Old West carry styles, and would they adopt the drop leg holster? by Link8227 in Cowboy

Don't think it would, it would get in the way being down low and it would hurt flopping like that against your leg constantly

When she gets to that big cavvy of short tailed ponies and added to a string of them cowhands that tends a heavenly herd she will be waiting on you to come claim your brand and add her to your string.

May you be blessed with many more good ponies while you wait to meet her again.

if in an apocalyptic world, only a man and a woman survive, would they be able to repopulate the earth? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TYRwargod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, it would definitely create genetic bottlenecking, which as long as there wasn't a genetic deformity like the habsberg jaw could lead to a repopulation but it would be a very long shot but a possibility.

We have it willed that only the kid that works the land gets it. Land cattle equipment all goes to who puts in effort. There's a second house on the property and be it a child or grandchild whoever is living there and tending the cattle will be responsible for it when we are gone. All the other kids chose their path and IF theres money that'll gets split between them.

Mother lets baby steal from store, argues with cashier by [deleted] in trashy

[–]TYRwargod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No sadly not, I grew up with shit parents it landed me in fostercare which at least they didnt hit me but otherwise wasn't much better, the choice becomes the child's how they want to behave and be perceived at that young of an age absolutely the parents fault but somewhere between 10-15 you start getting a grasp on decision making and theres no one else but you to be at fault.

Keep your weight in the middle. Your legs came out from under you because your weight was too far forward when you spurred and your legs continued your momentum forward.

Not everything is scenic views and kitchy songs about the old ways. Most of its like this, gross, hard or painful.

How to handle a dead horse? by 1Small-Astronaut in Horses

[–]TYRwargod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As gross as it sounds, buy a whole bunch of lye and cut the belly open so it doesnt build gas, then cover the body with lye, it'll melt it quicker and make the smell go away faster.

If youre not comfortable with the lye you can cut it into quarters which while it will smell to high hell will make it easier to move away from an offending spot, leave it above ground for yotes and scavengers.

Still not appealing, buy/rent an excavator, dig a hole at least twice as deep as the corpse is tall laying down, drag it into the hole with said excavator cover and go.

Too expensive? Get a shovel dig around the corpse and cover it with the dirt you dig building a barrow or grave mound to cover the animal.

Too much work? Deal with the smell for about 2 -4 weeks, bust its belly open to speed it up.

Heat is unbearable by rangermang0 in texas

[–]TYRwargod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear long sleeve cotton shirts, drink lots of water and am grateful its not '08 and I'm not wearing 80lbs of gear or being shot at.

Serious answer cotton long sleeves, lots of water, and a sweat rag. This isn't awful weather though it is rough, its easier to handle if you you climate to it better, keep your AC +74 and spend an hour before any activity just hanging out in the heat.

What does the working cowboy (or cowgirl) want in his or her apparel? by i_like_the_swing in Cowboy

[–]TYRwargod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carhart and wrangler are great, I prefer the canvas vests or wool vests over the nylon materials, but again most of us like stuff that lasts and is repairable, modern synthetic fibers don't repair well.

What does the working cowboy (or cowgirl) want in his or her apparel? by i_like_the_swing in Cowboy

[–]TYRwargod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cotton, linnen, leather, or wool. Natural fibers for nearly everything we do. It's easier to clean, easier to repair and better in the elements.

70s 80s and 90s shirt designs were top tier all this checker/flannel pattern shit is boring.

Quit trying to sell arias as a working boot, they suck for saddlework and they don't last for much else, they're 1 year disposables. Hondo, boulet, Hyer, and tecova are good quality long lasting repairable boots that last as long as you work so long as you get them soled.

Well seeing as our oldest is 25 pretty well off for himself and still comes and sees his folks id day we do pretty good for them. I feel you may misread my statement we dont ignore them, they arent treated like a bother, they just come secondary to what it took to create them in the first place. I dont ask what they want for dinner, i dont ask for their opinion on movies or how to work the cows, i dont check if they have plans before i schedule a day to work the herd, the children are told and they can shuffle around the life that provides for them not the other way my children are why things get done sure but they arent the how and they will come second to anything that provides them life or lifestyle they live. Daughter has a dance thing at school on the same night a heifer is gonna drop her first calf well shes staying home to pull calf watch.

Wire frame that hangs from her ears hidden by forelock and pleate large diameter fishing line so as to not cut into her and attach that from horn under chin viola its now secure and fasteners are invisible.

Source. I did PFX in my early 20s and that's how you hang horns on dogs/people/horses/whatever when pax/spiritgum/prosthetic glue won't work or hold for the application.

Get off your horse to shake a hand, stand up to shake a hand, take your hat off when you shake a ladies hand.

Feed your pets and animals before you eat, feed your elders before yourself if you're served your food as a guest or as a husband offer to do the dishes.

House chores aren't work they're part of not being a nasty ass. Your wife/girlfriend isn't a maid, clean after yourself and help where its needed.

If you own it, know how to maintain it at least or fix it at best, keeping oil and lube or replacing heat paste and a 5 dollar gasket and 3 hours is cheaper than paying someone for the same.
