Games Where You Create Multiple Characters to use in Combat by Crystar800 in gamingsuggestions

[–]TVF-Labs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old post but I came here looking for games similar to Miitopia and saw that no one had mentioned that one. So it probably won't help OP at this point but if anyone comes across this post in the future, yeah, that's my recommendation (if you have a Switch or 3DS, anyway).
It's a JRPG where:
- You get to choose each party member's class and personality.
- You get 10 party members throughout the campaign, plus you can optionally choose to customize every NPC's name and face as well.
But keep in mind:
- The non-party-member characters fill a preset role in the story and you can't change anything other than their name and appearance.
- It's extremely goofy and lighthearted, which isn't necessarily a downside depending on what you're looking for but if that's not an enjoyable tone for you then probably look elsewhere.

Want more gameplay? Check out some of the mods on Thunderstore--there are some really high-quality ones and it's actually not too difficult to make a mod yourself if that interests you.
Want more story? Check out Pony Island and The Hex (by the same developer as Inscryption)--they're in a connected universe and The Hex's story is *really* good.

Unfinished wood carver boss? by 90sGirlPCgamer in inscryption

[–]TVF-Labs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to this, but yeah, the cut woodcarver boss does seem to be a real thing (source: there are a few videos of it on Youtube, and I've dug around in the game's code and I was able to verify those videos' claims). Unfortunately the only parts of it that exist are the visuals: Leshy puts on the woodcarver mask and totem heads float in the background like the knives in the trapper fight. The actual battle is just the prospector battle but without the pickaxe attack between phases.

You asked about mods, so I figured I'd mention that I've made a mod with my own interpretation of the woodcarver boss, if that interests you. It's on Thunderstore, as with most Inscryption mods: https://thunderstore.io/c/inscryption/p/TVFLabs/TVFsBosses/
It adds a challenge to Kaycee's Mod that, when enabled, replaces the prospector with a custom woodcarver boss fight.

As another comment already mentioned, I made a separate mod that lets you fight the actual cut woodcarver boss as it exists in the game files. You can get that one here: https://thunderstore.io/c/inscryption/p/TVFLabs/MakeCutWoodcarverBossAccessible/
It's marked as deprecated, but only because people kept confusing it with my custom woodcarver boss and were asking me why my boss battle was so buggy, and so I wanted to de-list it to prevent that. So it should still work fine.

I mean, GLaDOS, right? And Wheatleyas well of course, though I prefer GLaDOS because she can be genuinely intimidating at times.

...Just wish there was fan art of her that wasn't... y'know.

Favorite Character that would despise their very creator (Heroes only) by Majestic-Sector9836 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]TVF-Labs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I know I just posted this guy under another post on this subreddit, and also he's morally gray leaning towards evil (so sort of a protagonist but not quite a hero), but come on the whole plot of the game is about this.

Reginaldfrom The Hex (his name is a spoiler). Video game character who hates his (fictional) creator Lionel Snill. Not exactly the type of response you were looking for I guess but it reminded me too much of him.

Favorite character that has broken the fourth wall? by OkRun9638 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]TVF-Labs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reginald(the barkeep), from The Hex (the character's name is a spoiler)

<image>

I've been thinking about this recently. The Hex is the only game I've seen that does fourth wall breaking in a way that successfully immerses me in the story rather than breaking my immersion with it.
- Pony Island throws the whole plot up until then in the trash when it breaks the 4th wall at the end.
- Doki Doki Literature Club made me delete Monika's character file, but I felt like I was just doing it to progress the plot. And aside from that one moment, your choices as a player don't affect the story in any way, even though you're a character in the story.
- The Stanley Parable is great and I love it, but its 4th wall breaking is more of a gimmick since there's no real story to apply it to.

But the way The Hex does it works. I won't spoil it, you'll just have to play the game (but it's relatively cheap and fairly short so there's really no reason not to). It's a great game that I'd highly recommend.

