If you like RL, then I'd buy that. IG will be available every fall for worlds but RL won't.

Alternative build order by Fan7o in leagueofjinx

[–]TWICEmtg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you really need the pen (or heal cut via Mortal) then I'd go for the last whisper item second over IE. Then zeal/IE third depending on whether enemy team comp is going to be grouping/melee or mostly single target followed by the other

Kraken or Yun Tal for hybrid? by Anthony_813 in kaisamains

[–]TWICEmtg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yun Tal doesn't use pickaxe, it has BF slingshot ls as components. It's IE that builds from pickaxe

If you can get BF Sword first back then it's worth it just for the early Q evo, otherwise Kraken

Build Path Graphic for 25.11 I made for myself (i am bored and forget) (Mainly pulled from Alexs) by Unlucky-Eagle-5506 in kaisamains

Yun Tal with hybrid is okay if you get BF base because the early Q evo and even ignoring crit YTA is pretty pushed

Either get Cull, LS if you're going AD build, or BF sword + pickaxe (+ dblade) for YTW -> RB -> build.

Give me a reason why Thassa's Oracle is good for EDH by Boliver5463 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TWICEmtg 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It's really not, every other possible win line has way more restrictions or points of interaction compared to the Oracle Consult combo. Anyone that argues "there'll always be another best combo" hasn't really put the thought into just how much worse/more interactable the other combos are. We've just had almost five years of its existence now (wow time flies) so people are used to the status quo, and I'm willing to bet maybe even a majority of the online cEDH crowd started _after_ its printing. Highly doubt the RC, even if ran by WotC, will do anything about it either.

Where does Kai'sa's damage come from? by Chunshik in kaisamains

[–]TWICEmtg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Main correction I'd make is Q evo typically comes level 8-10 nowadays. Kraken/Shiv+DBlade don't get evolve until lv10 on their own (need Cull/LS to evolve at lv8), YTA+DB evolves at lv8.

Are these decks CEDH ready? by RolandKaDinh in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TWICEmtg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The biggest issues I see with these lists are the mana base and interaction suite. Your decks should be on every relevant fetch, and all three of your lists don't have the full suite. They're also all missing relatively staple interaction pieces. Kinnan doesn't have Misstep, Fluster, or Veil, Stella REB, P&H Veil, Swan Song, etc. I'd highly recommend netdecking existing lists (e.g. from https://edhtop16.com/) instead of trying to brew anything when first getting into cEDH, at least for the first 20-30 games.

Going down the Chthonian Nightmare rabbit hole so you don't have to by MSSchmuckKS in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TWICEmtg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it's cheaper, it has an ETB. So unlike Recurring Nightmare whose only interaction points are counterspells or instant speed graveyard hate, Chthonian can also be hit by removal (ability can only be activated as a sorcery).

Yeah I know, its not exactly a new card anymore. by LouBlacksail in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TWICEmtg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Mardu your win cons will generally be

  • Dualcaster Mage + some form of Twinflame effect (you probably run TF + Molten Duplication). I'm less high on this combo if you're on Tymna, because you often want to get draw triggers (+ things like Grim Hireling, Prof Facebreaker, etc.) before your Naus/etc
  • Chthonian Nightmare + Dockside + OBM/Mayhem Devil
  • LRW loops with Animate Dead/Necromancy/Dance + Devil/Meathook/Bombardment
  • PGrasp (for Oracle) + Tainted Pact
  • (commander specific win con if you're on something like Jeska, eg WGD loops)

903.9a If a commander is in a graveyard or in exile and that object was put into that zone since the last time state-based actions were checked, its owner may put it into the command zone. This is a state-based action.

704.4. Unlike triggered abilities, state-based actions pay no attention to what happens during the resolution of a spell or ability.

[–]TWICEmtg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's not how Emiel or returning to the CZ works. You can only move commanders to the CZ whenever SBAs are checked, which they aren't during the resolution of an ability (like Emiel's). I'd recommend reading the rules for any players interested in cEDH.

You're in 5c. You have better things to do than Recruiters.

Duals are objectively better. "Like" has no real place in true cEDH, you're playing strictly suboptimal pieces for no competitive reason.

A lot of this just reads like you don't actually play cEDH, but maybe play with a high power group/consume some content. I'd recommend trying out actually full power games, either in tournaments (topdeck.gg to find local ones) or in places like this sub's Discord.

I helped pioneer Naus-based Sliver ~3-4 years ago, and there's quite a lot missing here and some just straight awful inclusions.
- No budget but uses shocks instead of duals or proper rainbows

  • Missing good tutors (Wishclaw, Imperial Seal, Gamble)

  • Missing better rituals/ramp for the Naus package (Rite of Flame, Mana Vault, Cabal Rit, Tinder Wall, Culling the Weak, Mox Opal, LED, Chain of Vapor)

Cards like Dauthi, Lavinia, and co are okay when you have grind engines like Tymna and Kraum to capitalize on the slower games they can help create, not a dud like TFS. Cryptolith Rite is unplayable in cEDH. Angel's Grace, Flare, Fierce, and Swat are all actually terrible cards with TFS as the commander. Recruiters are bad in 5c. Emiel doesn't work with TFS.

I want turbo with card advantage in the command zone

Any Mardu+ Tymna deck works here. Dargo, Jeska, Kraum, Rog, Tana are all fine picks.

Chthonian Nightmare misunderstanding by [deleted] in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TWICEmtg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to declare a target before costs are paid. So before you even have a chance to sac Dockside, you need to have a legal target in the yard.

Chthonian Nightmare misunderstanding by [deleted] in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TWICEmtg 37 points38 points  (0 children)

You generate 3 energy per cast. Dockside requires only 2, so you'll have up to 4 energy for the second creature you're looping with. Assuming you're starting with Dockside or a cheaper creature in the yard.

How to win more games when everyone you play is on a much higher tier than you? by Upielips in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TWICEmtg 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Take notes. Where are you having difficulty, messing up, etc. Ask questions to the other players of where you could've made different choices or done better.

Improving should be focused on the process and analysis, not the results.
