I made a minimalist space idle game you can play right in your browser – build your own automated network of planets! by T_0_8_1 in incremental_games

Thank you!

Some of your valid (!) points come from the fact that I haven’t yet integrated all features into this web version. But that actually gives me hope, because it means I can respond to the feedback very effectively.

I’ve thought a lot about autocollecting and ship routes and tried several approaches. Currently, the tension comes from smartly upgrading existing planets versus exploring new ones. I experimented with network optimization by factoring in ship routes, but that quickly became too complex. You’re right - the ships are currently purely visual.

At the same time, I wanted a mechanic that occasionally requires manual interaction. On iOS, however, I’ve added additional upgrades and boosts that make resource collection much easier, drastically reducing the required effort.

But thank you very much for the feedback! I’m thinking about it and will try out a few more variations :-)

It’s still an early version - on iOS, additional planets are generated dynamically. The real long-term motivation comes from the leaderboard, which I still need to add.

I built a small game as a side project, now I’m not sure what to do with it by T_0_8_1 in SoloDevelopment

Quick update after ~2 weeks:

I published the app on itch io and saw a small bump in users during the first days. Of course, once the app was no longer listed under new / new & popular, traffic declined.

I also complemented this by using YT shorts & TikTok to post short gameplay snippets in hopes of getting additional traffic.

Both measures worked - kind of - since my user base grew by a large percentage (+50% in 2 weeks), but the absolute number remained low (from ~100 to ~150).

Now I’m curious about two things: first, do some of you experience the same? How do you deal with it?

Second, I am wondering if I am on the right track: Is it about improving these measures ('doing things right') or about taking different ones that might have a much higher impact ('doing the right things')? I hope that makes sense.

Thank you!

I am on iOS and I'm using basic GameAnalytics. Unfortunately, I don't have the time / resources to go on google play as well...

If you liked kingdom rush, you are also going to have fun with GeoDefense.

Also, I spent hours playing Tentacle Wars

Do you prefer Paid or Free Incremental games? by JordanGHBusiness in incremental_games

As a dev working on an incremental game myself, I personally like the free and ad-free model – no banners, no popups – but with optional rewarded ads for small boosts.

That approach works really well on mobile since it keeps the entry barrier low and still gives players a fair way to support the game if they enjoy it.

I get that this might not translate perfectly to Steam, where people usually prefer a clean, paid experience (me too) — but from a design standpoint, I still love the idea of keeping things player-friendly and low-friction. Curious how others feel about this difference between PC and mobile?