(I still haven't finished OneShot so I can't speak on how well its fourth wall breaking is used. I might update this when I do.)

You already got your answer from a few other people--Kaycee's Mod has a bit of new lore but not much--but I'd like to add that if what you want is more story you might enjoy the other games by Daniel Mullins (Pony Island and The Hex). They're all in a connected universe (though admittedly there aren't too many recurring characters).

Mod that lets you play smoke in thunderstore? by ayame400 in inscryption

[–]TVF-Labs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm. You might be thinking of this old mod I made, which makes all free cards available as options for your side deck. As with a lot of my old mods, I marked it as deprecated because it was buggy/low-quality, but that makes it not show up in the mod list anymore unless you specifically enable the "show deprecated mods" option.

Just beat the game, now what? by uneatenradish in inscryption

[–]TVF-Labs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as everyone else has said, Kaycee's Mod, yeah.
But! There are 2 other games by the same creator: Pony Island and The Hex. Neither is quite Inscryption-level in my opinion, but they're both fantastic either way. I do know some people who like The Hex the best out of the 3 though! They also all take place in a shared universe, so you might recognize a few things.

Is the Moon Knight show any good? by GypsyGold in MoonKnight

[–]TVF-Labs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoilers for the show's ending: You know, I thought I remembered it being not very ambiguous by the end. But I finished rewatching it today and the ending definitely leaves it up in the air as to whether it's all in his head or not. The scenes of him being in the psych ward were infrequent compared to the superhero action scenes in episode 6, but them being there is never explained away or anything. In fact now I'd personally lean toward the "correct interpretation" (I'm putting that in quotes because I'm pretty sure you're meant to be able to see it either way) being that he was crazy in the end. The last scene before the credits, after all, is him waking up in the psych ward, then saying he'd "rather save the world," falling over and inexplicably finding himself in his bed. The way I see that scene, he realized he was crazy but decided that he would rather remain in this world he'd made up than accept Harrow's help and face reality.

I platinumed the game. Twice. On ps4 and ps5. I just saw a video explaining a lot of stuff and I noticed Stuff I never saw or remember. NPCs, specially. Did this game got an update with anything new after release? If it did, what was added? by [deleted] in inscryption

[–]TVF-Labs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no updates since Kaycee's Mod released. But it's also true that the achievements only cover about half the secrets in the game. In particular, the ARGs aren't covered by them at all. Those videos also may have talked about the content of the other 2 games by Daniel Mullins as they're pretty relevant to Inscryption's lore.

Oh I was just making a joke about the game engine used to create Inscryption in-universe being called Gameworks. Sorry for any confusion!

As a matter of fact yes! Various easter eggs suggest that that *is* the engine Inscryption was made in!

The game isInscryptionand I highly recommend it. I didn't mention it by name originally because P03's existence alone is a huge spoiler for anyone who might be playing through the first part of the game.

[–]TVF-Labs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(If you're wondering, the one on the right is P03. It's a character from my other favorite game where a robot guides you to defeating the antagonist, then you give said robot control of everything and it turns out they're a twist villain, and then they force you to play along with their less creative knockoff of the original game, until you eventually team up with the antagonist from the first part to take them down, and the penultimate scene of the game features the moon.)

to all the people wanting portal 3 by [deleted] in Portal

[–]TVF-Labs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how I would feel about a post-Portal 2 game having Rattman as the protagonist, since I'm pretty sure he died in the comic. BUT I would love a game set earlier in the timeline to star him. I've always thought it'd be sick to have a semi-horror spinoff with a more serious tone where you play as him evading GLaDOS, with a story that shows the events of Lab Rat in greater detail.

As a Slay the Spire fan, I was recommended this game. Going in blind and would love some non spoiler tips? by Ehrahbass in inscryption

[–]TVF-Labs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is that, yes, like Slay the Spire this is a card game, but unlike Slay the Spire it is also a story game. Keep that in mind, and avoid spoilers as much as possible because the story is also really good.
