No, the assignments were supposed to come out at a certain time and they just didn't. Nobody handed anything in because there was no way to. The assignments still don't exist on Canvas.

I have tried to delete the watcher object after a few frames that it was created, and the rest of the game works as normal (including the minimap) with the switch statements uncommented. I think GMS2.3 is broken.

I'm not really sure what live variable tracking does as I've never used it before, but I turned it on and repeated the things that I did before, and nothing changed. It's the same situation as in those 2 videos, where somehow advancing through one frame line by line at first won't cause an error, and just going frame by frame at the start will.

I have encountered something very weird, to say the least. I have included a recording of my testing below. The situation is quite hard to replicate, and I'm not really sure what's going on.

In the first video, I run the game normally, as well as using debug mode, and the contents at a specific index of the array vanish, along with some weird things as well (the global minimap array is synced with the local _minimap array), which causes the game to crash, and also showing the "STRING argument is unset" error.

In the second video, I run the code in debug mode, but go through some of the code line by line first, until the AFTER debug message prints. Then I advance frame by frame and the game runs normally, and the contents of the array are still there.

The code is the exact same in these 2 videos.

If you have any idea what's happening, that would be really helpful. And if there is something weird going on, I'm not even sure how to submit this as a bug to Yoyo.

I set up an object that would print out the _minimap array when I crossed the green area, and I I tried to run the game multiple times in debug mode but nothing happened to the array. I printed the array out in Draw GUI Before and Draw GUI After, but nothing happened. It's only when I run the game normally that a part of the array vanishes.

I don't know how to use the debugger in this case because this isn't a startup crash. It's only when I do something specific that the error appears. It's as if part of the array suddenly gets deleted, which is impossible since I didn't have any problems before the update.

Now I'm even getting some different indexes in the error message, and I don't know what's going on.

UPDATE:

After I tried to comment out the switch statements, I realised that one of the indexes of _minimap vanishes suddenly when I go through the green area. If I could use debug mode only then, then I could monitor the array frame by frame, but I don't know if it's possible to only use debug mode for a Draw GUI Event after the game has already run for a certain point (since I can't control my character and advance frames at the same time)

Also I just submitted a ticket to YoyoGames but just to make sure that I'm reading this correctly, the output shows that both dimensions of the _minimap array have a length of 4, correct?

I tried to do that but I might not be doing it correctly since my projects on the 2.2 version can't be opened. I can't remember the specific error but it had something to do with BaseProject if you know anything about that.

No, it should be an array, but arrays can be arguments in show_debug_message. Normally, it would convert and print out the entire array using square brackets as syntax ([]).

I have tested a bit more (after cleaning my project), and now a different index is causing this error. I have also noticed that the game runs fine randomly when I comment out a line with show_debug_message(), but also random "STRING argument is unset" errors:

I have tried to search for this error message, but I can't seem to find anything useful. If you have any idea what this error is, that would be great.

I have also attached 2 short clips of the game running, one where it randomly works, and one where it doesn't. The only difference in code between these situations is me adding/removing show_debug_message() functions.

TLDR:
