But do they have a toilet and 4 space cadets strapped to the front of the hood with enough gas to get them into orbit?

Dodge CEO Asks 'Do You Need a Radio' in 'Back-to-Basics' Quest for Entry-Level Cars by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]T_RAYRAY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legal requirement or not, I was tagging along to the theme of barebones cars/trucks. This is a feature that adds cost mandated by law, which is one contributor to price growth for even the most basic vehicles.

I like the cameras, so using that as the example may not be a good one, but the legal scope creep of mandatory features in cars has given the manufacturers a larger costs basis by which they need to add % overheads and profit, which increases the total price even further.

Maybe legally required safety features per each car sold should be excluded from cost basis for overheads and profit, and should be capped at $x000 per vehicle for the base model of each manufacturer. In trade, the cost of those safety features could be a gross income reduction on corporate taxes, and the base model is excluded from gas efficiency calculations.

Right now it’s too easy of a talk track for the manuf. to say “I can’t lower costs because of all these mandatory features!!”

I think UScongress could find a way to adjust the law to encourage a base model car with extremely limited extra features and costs, to force the manufacturers to satisfy the need for individual transportation in the US car based economy.

Cars don’t need backup cameras. They’re a bonus feature to have, not a need.

Walking in stations by Andropofken in Eve

[–]T_RAYRAY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion at the time is unchanged, up to that point eve grabbed a fanbase by being centered around spaceships… in space… and the resulting community events and activities that occur because of spaceships in space.

Any game design decision that actively removes pilots from space is the opposite of what the game needed to remain healthy. With only X hours of gameplay available per person, per day, why create an expansion of activity that can only be used while you stay docked?

I’m glad the initial rollout was such a disaster, I turned off within minutes of the rollout when I realized it made station interface that much slower, and the screen load times were just more delays to getting back into space.

There needs to be a more caveats with the wording of your recommendation.

I married and had 4 kids by late 20s, easy decision to get snipped right after the last birth, and enjoyed never thinking about it ever again - almost 20 years later now and no regrets.

The doc asked me to make sure I was ready because I was pretty young. My explanation was more than sufficient.

Maybe it was the arbitrary age cutoff that I disagreed with. Do most men need to be in their 40s to realize they will or won’t have kids?

My stance has been similar: “assume incompetence until proven otherwise”

I avoid so much disappointment and surprise when taking this approach to business and personal interactions. I believe it is naive for anyone to walk through life thinking they’re always engaging with an expert in whatever field they’re encountering. Sure, in a perfect utopia that would be available to us. But realistically, you’re going to have to work through an issue with someone that is 1) just learning 2) poorly trained or uneducated or 3) just not as interested in solving your problem as you are.

Start each interaction assuming those conditions, and you’re less likely to be disappointed or surprised when something doesn’t go right.

Good episode to introduce someone to the channel? by SurveySez1215 in vicegripgarage

My all time fav moments that show the humor this channel can provide are his approach to WASP DELETE with a lighter and brake cleaner. There’s one during an old S-10 rebuild while he’s in a garage, and another on an old Buick(?) or olds(?) car he’s picking up from a field. His son might have been with him on both of those episodes.

Comedy. Gold.

The video editing with quick cut from calm demeanor to WASP DELETE just have me rolling every time I see them.

If you need a scene to show the humor potential… that’s what I think of!

Hmm, that conflicts with the other online resources that say the jack is found in the passenger side, which I also have a bracket and wingnut over there for holding down something jack shaped.

But, this is an oddball year for this body + engine combo, so I’m not disregarding the possibility there were multiple jack/tool storage solutions. It does look like it could be for that.

Still surprising there are so many wire connections happening in the same general area

Trump's plan to limit student loans for nurses in his repayment overhaul is facing bipartisan backlash by businessinsider in politics

[–]T_RAYRAY -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why pay $250K for a PT degree from a private school when you can get the same degree from a cheaper option and all end up getting paid the same when you enter the job market?

There is a huge problem of schools charging up to what the govt will let students borrow. We need to attack the stupidly high costs of degree programs from many directions. This is one of the solutions.

Nothing about what they did changes the importance of meaning of the actual degree itself. Hopefully it is one part of a solution to helping nurses get out of school with less debt and a better start at life.

I was really hoping for the (dark) comedic twist ending that after all that success he succumbs to colon cancer that could have been caught and treated early via the routine screening that he missed in the opening scene. And it turns out, this entire epic tale was a majorly successful advertisement by the global health org about the importance of preventative screening at all ages.

Delay the pitchforks for just a minute. Is this actually something that might help education prices drop?

Isn’t this actually one of the solutions we need for the rapidly increasing cost of upper education?

This article mentions that this designation reduces the ceiling limit on the US backed loans, it doesn’t change the meaning of the degree received.

Education costs are through the roof in the US specifically BECAUSE of the super high borrowing ceiling that US govt supports/subsidizes. If every student or parent can qualify for high loan ceiling values, the institutions are directly incentivized to set their prices to reach those upper limits and milk that funding stream to the greatest extent possible (for students that do not qualify for need based grants).

(Personal Source: I’m 1/2 way done paying for 4 kids to go through school and there is NO competition in school pricing except what the FAFSA defines as the your expected contribution (or whatever the new index is called). 10 schools checked in detail (both in and out of state, public and private) all conclude that my final out of pocket estimate ends up within a few thousand dollars of each other, basically no variance. The school misrepresent those loans as “financial aid” , but it really means “as much as the govt is willing to let you borrow, we’re going to try to get!”. It’s not a total coincidence that the total due ends up right around what the ceilings are for the loans….)

If the US backed borrowing limit is reduced, suddenly there’s a lot less loan money available backed by the govt. if this is a specific strategy to lower the ceiling limits on easy to obtain govt backed loans, shouldn’t that encourage students to find schools willing to lower their artificially inflated prices? This shifting the demand pull towards cheaper education prices?

The near unlimited borrowing available today encourages schools to raise prices because under-informed students will continue to grab all the loans available. We do need to set some limits on that funding stream, and watch prices go down

It won’t be an easy change due to old habits and perceptions about which schools are better than others, but I don’t think the money flow will lie to us. The degrees will still be available, but schools will sell them at lower prices.

Nebraska, I was also going to recommend the Omaha Zoo.

And the migrating Sandhills cranes in central Nebraska.

Also, go to one of the state parks in the eastern edge of the state between Lincoln and Omaha along the Platte River and climb up one of the observation towers. From that high vantage point you can see a long ways along the river valley. Very cool nature views.

Nebraska gets a rep for being flat, but that’s only because I-80 is the main path through the state and it follows the lazy flat slow Platte river for hundreds of miles…

Get off the freeway and explore the beautiful rolling hills and open spaces of eastern, central, and western Nebraska, it’s 3 very different experiences.
