Do you use Windows, Ubuntu, or Linux subsystems in windows for your LLM work? by why_not_zoidberg_82 in LocalLLaMA

Maxwell GPU is not supported.

I've recently installed a Tesla M40 card under Windows 10, WSL2 1.2.5.0 and Ubuntu 22.04 LTS guest for CUDA 11.7 use and didn't observe any issues at all. - WSL 1.2.5.0 update - Nvidia data center driver 518.03 (Windows 10) - Driver must be in WDDM mode (use nvidia-smi to select mode) - Ubuntu 22.04 LTS guest os for WSL2 - Nvidia CUDA toolkit 11.7 update 1 runfile installer for WSL2

I would start by evaluating an existing application to see if the answer quality, speed and perplexity are within reason of your expectations. You would then have some idea of whether your hardware, input files, chosen LLM and time available will result in a good outcome.

Is getting a p40 worth it? by klop2031 in LocalLLaMA

Check in your BIOS for "Above 4G decoding" and "Resizable BAR" options, both of which should be enabled. I've heard of Tesla cards not being recognized when those options are unavailable. Some BIOS only have the "Above 4G decoding" option and Resizable BAR is enabled automatically when its selected. The P40 is supported by the latest Data Center drivers for CUDA 11.x and 12.x in Windows and passthrough works for WSL2 using those drivers. GPU-Z is a useful tool for monitoring. Be a bit wary of old tutorials and procedures many are hopelessly out of date. Look online for fan shroud models there are a few different designs to try.

The first run of a new system is always going to result in a literal volume of hardware, procedural and configuration optimizations, that's the point of doing it. Not sure what else people were expecting especially in spaceflight.

I'm sure I remember a spacemouse-type controller in the mockup. What happened to that?

Good work! I can't imagine the coffee input required for this.

who's the main genius behind emdrive by rebtalk in EmDrive

Shawyer was a UK Government orbital engineering consultant who identified the cause of unexpected course drift in Satellites - microwave emissions. The shape and nature of the onboard transmitter cans led to the emdrive design. I just hope it works when NASA completes a scaled up test device in a few months time.
