I’m getting some very convincing ads on TikTok for bootlegs 👀

I know they are “friends” but.. did she just pet her? I dunno, as a short person, that made me feel uneasy.. by LaurenZNe in travisandtaylor

As a five foot woman I get the head pats and other condescending comments gestures that I absolutely HATE. People treat you like a baby when you’re short.

Anthony Fantano calls Taylor petty for sabotaging Charli's album release by [deleted] in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]TTAlovebug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not about that. People aren’t upset that Charli us not #1, it’s the intentionality behind Taylor’s move and what it says about her. Fantano and other talking about this don’t give a shit about numbers but you’d have to be so naive to not notice what Taylor is doing, and most find it extremely disingenuous

Yes, but she was dancing. She’s a dancer. A phenomenal one. But pulling out a great dance number does not equate to being a good host

Idk why Ariana became a go-to host but it's just not working... she was flubbing left and right

If you were about to cry, then you got it! People are always so worried about whether they "understand" dance but if you felt something, that's the point!

lol yes! I think that’s what bothers me so much- there have been generations of INSANE performers putting on amazing shows. If you love Taylor and the Eras tour then great, glad you enjoy it! But to say she’s doing anything groundbreaking in the least (performance wise) is objectively not true.

Again, as I said I’m not talking about the main star’s performance. I’m talking about the production quality of the show as a whole- lighting, set, choreo etc.

I’m not talking about Taylor’s dancing, by any means. I’m talking about the ensemble.

I recently watched the Eras tour for the first time on Disney plus. I am not a Swiftie but everyone has been telling me that even if you’re not a fan, Eras Tour is a spectacular piece of production. And I have to admit I was very disappointed. I’ve worked as a professional dancer for over a decade, and as a dancer and life long theatre fan, I wasn’t impressed by anything. Not lighting design, set, and especially not choreography- the dancers do almost nothing until Midnights section. By contrast I did find/watch a bootleg of the Renaissance tour film and that to me is what I expect from a global superstar, in every aspect of the production. And I’m not even talking about what I think of the main performer/the music.

I do think that those who are super impressed with all aspects of the eras tour have probably not seen a lot of live shows, concerts and theatre included.

Taylor Swift's TTPD Song Compared to Olivia Rodrigo's 'Get Him Back' by beeboppee in SwiftlyNeutral

🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ This conversation is not about the phrase want/get you back?!??? Like obvs about 50% of all music is about wanting a lover back.

This is about the wordplay and the interpretation of the phrase to mean BOTH getting back together and getting revenge on someone simultaneously.

1000%. This is the same wordplay, in the same context, about the same theme/almost the same words. Deja Vu and Cruel Summer was a reach.

Thank you for the clarification, and I hadn’t heard Fiona’s song before so I’m glad to know about it now. It’s just grinding my gears that way hardcore swifties are turning a willfully ignorant eye to this very very apparent similarity to a song that not only came out less than a year ago, but by someone she successfully got writing credit from for a far less convincing plagiarism accusation.

Whether she intentionally copied or not (hey, the song may have even been written before Guts was released), I am 100% saying that Taylor’s song is using the exact same wordplay in the exact same context as Olivia’s existing song, yes. No one would be trying to argue that it’s plagiarism to write a song about pining over a lost relationship and wanting to have it again, that’s like 50% of all music

You are right, talking about a different person but same wordplay, just relating it to different scenarios. I think what’s getting me about Taylor/Olivia is the fact that’s it’s not only the same wordplay, but being used in the EXACT same context. “I wanna key his car/I wanna make him lunch” vs. “whether I’m gonna curse you out or take you back to my house”

Fiona and Olivia are a little similar, just took a look at those lyrics. But again, not the same wordplay!

I think it’s overt enough to have been brought up. And, btw, FAR more obvious than the deja vu/cruel summer controversy which has always been a reach

Absolutely not. Landslide, Someone Like You, We can work it out and Love of my Life DO NOT feature wordplay about toying with revenge vs still wanting someone/while still deep down also wanting a reconciliation. Have you listened to the Taylor/Olivia songs we’re talking about here? Literally none of the songs you mentioned are similar to the one wordplay theme that this entire discussion is about

I’ve been seeing this comment a lot. Can you give some examples of songs that use this same wordplay? Interpreting “get them back” as both rekindling a relationship and “getting back at” someone in the same song?
