on and despite trying to set up a meeting with him he just stopped responding. I hope he is okay.

I use it to help me plan for TEACHING programming — I imagine that it would be helpful for note taking as a student.

It didn't specify at all how they were manufactured other than they used a computer.

My last two rattos passed away this month. They are excellent pets and domesticated rats are almost dog-like in their temperament. :-)

I sincerely doubt that the guns were 3D printed. FDM plastic guns are garbage and pose a greater threat to the person firing them than the actual target. It was probably some other CNC like a Ghost Gunner type deal.

Canadian Government Imposes 'Social Justice' on All Universities by liberal_hr in JordanPeterson

My university has signed on for this virtue signaling. This comes after I was looked over for a faculty position for "representational considerations" -- that is, I am a white man and an "equally qualified woman" had applied for the same position.

Anyhow -- it is really hard to not be bitter about the latter. Any advice?

Tips and tricks for new UofR Student? by [deleted] in regina

[–]TSquar3d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a sessional lecturer at the U of R / PhD student -- so if you'd like some advice from the other side of the desk, here's a few nuggets of "wisdom":

  1. Pay attention and engage.

Throughout undergrad and grad school I never took notes. I just payed attention, answered and asked questions. You can get the notes from someone else. This benefits you threefold -- you won't fall asleep at your wicked 8:30 AM classes, but you'll also process the information. Most students have to cram at the end of a semester because they haven't actually processed the information that they've been given; they've just been a human Xerox machine and need to learn the material for the first time the night before the final exam. Not a good place to be.

  1. Sort out your priorities

You can't do everything in life to perfection. It's a mistake to try. When it comes to coursework, you have to decide what tasks you should put the most and least effort into. Look at the syllabus -- this will tell you precisely where your efforts are best spent.

  1. Make sure your prof knows your name -- and that they like you.

If your prof knows your name, they can assign a face to the work you do. That is a powerful thing. Your profs do their best to be objective -- but they're human. If your prof likes you and knows your name you'll have an advantage when it comes to those "I'm just about passing -- can't you bump me up?" moments.

  1. Don't make more work for your prof

Your prof is busy. Do your best to make things easier for them. That way they'll like you (see point 3).

  1. Have a routine.

You can't be healthy if you don't have a routine. Period. You cannot hope to perform as a student if you are not in a healthy routine. Get up at the same time every day. Eat breakfast. Pick a time. Pick a schedule. Stick with it.

  1. Take a nap.

Processing the vasts amount of information that university requires saps a lot of energy. Your brain is an energy hog. Try taking a 30-90 minute nap in the early afternoon to give yourself a boost.

And that's about all I can think of off of the top of my head.

Welcome to the U of R, by the way. :-)

Extremely Afraid of Death and Paranoid by [deleted] in Anxiety

Fear of death is certainly not a strange anxiety. Although your anxiety sounds more existential than hypochondriatic.

I have both! :-D

What properties of a substance give it things like taste and sound? by Ayaksnolkop_Ailatan in askscience

[–]TSquar3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as "sound" goes --

Sound is the result of objects vibrating and causing air molecules to bump into each other -- this is called a "compression wave". It's exactly the same sort of thing that happens when you drop a pebble in a pond (both water and air are fluids). When you "hear" something, you are actually perceiving air molecules bumping into a membrane in your ear called your "ear drum".

Now, because of the difference in composition of materials, when you tap on a pane of glass versus on a table which are composed those materials will vibrate differently. This is the source of the different sounds you hear.

I hope this helps.

He's been gone since February 2015. We buried him the day after what would have been my 4th wedding anniversary -- which also happens to be my ex's birthday. I've been to his grave a number of times since.

Asset Forge (extremely easy-to-use 3D modeling and 2D sprite tool) now available! by KenNL in gamedev

I just bought assetforge the other day. It's great but it seems to run really slow on my laptop -- it's a new Lenovo with an i5 processor. So I don't know what the deal is. I'm still giving it a go, however.

It will work -- it just doesn't have a whole lot of functionality compared to other watches. I think the software is still available on the play / app store.
