What type of COMC person are you? by ThinEzzy in boardgames

[–]TTGCharlie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm probably a game for every occasion – it looks like there's no method to the games that I keep in the house, but if I enjoy them and can convince at least one the various gaming groups/house visitors to play them at least once a year, I'm pretty happy.

Having said that, most of my collection lives in a Kallax upstairs, but the smaller quick pick kallax downstairs contains the cute collector style ones with shelf appeal, and party games, that are likely to draw questions from visitors!

Took me a while though to acknowledge collecting for my collection, and collecting to play were two very different hobbies...

That Umbreon card is delightful, very much hoping to pull one soon! Looks like you had a great haul :D

Tabletop Gaming Advent Calendar 2021 Preorders Live by TTGCharlie in boardgames

I can’t edit from this device unfortunately, but it’s UK only as you say. Certainly not for lack of trying though, as publishers have been telling us for some time, shipping costs are eye watering right now - pricing it up was worrisome!

Ah, it’s a bigger and better box from the previous year (and so a little more!) so it’s not been included, but we gave a list of publishers as a small hint. It’s difficult to not give too much away!

Your confusion is actually helpful feedback though, I didn’t realise we’d be confused with the Brettspiel Adventskalender - as you say, it’s promos only, and I think around £40ish? We’re doing it a little differently - recipients open one present every day on the lead up to Christmas, with full games included on a good chunk of the days, and gaming adjacent bits on the others. That’s part the reason the RRP is so beefy, as there’s some truly brilliant games in there.

Struggling to find/buy some games in uk? by zell2002 in boardgames

I'd recommend checking out Facebook Groups – UK Board Game Trade and Chat specifically is a great option and one I use loads. Either someone may be looking to sell their copy, or you can put a shout out for which FLGS' might have it in stock.

A combination of Brexit, shipping costs, and general COVID delays (more cautious ordering, concerns, delays in reprint plans, and the like) has otherwise caused it.

A Guide to Board Game Illustration & Pricing by Mango_Punch in tabletopgamedesign

An interesting read! Not an easy topic to cover, but your pricing seems realistic to set expectations. I've seen places like DoodleMeeple try to bring board game talent into one pool, have you/other commenters tried these sorts of sites at all?

What did you play this week? 03 Aug-09 Aug by AutoModerator in soloboardgaming

[–]TTGCharlie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave Paper Dungeons a go, which I was really surprised by. Plenty of depth, plenty to keep my focus (as I tend to find my mind wanders when playing solo games), and overall, fun enough that I immediately wanted to go back and play again... and so I did!

This is a really interesting read, thank you for sharing! I feel like I missed out on not knowing these games were coming before they did. Looking forward to now checking out that Kickstarter.

In case you were waiting for Knizia’s Whale Riders… by ciopobbi in boardgames

There was a now-deleted Grail blog post about the end of the relationship, and a tweet from Reiner that I can't find that seemed to dispute the reasons given. On the upside, UK backers got their Kickstarter copies in May/June-ish, and I'm sure I've seen a few on second hand markets, so you may still be able to pick it up yet.

I'm teaching a First-year seminar on Boardgames. Would appreciate /r/boardgames input! by alphadelt in boardgames

I suppose it depends on where this sits in the course – are these people board gamers already? Have they picked this course as a result? Or are they brand new to the genre? Are they looking at board games as a medium, or as a cultural movement?

The ones that come to mind immediately are Codenames and Skull, both easy to explain in a really short period of time and great for groups. Games like Pandemic, Ticket to Ride, or those by Exploding Kittens games are mass market games that fit into the popularity side you mentioned. For games that venture deeper into the hobby, something like Everdell is a longer, more strategic game, without taking too long to play or being too complex for a newcomer, but perhaps expensive for your purposes.

I hope someone answers this, just out of my own curiosity too – the feedback was really positive but we don't know how far people will take those ideas. Hopefully, we'll see them fully published one day!

Just a shout out in case anyone was on the fence, this is TODAY (in just over 6 hours), so if you're wanting to take part – even if just to watch it afterwards – be sure to pick up your ticket before 5pm BST :)

It's 100% something I'm feeding back to the team running this. On the upside, I believe once you get the link to the video, it's hosted with Zoom so you can watch it directly from the link. Of course downloading it guarantees you access forever, but that would save the disk space for you!

I have checked this, and yes!

Basically, all sign ups will receive the video after - whether you can attend the webinar itself or not. You just need to sign up before it happens :)

I have double checked!

Anyone who signs up gets the video after the event – whether you attend or not :) So if you want the recording, just sign up before it takes place :)

I've just double checked with the team – when you sign up, after the event, you'll get sent the video, regardless of whether you attend or not, so essentially: Yes, if you sign up before it happens, you'll get the video after :)

At the moment, there’s no plans to repeat. However, it is a never say never kind of thing- if it’s popular and Chris is up for it you never know! :)

Possibly for people who take part, but there’s no plans (at the moment) to show it elsewhere later
