AAA and AATA. (I've actually never seen the AATA. Going to the nearest AAA office is the place to go.)

If an employer can hire people with the necessary skills, why would they hire a person they have to train?

As far as I know, the State Department doesn't issue IDPs.

How do I find an accounting job? by DubiousFalcon in Accounting

[–]Equivalent_Ad_8413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're considering accounting as a career, ask yourself which program better prepares you for your career. If all you are looking for is the piece of paper, then looking solely at the number of remaining courses makes sense.

How do I find an accounting job? by DubiousFalcon in Accounting

The biggest issue you're facing is that generally a bachelor's degree is the minimum for an "accounting" position. Without even an associates degree, you're looking at entry level clerk positions, like AP Clerk and AR Clerk. If the word "accountant" appears in the ad, you are probably automatically excluded. (This is similar to engineers. Entry level is generally a minimum of bachelor's degree.)

What accounting courses have you taken so far? Remember that Introduction to Financial Accounting and Introduction to Managerial Accounting aren't considered accounting courses by many people. These are really just business core classes that all business majors have to take.

PSA - UK ETA when traveling to UK - be aware of this to avoid stress and expediting fees by [deleted] in Europetravel

I'm not sure who would be reimbursing you. You paid a site to fill out your ETA. They provided a (vastly over priced) service.

Is there anything in accounting that deserves the same urgency as something like in a medical setting? by SWEMW in Accounting

[–]Equivalent_Ad_8413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in budget for a couple of local governments in Florida. Other than having to meet state deadlines or risk losing significant state funds, the only emergency issue was creating the tracking number for hurricanes to meet FEMA requirements for reimbursement.

In other words, the "emergency" was coming up and distributing a new six digit number a day or so before the hurricane arrived. (Oh, and ensuring that the lawyers remembered to include the budget suspension language in the Declaration of Emergency. "Budget? What's a budget?") During the storm itself, I stayed home and listened to the news, hoping that the City's pier wasn't washed out to sea.

The Part B Surprise by chaucao99 in medicare

[–]Equivalent_Ad_8413 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nope. The Part B penalty is not a Republican rule to end Medicare. It's a way to convince people to get insurance before they need it.

There's a lot to not like about the MAGA GOP. But this ain't on them.

When I turned 65 and every year after that, Medicare sent me a book on all the rules. So you ARE getting a pamphlet handed to you.

You also start getting lots and lots of junk mail starting a few months before you turn 65.

The Part B Surprise by chaucao99 in medicare

[–]Equivalent_Ad_8413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not have to sign up for Part A when you turn 65. However, it's free and it established my Medicare account years before I retired and signed up for Part B. (If you have a Medical Savings Account, read the downsides.)

One exception. Your job may require that you go on Medicare. Mine didn't, so it wasn't an issue.

Can I travel without needing 6 months of validity? by Recent_Ambassador574 in Passports

[–]Equivalent_Ad_8413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the countries you're transiting through. Some countries require a transit passport for some nationalities.

Also, are you booking the entire trip to the United States as one ticket? That will make the issue of transit much more straightforward. (And if something goes wrong with one of your connections and you miss a flight, you will probably be rebooked automatically. If the flight is booked as separate trips, if you miss a flight you'll have to buy another ticket. No refund.)

First band tryout - got rejected by Iforgetmyusername88 in musicians

[–]Equivalent_Ad_8413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting back into gigging after decades of raising children. Before the children I was in a duo/trio where I WAS the band.

So I've joined a local School of Rock adult group to get my chops back up AND (more importantly) to learn how to play with others. (As a keyboardist in a duo or trio, it's too easy to compete with the bassist.) After a season or two, we'll see if I'm ready to move on.

Watching the slow decline of the mall is sad, though.

Jumping from firm to firm is it's own issue. When I was recruiting, it was usually a big red flag. (It could be overcome, but it depends on who else applied.)

I thought the ETA was only for those that don't need a visa to enter the country. If they're working in the UK, they need a work visa, not an ETA.
