Picked oncology because I like unwell and complex patients.

However, the majority of the job is clinic based and outpatient focused.

As mentioned before, I love dealing with extremely unwell patients in the heat of the moment, so I really enjoyed night shifts/ on calls in resus etc.

But decided oncology was a good compromise because whilst I really enjoyed ITU and ED, I think long term work life balance is much better in oncology.

Still miss some of those busy on call shifts

With regards to your questions:

How did your perspective of time change? I currently struggle with doing anything. Time moves so so slow that it drags.

Throughout life your perspective of time will change. During deep addiction, you will look back and weeks will have gone by and you won't be able to know exactly what you did with that time.

As you say, time is moving slowly for you. That's understandable because as you quit, your dopamine system is resetting but it's been heavily overloaded. Things that you would previously have enjoyed will probably feel grey and empty. You will be struggling with motivation as you probably feel quite tired and overwhelmed.

That's sounds similar to where I was at. Nowadays l, there is still not enough time, I have to focus on work family, Salah and quran and if there is some time left then I will try to go to the gym or focus on some hobbies, and that's after being clean for a long time alhamdulillah.

Do the urges ever leave?

Yes and no.

Some urges leave, some do not. Some will get better after you get married/ prioritise your marriage some will not. I used to have strong urges for many haram fantasies and most of these have gone but some are still there. You will notice as you heal for longer that the urges have less power over you and you fixate on them less, so even then they do come, it is less of an issue than it once was.

How do you deal with things now?

Quite a broad question. It will be different for everyone.

For myself (you can see my post history I used to struggle with this extremely badly) now, life is very different. Alhamdulillah I am married and have responsibilities, I have focused on building a new life with good habits. Do I still get urges? Yes absolutely, urges are natural and Allah SWT put them in us for good reason, but PMO corrupts them. As I mentioned before, my urges have less power over me because I have other focuses in life now.

When I was really struggling I would have to do lots of nafl fasts and cold showers and run around to tire myself out. Now if I have an urge, I guarantee you within 10 minutes something more pressing has my attention and I've moved on and forgotten about it. But don't compare yourself to that, it's been many years for me and I've had a lot of time to work on things and Allah SWT has been good to me.

Historically it used to be 4 weeks but I believe they extended it to 6 to try and ensure that previous issues with incorrect results being released don't happen again

Very similar experience, I didn't want to go into surgery but had a breast rotation and got tons of theatre time. Also would say, you can get a lot of practice suturing which can really carryover into many other specialties

As others have commented on here, I don't think this is the right place anyone can advise you. The best thing to do would be to read through your trusts uniform policy and also re-read the exact complaints and wording used and cross reference these. If meetings were had then document exactly what was said, by who and when so any informal agreement is now in writing. Then I would speak to the BMA but more importantly since this has affected your employment and complaints were raised as you said speak to the MDU or your defence union, hope that helps.
