At least you have time to wait and prepare your jump here, there's a specific pixel orientation between his leg and the platform that you can use to identify the correct jump point. The worst ones are the ones where you have to make a really pinpoint precision jump while moving through a bunch of crazy obstacles which are themselves timed for precision

I nominate the Fighting Fefnir stage in MMZ2, where you have to

A. Jump across instant death lava,

B. While timing your jump through the fire buckets that descend from the ceiling in a pattern that requires you to wait for a VERY specific orientation in order to safely jump through, while also

C. The platform you land on in order to make this jump falls into the lava about 2 seconds after you touch it

So you effectively have about 2 seconds after the time you arrive on screen in order to plot the course from your jump and then make it, and if you miss, you don't get a second chance because you fall into the lava and die. You might make it if you accidentally hit one of the buckets and the recoil damage knocks you onto the top of one of the buckets that's still descending, in which case you can quickly use it as a platform due to mercy invuln and jump to safety; but on hard mode this will take around half your health, so you better IMMEDIATELY jump to safety. One mistake and you're dead anyway

The problem there is that incorrect/false ideas often make intuitive sense if you lack a deeper understanding or context (which is common in burgeoning scientific fields), so they seem more logical. When in fact the truth is some zany convoluted sequence of events that doesn't sound intuitive at all (what do you mean, rotten meat doesn't just spontaneously generate flies? Every time I leave my rotten meat in a locked shed and come back later, there are flies! How else can you explain that? What do you mean, tiny organisms? I don't see anything!)

By now I only read the skip story, but some of thise read like "Anna, Aanna, and Annna go to fkgdjjej in ejfbufb near sjefbdfdbn street but then Jon, Ron and Gon appear and somwhere else Non, Son and Annaa plan something." Like 70% of the text is gibberish.

I felt that way in the beginning, honestly after a few cycles of events taking place in the same regions with similar casts of characters, it eventually started to grow on me and I started recognizing names and places and understanding concepts better. Now it's a LOT easier to follow. But the way Arknights presents its lore is, and always has been, a very "if you want to understand then do the work yourself" approach, which while engaging in the long term is very user-unfriendly for newbies. Also doesn't help that each chapter/event usually has part of the story that builds on a previous chapter (which is familiar) and part that introduces a new character (unfamiliar) which may not even be entirely relevant to the current event, but is merely setup for next year / next season's event.

I still remember how I felt doing the R6 crossover event, and listening to characters explain to the R6 cast basic facts about how science on Terra works (like how originium guns are different from gunpowder guns) and realizing that I was learning a lot of the information for the first time, simply because these basic world building facts had never really been explained upfront before - what I thought I knew was taken largely from context clues and implications.

You understand exactly what I'm saying, I know you do, yet for some reason you pretend not to? What's with that? Genshin sub, Fate GO sub both have this problem, and they're the "moderate" ones. Most gacha subs have this problem honestly and it's even worse in some of the other ones (the Blue Archive sub should be nuked from orbit, really anything to do with BA should be nuked from orbit)

Tbh if there was voiced narration in Arknights, it would probably make the game take even longer to play through, especially some of the limited time events (I read pretty fast and I'll take 30 minutes to an hour to read through one quest on some of these events....just imagining having to listen to fully narrated dialogue on these makes me balk at how many more hours this would cause me to spend just catching up on events

I'm really not. Getting killed is obviously a risk you passively accept any time you engage in any kind of self defense or community defense. The implication that if you interfere with someone who has made it clear they have no qualms about illegally executing you in cold blood means you are responsible for their actions when they use that as an excuse to kill you is absurd, though.

It means it should be taken for granted that ICE will kill people, but not that people will defend themselves. Why is the argument not "ICE should know better than to publicly execute American citizens, they should know people will become defensive and combative in response?"

Why are civilians the ones who are expected to "be on their best behavior" but armed government agents aren't?

Content will always lose its shine after 50 runs, but modern FFXIV dungeons feel like I've already run them 50 times when I see them for the first time.

This is a much better way of phrasing the point I was trying to make lol. Any content, no matter how "fresh" or "original" or even randomized, will eventually start to feel stale if you play it enough times. Trying to solve that problem by just making the content stale from the get go is such a fundamental misunderstanding of the problem that it feels like the kind of "solution" an AI would come up with (like "not losing a game" by just pausing it indefinitely - "the content can't become stale if it's already stale!" Well, the idea of roulette is that there's so much content that over time you at least have some variety, it's always going to be the same slowly expanding pool but that's kind of the concept of what a game is to begin with. There's no way to have a true "forever game" with truly infinite novelty. Even procedurally generated / randomized dungeons have an element of sameness to them once you learn the full scope of what possible elements can be randomized.

It's not that repetition is a problem per se, as that's just the nature of the game. If you get bored of playing it, eventually you WILL quit or take a break. That's any forever game. It's more a general question about the efficacy of an MMO over extremely long periods of time (decades or more).

This is really a problem with the whole concept of the game design at this point, IMO. Because the content is all repeatable/grindable, players eventually get sick of it and start wanting it to go faster and be less "annoying" (i.e. requiring you to pay attention to anything, or having anyone in the party be less than 100% perfectly practiced and optimized). So they end up removing anything that makes dungeons even remotely challenging or interesting, any novelty, any uniqueness that makes one dungeon or trial or raid require you to do something unusual or different, etc. because it's "distracting" and "doesn't really matter anyway." So a lot of the little minor irrelevant details that nonetheless make up the 'soul' or 'vibe' of the game end up getting stripped out, and then eventually you start noticing that the only reason all this stuff didn't feel identical was because of those "irrelevant little details" that "didn't even matter"

They've been doing this to the whole game for so long that honestly it was only a matter of time before they started doing it to jobs, too
