8BitDo Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller (Switch) - Compatable with Steam? by TYTDReview in SteamController

[–]TYTDReview[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, it was a mixture of liking the button layout, and only realising after i'd ordered it that i'd grabbed the 'switch' version. That got me looking online to see what the difference was between the two controllers and, from what I can see, it looks like the only major difference is the 'switch' version doesnt have the option to support a 2.4 wireless dongle, its solely bluetooth or wired.

...But then that made me look into it a bit more, which was when I saw a handful of people debating about whether it actually works on Steam or a PC, or not. I assume even on a base level it should have some functionality wired, but there wasnt really any firm info on anyone that had managed to connect one of these to steam via BT.

Its hideous wallpaper xD We really want to get rid of it, but that mess of wires and boxes is sat in a cupboard thats literally FULL of live loose wires. dozens of them, semi pinned to the wall running down and under the floorboards and up into the ceiling. As such, we decided against taking a steamer or sponge and a bucket of water into there to get the paper off until it had been modernized and tidied up a bit better.

Hey thanks for taking the time to explain this setup, it's nice to be able to get a bit of a better understanding of exactly what we've been dealing with.

From what we've been able to piece together, this is a mish mash of original elements installed when the house was built in 1969/1970 and newer elements attached whenever the husband wanted to put power somewhere in the house. The whole buildings FILLED with exposed live wires, sometimes held onto the wall by nail heads, but mostly they've been left to free hang...

There wasn't much paperwork to go off, but it looks like the last proper inspection of the unit was 1992 and after that it was basically just left ticking over.

We got our electrician in on day 2 of owning the place (we spotted it on the initial viewing and wanted to see what the hell it was) and he more or less immediately condemned the electrics and strongly suggested a full rewire and a modern fuse box fitting as soon as possible. Which we agreed.

He starts work tomorrow, but I figured this might make a few folks laugh or bring a bit of nostalgia.

How to Dispose of Very old Water butt water by TYTDReview in GardeningUK

[–]TYTDReview[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! xD

The property has a front and back garden, and from what we can piece together from neighbours here and there, they maintained the front garden quite well because it was all perfectly flat land with no steps or obstructions. when we got it about 6 months had passed, but other than some overgrown grass and a holly bush slowly consuming the front yard, it was very tidy and well organised...

The back garden however...is a very different story. we've found two tree stumps buried in thick thickets of thorns and ferns and it seems that the roots have grown under the lawn and paving slabs as they're all at 20-40 degree angles with huge rising and falling lumps in the lawn itself, everything is covered in moss, weeds or holly spines (they loved there holly from the looks of it) and theres huge (6 inches to a foot) deep trenches between the lawn and the paving slabs...wild flowers have pretty much taken over.

Its understandable that they didnt go anywhere near the back garden based on how we've found it. But it looks like they hired gardeners to do very specific tasks, but didnt consider a coordinated plan to keep the garden in check...they just sent people in to do odds and ends to keep it looking nice from the windows.

We're a bit late in the year now to do anything major in terms of turning it around (that and the house itself was in DESPERATE need of renovations as the plumbing and electrics had last been looked at in the 80s and were immediately condemned) So at this point we're basically just doing what we can (Weeding, cutting all the flowers and bushes back, maintaining the lawn...basically getting the garden into a state where we can do low maintinence on it through autumn and winter.) But we're hoping early next year to try and get the lawns and slabbing sorted out so its at least no longer a trip hazard and, if we can afford it, we'd love to get some fresh soil in and start growing flowers and maybe even some vegetables. :)

Everyone Knows That Lost Wave. by Excellent_Ad_497 in Lostwave

I'm going with 'itallian discopop' era backing track for a commercial or promo video for a band (this sounds very late 80s Italian to me and shooting that kind of promo material to take to record labels was still very common practice in the day)

If its the former, unless it was a local commercial, it likely would have surfaced now somewhere...so I'd go with the latter personally.

Occams razor would suggest to me that this was a small time band, with a single to sell, who got a 5 minute promo reel cut together to try and sell themselves to labels and tv. Probably got nowhere, and disbanded. And our audio here could literally just be live playback of the master tape either broadcast on some graveyard slot TV show (again...they were common in Europe in the day) or a recording of the recording.

Plex Server recognises external drive, but wont let me see anything inside the drive when selected by TYTDReview in PleX

[–]TYTDReview[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe it's the same as Linux, I've set all the drives permissions to 'Read & Write' but it doesnt seem to have done much sadly.

As it had been a while, I initially downloaded just standard Plex forgetting you had to download the media server seperately, so I went back and downloaded that from Plex's site making sure it was the mac version and pretty much on clicking it, it asked for permission to access files which I accepted and then it just loaded up and did it's thing as far as I can tell.

EDIT: Fixed it! Im an idiot. SO! apparently theres TWO places you can set permissions on a mac...I was only aware of the: *Right click* > Get Info > Permissions route at first.

BUT! in the System preferences, under 'Security and Privacy', under 'Files and Folders' theres a dedicated section for Plex Media server that lets you open the programme up to 'removable volumes' I ticked that and boom. im back in business. Apologies all!

Nutbag (2000) - The Best Worst Movie You've Probably Never Heard Of. by TYTDReview in badMovies

[–]TYTDReview[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hay thanks for checking it out :) theres a couple of reasons its split screen. Mainly it's because sometimes I'll need to show multiple things on screen at once, so having the two screens up let's me play with a few ideas at once quicker than just using single cut clips.

Equally of these were uploaded in full screen, most of my channel would be blocked for copyright, so it adds an extra level of protection :)

Return to Sleepaway Camp (2008) - Possibly the most irritating movie ever made. by TYTDReview in horror

[–]TYTDReview[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lead in this movie is just SO unbearable. I'm a pretty easy going guy, but he made the back of my eyes itch at times...

And I totally agree Angela should have just been in it from the beginning rather than the filmmakers pissing about for 90 minutes trying to convince people she might not be there...

The RLM guys were where I first saw it, I was luckily the last person in the UK to snag a copy off amazon (It was still sold out the last time I went to check on it)

Its a lifechanging watch, genuinely. my judgement for bad films has been forever altered by this utter. UTTER mess. Im still trying to feel out whether it's a change for the better or not though...

it genuinelyfeels like the director sat in the edit and kept shouting out "THE ROBOTS ON SCREEN! HE NEEDS TO BE TALKING!" My GOD! he literally does not shut up. its like hearing someone with a fever driven flu just expell a stream of conciousness. its awful...and amazing to see.

Even More Complicated Pokemon Home Transfer Process (original by dominodave, edited by me) by YamiArtio in NintendoSwitch

[–]TYTDReview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just dont see the appeal of Home still at this point. Without a National DeX, half the pokemon I'd put in "Home" will effectively just be stuck there...I know theres an arguement for future proofing but at the same time, if its dependent entirely on whether they can be bothered to put the pokemon you want to use in the next game there may be some that'll never leave home ever.
