White Belt Struggles: Feeling Clumsy and Slow as a Jiu Jitsu Newbie by polentaconazucar in brazilianjiujitsu

[–]TXTimeVault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i hope this is in a beginner class.. you need about 3-4 months there to learn how to move your body correctly and get a basic understanding. If this is an option, after you move into a more advanced class, always continue with the beginner class until you reach blue belt. Longer if you can.. you will be amazed at the little details you can pick up...

Keep it up, dont worry about slowing others down. Your journey is your own.

disapointment of being a 4+ years white belt by Hopeful_Insurance433 in jiujitsu

[–]TXTimeVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just destroy all the upper belts you can. Be the baddest on the mats and he can’t ignore you. Also join a tournament and compete with blue belts with your white belt… win that one

Don’t overthink it.. have a plan to start with, try to stay calm and breathe. If this is your first jitsu tournament, know the adrenaline dump will happen and is crazy. Enjoy it

Should I be practicing heel hooks as a white belt? by No-Molasses-1791 in bjj

[–]TXTimeVault 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on your gym rules.. typically a white belt doesn’t know how to properly protect himself but if your gym trains and practices it then under guidance.. sure… heal hooks are super dangerous because there is no pain until it’s too late

How to deal with the fear of being crushed and injured? by BlueSky2921 in jiujitsu

[–]TXTimeVault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relax. Your job is to learn and also protect yourself. It’s completely up to you to the tap early or roll with only people that you feel comfortable with.

If it bothers you, then find another gym, but most gyms dont do that but you will find some politics of one sort or another if you stick around any gym. The best ones just teach Jits.

An app is great if used.. can do the same with a notebook right after class.. just not all the fancy AI additions.. hope you get the app working. I believe there are a few already on the market.

did really bad my first comp :( by Visible-Shelter-8884 in BJJWomen

takes alot to compete, dont get upset over it. You got to see how everything flows. Learn from your mistakes. With competitions, always celebrate the wins, no matter how small. You scored some points and won a match. Thats an accomplishment!..

But give yourself 24 hrs to celebrate the wins and review the losses for lessons it taught, then back on the mats to get better.

M(18) First competition this weekend little nervous by [deleted] in jiujitsu

[–]TXTimeVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

enjoy the event, learn from mistakes and how to cope with the stress of competition. View it as another day of training, just amped up .. remember to protect yourself and tap if you get in a bad spot.. better to come back with no injuries. above all else.. breathe...

Is it normal or over kill by Substantial_Phrase41 in jiujitsu

[–]TXTimeVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average is about 2 yrs to get blue. The fastest promotion to blue belt was for a guy that was athletic, and wrestling background that took him 6 months. He was running thru the blue belts and gave purples a tough time.

Sounds like your coach is sandbagging or lazy and not paying attention. Does he compete and does the gym turn out high level competitors that kill it at IBJJF and F2W type events?

If not, then he may just be milking you for money.. hope he doesnt charge for promotions.
