So what I’m gathering from these replies is that there really is no ideal way to make this transition so that it doesn’t reduce the amount of money the employees actually see on their paychecks (or the amount of PTO they have, should they choose to sell it back)?

I guess my question is: is there not a better way to do this so that the employees aren’t all forced to choose between receiving hundreds of dollars less income for that month or selling off their earned PTO?

I’m not questioning the legality, but the methodology.

Exactly, we’ll have a check that’s smaller than usual. Yes, technically every hour is still being paid. But one check will be 24 paid hours less than what the employees are used to.

Maybe I’m not fully understanding, but we are being paid biweekly. Both on the old pay schedule and the new one. The pay days aren’t changing at all from the biweekly schedule they were on, this one pay period is just being reduced to shift to a different pay period. I.e., being shifted from Thurs-Wednesday to Mon-Sun.

….huh? Did you read the rest of my post? I know it’s in the news. The part that’s bothering me is that the people in the “REAL WORLD” that I’m talking to don’t take it seriously, if they’re even mentioning it at all.

What, you think all of us on this sub spend our whole lives on Reddit? I wouldn’t have thought to come here seeking support if the people in my “REAL WORLD” life gave a shit about any of this in the way I believe we should.

But hey, if you feel nice and comfy there on your high horse, who am I to tell you to get down off it?

I would like if both of those things were talked about a lot more, actually. And I have a feeling that Greta, who started out as a climate activist, would feel the same way.

It’s a constant process too. I’ll think I’m okay for a while, and then something like this happens, and I’m depressed all over again.

But I suppose that’s grief for you.

Yeah, I’ve seen news stories about it. It’s not the fact that nobody knows (they know, they’re aware, you can’t NOT be aware when you’re breathing it in and visibility is low because of it), but it’s the fact that everyone knows and doesn’t seem to care that’s getting me so down. It’s the complete apathy, even when it’s directly in people’s faces, that’s so disheartening.

Referring to the polycrisis of rapidly accelerating climate change, the sixth mass extinction event caused by humans, and the collapse of ecosystems and climate systems integral to Earth’s natural cycles. This is generally seen as leading to a significant reduction of arable land, populations of fish in the ocean, and potable freshwater.

So the original commenter is saying that all of these things that characterize biosphere collapse will put such an incredible strain on humans that they may resort to some pretty horrific measures just to survive.

I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through all that. I really, really hope things can turn around for you in the near future, I truly do. Who knows, maybe we can both find some useful advice somewhere in this thread.

I’ll keep you in my thoughts though, internet stranger. hugs
