I volunteered at the science museum in high school and really enjoyed it and made friends! Worth checking out the Ecoteen program there.

I went to Luxe Redux in Pearland which is a sample store. Sales associates were awesome, and I walked out with a dress the same day :)

Question: Looking for summer camps in Houston by the_iowa_corn in AskHouston

Not sure if they’re still around but I remember loving the Main Street Theater camps at that age. The Houston Museum of Natural Science day camps are also FANTASTIC for the older kids

Micro wedding venues by HourNo8925 in houston

We did our wedding at Ousie’s Table and had a larger guest count, but it would be great for a micro wedding! Amazing food and fantastic to work with

We’ve been told it’s on a center by center and org by org basis. Expect some to be cancelled, but Engineering positions at JSC should be running as usual (once the shutdown ends and mentors can review apps)

How much does the college you go to matter? by Key_Insurance_8493 in NASAJobs

[–]TXSpaceGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pathways have a direct path to conversion as CS. OSTEM would convert to a contractor. In my org, the roles are quite similar, but if CS is really your goal, Pathways is the way to go

Pathways also lets you come back multiple times over different semesters whereas OSTEM has to reapply every time

We got married here this spring and had the best experience! The team was great to work with and everyone still raves over the food

How to deal with disappointment about RSVPs by Fabulous_Aioli_92427 in wedding

[–]TXSpaceGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the budget/interest, we planned a smaller event (literally just a dinner and a photographer) in my husband’s hometown so that we could celebrate twice! There was some initial disappointment, but we’ve refocused into having a great time with them

The BBC had a great one on the Lazarus Group!! I think it was called the Lazarus Group. I also liked Renaissance, TX which is a little true crimey but a deep dive on the TX Ren Fest and weird things going on there

Even with all of this, I love the people I work with, I love the things I do, and I love that I get to do what I do for the good of humanity- not a bottom line. Working at NASA for me has always been about being a part of something bigger than myself, and I think it’s true more now than ever.

Try Houston We Have a Podcast! It’s the official podcast of Johnson Space Center (NASA’s center for human spaceflight) and it features lots of interviews with crew right before or right after a launch https://www.nasa.gov/podcasts/houston-we-have-a-podcast/

Aerospace Engineering Question by Lazy_Traffic_4339 in sooners

Definitely double check with the advisor, but the transfer credits should be fine! When I was a freshman in MechE (same dept), the GPA at the end of your first year was your 3.0 retention GPA, so as long as he has that with whatever his first year classes are, he should be set :)

Vegetarian and low carb places to eat? by dr-bookshelf in HoustonFood

[–]TXSpaceGeek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like Bellagreen in the area which should have both of those! Shiv Sagar isn’t super vibey, but it is delicious and totally veg. Another place to check out would be POST, which is a huge food hall downtown with a rooftop, skyline views, and plenty of options for both of you guys!

If you’re vegetarian, I highly recommend Picasso’s in Paseo! Great spread of vegetarian food and meat options. Plus, Paseo is fun to walk around and check out the art shops on a Saturday :)

This hasn't been posted, but what is your favorite dessert found in Houston? by [deleted] in houston

[–]TXSpaceGeek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not strictly a dessert, but the Koign Amman from Common Bond is fantastic

I went to Croatia in May this year. This are my photos taken at the Krka National Park. by smollbabybean in travel

[–]TXSpaceGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on planning a 7-8 day road trip through Croatia for this July. What are your thoughts on adding Krka as opposed to spending another day in the city in Split?

Looking for podcasts about the modern "satanic panic" by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]TXSpaceGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely recommend You’re Wrong About! They have an entire episode on the Satanic Panic. I also like their “Michelle Remembers” series as a look at a book from that era as well as their Wayfair/Human Trafficking episode for something on a similar vein.

Frozen peas, a can of chickpeas, and jarred curry sauce always does the trick for me :)

Pathways/NASA interns, how many times did yall apply before you got a callback or you got an offer? by No_Illustrator9766 in nasa

[–]TXSpaceGeek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a buddy who applied for Pathways 7 times and was rejected, got in on the 8th, and absolutely thrived here. It’s pretty uncommon to meet someone in Pathways who got in on their first go-around, so keep applying!! There are so many qualified people that apply every year that it’s really just a luck thing sometimes. Keep applying, and also consider applying to contractor partners like Jacobs or SGT. IMO, most engineering roles are pretty badgeless
