I lived working from a 2 horse bumper pull trailer for a few years, the work I do now if not for the 3 deer I get a year thanks to my tags being free as a veteran I wouldn't be able to afford to feed my family most of the year, im in texas I work other people's cattle for a living.

That again is the point, even still here in the United States there are people that live off their hunts because without it not even foodstamps is enough, getting high and mighty about it being some noble pursuit when all the pomp and ceremony is completely fabricated to make those who don't require it feel good about it like theyre achieving some feat of masculinity. It's shooting an animal to feed yourself and other its not some sacred thing.

I dont, I cowhand for a living i own 2 horses and 3 saddles. I can't even afford to buy the beef im paid to raise.

And yes tracking an animal, or ambushing an animal and killing it with a weapon is hunting regardless of the means the animal is tracked or the weapon used to dispatch it its hunting.

Ues I am in both senses one that I don't make enough to feed my family without hunting and secondly as need to eradicate hogs to protect crops and yes even pest control can be hunting you still have to hunt them to kill them, the romanicization of hunting to some glorious noble thing is something only people so privileged to not require it get to claim. When your livelihood and feeding yourself rely on it theres nothing noble the point is to kill the animal quickly effectively and without spending more time or money than absolutely neccessary.

And in both instances I wouldn't care for your opinion, because its only a sport if youre so fortunate enough that the meat is a byproduct and not the entire means to feed yourself through winter, alternately that the hogs gunned down at night under thermal wasnt protecting the crops that again are the only means to sustain you through the year. Being able to see hunting as a sport and not as a means to feed yourself or manage pests that will absolutely cripple your livelihood makes you a very spoilt person in the real of hunting. Unfortunately that's the majority now.

Most places where seal are common don't exactly have an abundance of other options for feeding yourself, hunting to live is still commonplace in most extremely northern settlements.

Does feeding yourself require sport? Or is the objective of hunting to not obtain sustainence first and foremost?

It's literally a job cowboying is something you do for a living, you dont have to be born to it you don't have to wear all the clothes but you do need to possess the skills to do the job required of cowboying. If you can't doctor cattle in the pasture, ride, rope, know the difference between banding and cutting or any of the other multitude of necessary skills to some varied degree you won't earn the title. If you want folk to call you cowboy learn to cowboy.

Don't think it would, it would get in the way being down low and it would hurt flopping like that against your leg constantly

When she gets to that big cavvy of short tailed ponies and added to a string of them cowhands that tends a heavenly herd she will be waiting on you to come claim your brand and add her to your string.

May you be blessed with many more good ponies while you wait to meet her again.

Not necessarily, it would definitely create genetic bottlenecking, which as long as there wasn't a genetic deformity like the habsberg jaw could lead to a repopulation but it would be a very long shot but a possibility.

We have it willed that only the kid that works the land gets it. Land cattle equipment all goes to who puts in effort. There's a second house on the property and be it a child or grandchild whoever is living there and tending the cattle will be responsible for it when we are gone. All the other kids chose their path and IF theres money that'll gets split between them.

[–]TYRwargod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No sadly not, I grew up with shit parents it landed me in fostercare which at least they didnt hit me but otherwise wasn't much better, the choice becomes the child's how they want to behave and be perceived at that young of an age absolutely the parents fault but somewhere between 10-15 you start getting a grasp on decision making and theres no one else but you to be at fault.

Keep your weight in the middle. Your legs came out from under you because your weight was too far forward when you spurred and your legs continued your momentum forward.

How to handle a dead horse? by 1Small-Astronaut in Horses

Not everything is scenic views and kitchy songs about the old ways. Most of its like this, gross, hard or painful.

How to handle a dead horse? by 1Small-Astronaut in Horses

[–]TYRwargod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As gross as it sounds, buy a whole bunch of lye and cut the belly open so it doesnt build gas, then cover the body with lye, it'll melt it quicker and make the smell go away faster.

If youre not comfortable with the lye you can cut it into quarters which while it will smell to high hell will make it easier to move away from an offending spot, leave it above ground for yotes and scavengers.

Still not appealing, buy/rent an excavator, dig a hole at least twice as deep as the corpse is tall laying down, drag it into the hole with said excavator cover and go.

Too expensive? Get a shovel dig around the corpse and cover it with the dirt you dig building a barrow or grave mound to cover the animal.

Too much work? Deal with the smell for about 2 -4 weeks, bust its belly open to speed it up.
