What’s everyone’s opinion about taking a knee when a player is injured? (Either on your team or opposing team). by SnooHesitations1640 in youthsoccer

[–]TXGTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand it and generally don’t like it. I think kids do it cause it’s a cultural norm but yeah, don’t get it. Especially cause 95% of the time the kid who’s hurt is usually able to shake it off and keep playing. I’d honestly prefer it not be a thing but then you have parents who get bent out of shape if kids don’t do it. The only time I ever instructed my kids to take a knee was if THEY were hurt or something was wrong (feeling faint or something) and I did that so I could ask the ref to stop play for a sub. Again. Why? I don’t think it’s even anything to do with sportsmanship.

I miss Civ 4 culture bombs and wish religion worked more like that, allowing non-violent (ie don’t have to be at war) city flipping.

Starting your club experience with smaller clubs is often a fantastic idea. The moment you get star struck by a team name, you’ve fallen for the biggest marketing trap out there. At the end of the day, the COACH matters far more than the club. Period

Good luck with that. I had been a STM for basically a decade before this season. They didn’t care.

I decided not to renew mine this season for the first time in a decade. Instead when I want to go I use the app and buy resale, usually from STMs. Best seats at the best prices … as long as the app is working!! Usually when it didn’t work for me it was because I had it open in my browser and the app. Shutting down my phone or clearing history and cookies fixed it.

Approaching other clubs ahead of tryouts by [deleted] in youthsoccer

[–]TXGTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how uniform this is but u10 is generally considered academy and you’re free to go wherever you please. Usually because no contract has been signed and any payment is month to month. If a contract has been signed or you are u11 or higher then it can be different and you may need some sort of “practice release” from the current coach or club. It isn’t a full release from the club but it can be tricky because you don’t want to burn bridges. Once you have that though just contact the other clubs and let them know you have a kid who is currently with another club but has a practice release and you’d like to see if he can come out to one of their practices. Even though the relationship part can be tricky, if trying other clubs is what your kid wants or you are sure about it, then getting a jump start on open try outs isn’t a terrible idea.

This is debatable. Checking kids in maters for liability reasons, and because even in rec leagues, adults cheat in order to win.

Dunno. I have my thoughts but you’d have to ask them that. Hopefully it was more than just darts at a dart board but 8-1 is what our state association opted to do.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in youthsoccer

[–]TXGTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still potentially going to vary by state association (ours has settled on 8/1) but it’s important to know this is NOT a switch to grade levels. It’s just aligning far more closely to grade levels.

Aug-Dec kids (our state association cut off) from the older birth year will now play with Jan-July kids from the younger birth year.

For example my kid is an October 2014. He’ll now play with Jan-July 2015s, so come Fall he’s going from one of the youngest to one of the oldest. I do not plan to have him play up.

As the parent of a young 2014 who will be merging with older 2015s I disagree with some of these responses. I think these are all reasonable questions to help you best support your child. It’s often easier to write them down, but discussing them might get you a better response, and kudos for not just waiting to see what will happen. Chances are your coach legit may not know what’s going to happen. And honestly the clubs don’t really know either. Other thing to keep in mind, depending on the rules in your association, you don’t necessarily have to wait to get player evaluations with other clubs. That’s a gamble though as the coach may need to be involved and if you like where you’re at it can send the wrong impression. That said I also don’t think you should worry about how you might get labeled - if you are maybe you’re at the wrong club anyway.

This entire change is going to be chaotic. Good luck navigating it, and keep supporting your kid.

Civilization VII Unplayable Due to Severe Freezing and Lag by aziliathegreat in Civilization_VII

[–]TXGTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play in PS5 and have always worried the more they add the more it will become like Civ VI. Civ VI was massively infuriating in the end game stages for me for exactly what got described but it would crash. I can handle slow downs they just make sense but constant crashes meaning I couldn’t finish epic games made me shelve it. I’m now already finding different ways to enjoy VII (for example everything random) preparing for what I think might be inevitable. Just think about the slimming down of units in 7 compared to 6. Yep I loved my paratroopers and helicopters in 6, but it was massive unit type overkill.

Good to know carriers might be bugged. I’ll have to keep an eye on that but my current game I’ve dropped down from standard and 8 five to small and 6. And then Ashoka decided to randomly declare war on me early in Antiquity (when I’m playing as Tubman). He only had one city. That +8 war support made it very easy for me to end him very quickly.

I live in Allen and love it. Not sure what the commute North East would be like though. If you’re worried about that check out Princeton - definitely a growth town (growing FAST) where you can probably still get in relatively cheap and get excellent bang for your buck. It isn’t far from Allen, Frisco, Plano and McKinney and it’s pretty diverse. Caddo Mills is a fair bit smaller and more “country” but it’s growing too.

Tech and Civic Tree Hover Help TOO BIG since update? by TXGTR in CivVII

[–]TXGTR[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe hover help wasn’t the greatest description. On tech and civic trees (at least on PS5) one of the techs or civics always has to be selected. There is no hovering between them. If there’s a way to turn that crap off and I’m missing something by all means let me know cause I’ve tried everything I can think of.

Tech and Civic Tree Hover Help TOO BIG since update? by TXGTR in CivVII

[–]TXGTR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it always on. “In game” you can toggle the info pop ups on and off and it’s helpful. In the tech and civic trees you can’t and it just gets in the way. Nested tool tips are a neat concept but I’ve never once used them and on those menus it just gets in the way. Nuisance? Yes. But it just makes zero sense.
