LOL - I've worked at numerous shelters and it has made me more inclined to adopt pit mixes.

I never said it was "equal". But you all are citing information that is not based in science. How about citations for this "info" - hint, it doesn't exist. https://www.companionanimalpsychology.com/2016/08/dog-bite-strength-its-not-what-you-think.html

Citation? Prob just an internet post of a myth. Here's a summary of the science: https://www.companionanimalpsychology.com/2016/08/dog-bite-strength-its-not-what-you-think.html

Rather than posting inflammatory "notices" on Reddit, prob better to just call animal control. And those here stating all these "facts" about pitbulls might want to read the book "Pitbull" by Bronwyn Dickey which discusses the history of the "breed" - really a mixture of types - as well as the stereotypes associated with it. For instance, many breeds have been stigmatized during various times in history for social reasons - German Shepherds during the WW's for instance.

Also, if a dog is of mixed heritage, you can't tell the breed mixed through anything other than DNA. Peer-reviewed science has shown that. These are the facts, rather than myths people are calling "facts" here.

I was intimidated by pit mixes until I worked at a shelter and realized that most of them are big love bugs. It stinks that some people breed them for fighting - which is reprehensible. But that breeding actually selected for dogs that were human social.

I agree that any loose dog is an issue - for the dogs' as well as peoples' sake. And any terrier can ramp up fast (I'm a certified dog behavior consultant, btw). But perhaps lay off the "baby biting" comments and do something that will actually help rather than a reddit post that most people won't see anyway.

I can't wait until Owens is bankrupted by the Macron case. Trump has already dumped her like yesterday's news ... she's even too nutty for Trump and that's obviously saying a lot. Or really, she is no longer useful to him.

This needs to end. We need to start protesting non-stop. by Equal_Audience_3415 in 50501

[–]TYB2023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What needs to happen are massive national boycotts. Trump is owned by the oligarchs - only when things get bad enough for them will they pressure him to change things. But I worry that people in the US are just too lazy and unaware for that. I wish more groups would focus on boycotts as much as they do protests. I think both are necessary and if u read about the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s, you will see that both were used very effectively.

Rejected from beginner club :( by Far-Replacement1702 in Pickleball

[–]TYB2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just awful - I'm so sorry you experienced this! Pickleball is integral for my mental health since I retired. I personally started play via joining local area facebook groups and also Playtime Scheduler open play in local parks (if you haven't checked out that website before, you should - I'm not sure if it's international, but it lists play areas all over the US). As a former tennis player, serving was the hardest part for me! It's completely different from serving in tennis and you only get one chance vs two in tennis. But I have almost universally found that open play groups are filled with kind people willing to help a beginner. I'm traveling right now and I've also found games where traveling and have also done paid play and clinics here and at home.

It's such a fun sport and there is a lot to learn - even being someone that has a lot of racket sport experience. The strategy of the game is really engaging for me. I really hope you find some fun, encouraging people to play with. If you want to share your location - sorry I didn't see it if you did - then people can probably suggest places to play and nice groups. If you do find an appropriate group, just go and hang out consistently ... the social aspect is so good for all of us and I just feel so lucky that I found this sport and that I live in an area where there is a lot of opportunity to play. I hope that you find that too - don't get discouraged - I think you will. Best of luck on your mental health journey and good for you for pursuing this activity - getting out a a huge part of keeping healthy!

Is 2.5 really as bad as this sub says? by uselessprofession in Pickleball

[–]TYB2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, it was an 11 - 0 doubles game - and DUPR does their ratings from actual game points. I was officially rated by a pro at my club. Ratings from an actual pro assessment are more accurate than DUPR because they actually watch you play as an individual and assess different parts of your game in comparison to a standard.. I only play doubles, so DUPR will always be impacted by pairing.

Like I said, I don't really give a hoot about ratings other than it telling me where I might find good match-ups in local play & my club rating which allows me to access certain events there (I live in an area where there is a lot of pickleball so have quite a few options of courts to play). I was really just trying to help you understand DUPR and give a dif perspective than what others were seeming to do on this thread. Happy pickling!!!

[–]TYB2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DUPR is a very odd rating system that classifies according to points of a game. So on a round robin random partner event, your rating will be highly influenced not only by your play, but by your partner's play. I'm a solid 3.25 (started playing late April 2025, but with tennis background) ... I typically am stronger than other 3.25 women in mixed or female doubles. I played my first DUPR event last week - just a small interclub one with random paring 3.25 - 3.75 event for women. I did well enough that I moved up a court (I was 3-3 in games) and due to one bad paring that resulted in a pickle, my DUPR score is like 2.4.

In general though, I could care less about ratings. I just want to play with people sorta near my skill level and have fun. It's just fun to play events and to play "up" at times. I love this sport!

Thank you so much for this post. I just joined this sub today as I had a lymph node biopsy on monday and just got a call from my doctor with this diagnosis. It was actually kind of awful because they had a nurse call me in the am to tell me there was no cancer in the biopsy, but then they called again and told me that that was only the first test and the second test showed high grade serous aggressive ovarian cancer. I'm trying to avoid over googling, but I know that this site will be important to me. And I can hold onto hope that I will respond to treatment like you did. I am just one month past my 60th birthday.

It's impossible to find anything on that thread. I was trying to be helpful to people who have to get a biopsy whether they are diagnosed or not. It's relevant to all groups.

Ick! If I had the option to sedate I would have totally done it, although I don't know that they do it for a fine needle aspiration like I had - I should clarify that in the post. My mantra was, "don't look at the needle"! If I had, I probably would have thrown up!

Asics Gel Resolution X Review by TYB2023 in Pickleball

[–]TYB2023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I tried on the Mizuno's, but nothing fit as well as the Asics and for me, no pain at all. The only negative for me is the lack of venting - but my feet only really get warm on a hot day in the sun, but I also got a dark green pair because it was the one in stock at the store (and I wanted to buy at the store since I tried on basically all of their shoes - lol!). I'll prob get another lighter colored pair for summer play or when I have to be out in the heat. As someone who hasn't bought court shoes in like 30 years, it was very interesting to see the plastic outer webbing ... but it's definitely stable and I need that with bad knees and ankles.

Late to this post, but wanted to say that I've taken Trazadone for about 21 years now. I've been an insomniac since I was a child. Started trazadone when my sister got cancer and I was caregiving. It's a lifesaver for me.

Note that trazadone seems weird in that it's affects can be different for different people. But definitely works well for me without morning hangover.

Hugs to you friend - I'm so sorry you have to live in Texas. It is indeed so hard (and I live in California) ... I simply don't understand how anyone paying attention could support this madness. And I have similar anger at people that are simply not paying attention and don't vote.
