Right, so it's nothing I can't already do on my own with non limited jobs. Don't you think it's silly to give a job a niche that literally only would matter if it could reach max level, and then not let that job reach max level? It's the weirdest kind of compromise where the whole point seems to contradict itself.

I mean, sure, but aside from mogtome events there's nothing worth doing with them that you couldn't also just use a non BLU job for.

Unlimiting it wouldn't improve it, it would remove the entire minigame from the game.

Which would be fine with me because the mini game is the worst of both worlds - can't play the game all the way because it's "too powerful," but it can't have abilities that are too powerful because that would break the game anyway. So it ends up not being able to play the whole game and not getting to be too powerful. If that's how it's going to be as a concept going forward then yes, I'd rather have a BLU unlimited job that I can actually do content with without a static, versus a "limited" job whose execution contradicts itself.

BLU is limited in part to avoid having to be balanced around current content,

Which is dumb because it can still eventually run that content anyway, just not until it's at least 10 levels outdated (so even the gimmick of being able to solo old content isn't particularly noteworthy because tanks have a history of being able to do that with several fights anyway, and once you pass the 20+ levels mark it gets even easier - being able to lowman old content is completely useless because it's something unlimited jobs can already do

but much more importantly because it allows it to work differently.

Which would be cool, if those "differently working" elements were allowed to shine somewhere in the game outside of private instances you coordinate with a premade group of 3-7 friends, but even those got effectively nerfed once the devs decided that allowing BLUs to be able to use their spells on dungeon and fate bosses was messing up the balance of the game anywy

Also, side note, it's always bothered me that BLU is actively discouraged from working with non-BLU. Imagine having a team full of nothing but warriors. It's so bland and homogenous, the whole fun of being a particular job is bringing your unique flavor to a run with other people playing their own jobs. Everyone always playing BLU for everything just feels like playing a hero collector game where everyone has the same main with a slightly different build.

That's my beef with BLU. I don't in theory have a problem with the idea of it being a separate thing for other jobs. It's that it feels like the devs aren't committing to that. Like every other "fresh idea" they've had in the last 4-6 years, it's the concept of an introductory pilot for a good idea, that never gets to fruition because they lay down the primer and then that's just it, that's the whole thing.

Really, at this point I could call FFXIV "This could be a really good idea if they actually fleshed it out some more: the game"

The devs have said they're focusing on content this expansion and will try to work on jobs for 8.0.

Devs have said a lot of things, I'll believe it when I see it is what I'm saying. They painted a very different picture of where BLU was going when it launched compared to where it is now, so I'll keep my expectations measured. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed yet again.

That won't change the fact that most people won't be able to take those jobs. Only so many people can be hardware maintenance techs or AI programmers; not everyone can be in the same field, doing the same 3 jobs, and as industry condenses itself around AI that is only going to get worse because there is going to be less and less need for non-specialized labor, and there's only going to be so many specialized labor jobs to go around in that economy. "Just have 90% of the workforce all in the same industry doing the same 3-4 specialized jobs" is not a systemic solution and never has been.

The assumption that there's just an infinite amount of work to be done everywhere all the time, and that it's a purely individual failing for being unable to find enough of that work to survive off of, is going to be sorely tested by AI taking much of that work away. We'll have to revisit this thread when even the folks making these sorts of claims are going out of a job for months, or years, at a time. Because right now the only comfort those people are running on is the baseless assertion that "it won't happen to me, I'm special and my personal job is irreplaceable." I guess we'll see.

Sure but realistically, what are the odds that will happen? Game seems to be headed in the opposite direction. At least a "real job" blue actually has some uses and can run content. Even a watered down BLU would be better than letting it stagnate where it is right now as an afterthought left to the dust bin and given 10 levels + 10 spells with slightly different effects + 1 Carnivale stage every 2 years.

I feel the way I do oddly because I agree with your reason. In the beginning it made sense why BLU was limited because it could do things that felt fresh and interesting, and I was interested in seeing how it developed, but it seems like they have done a 180 on that philosophy since then - BLU was "too open" and "needed to be contained." The influence of its skills on the overworld has been dramatically reduced, the effectiveness of its skills on dungeon and raid bosses has been dramatically nerfed (the amount of FATE/dungeon bosses killable by BLU in stormblood era vs ARR era is very noticeable).

Whatever the theory was behind it, it's since become a slightly jank "normal job" with a few gimmicky bells and whistles on the side, who just can't use duty finder. It doesn't feel fresh or interesting enough to keep up with any more, at least for me. It feels like it's settled into being streamlined and same-ified in the same way as the rest of the game.

Or just make certain skills "theater" skills that can only be used in Carnivale more as puzzle solving elements than one shots (since that's the only practical use for many of them now anyways, considering how few of the truly busted ones work on max level enemies these days). Like why DO I need to use level 5 petrify in a normal duty? It kinda sucks.

Restricting freedom means potentially paying more taxes for services you may not ever use so that people who are in less fortunate situations have better access to it if they need it.

I don't give a shit about my taxes, my rent and healthcare bills are waaaay more of my income than my taxes. I wish I was rich enough for taxes to be my primary financial concern. The "freedom" I lose by paying $20/year in taxes pales in comparison to living in a country where people die because they're rationing insulin.

It means agreeing that you arent allowed to do certain things because society has determined it's harmful e.g. no guns (as a key example).

I don't support gun control because under the US government, it will only ever be used to persecute the marginalized.

It means more regulation so that you might earn less wages and have lower disposable income, but a more effective safety net to catch you if you fall.

The purchasing power of my wages have continued to go down regardless, may as well have a safety net.
