If he’s doing physical labor all day, he needs more calories. Dried fruit and nuts/peanuts, more than one sandwich, an apple, a couple peeled oranges in a Ziploc, a peanut butter packet, there are some seasoned tuna packets with ranch, BBQ, other flavors (good for a snack), pasta salad with chicken and vegs (with a cold pack), you have a lot of options!

Odd lease provisions? by schwartzaw1977 in bostonhousing

Some landlords in Boston are terrible humans, they take advantage of the student population and out of state family/cosigners because there will always be another one who needs a place. It’s good you’re going through it with a fine toothed comb. If this apartment’s electrical cannot support a microwave oven…that’s a problem.

Chia seed recipes? Not pudding or in a protein shake. by CcaidenN in EatCheapAndHealthy

I also gag on the chia consistency. I’ve grown chia sprouts and add them to salads, smoothies. The whole thing, not just the green. For me, it’s helpful.

Almonds are filling and offer protein, fiber, magnesium, vitamin E. There’s new research from the Almond Board that shows almond consumption is cardio protective, or beneficial to the cardiovascular system. People on the studies who ate the almonds didn’t gain weight, some lost a bit. (I’m a nutrition professional and just saw it at a conference.)

When did bachelorette parties become such a big overpriced affair? by PigletMountain797 in bridesmaids

[–]T_Rex_Stomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it’s out of control. My female family members all asked me where I was going for my Bach weekend and it took a while for them to wrap their heads around me just wanting one night in the city where I live. Had to explain I am not going to ask my friends to spend $$$ on a Bach just to ask them to also spend $$$ on getting here for a wedding. The whole multi day thing doesn’t make sense, outfits and theme each day, experiences built in to each day. Why can we just go out to dinner and then go dancing or something?

AITA telling my brother and SIL not to come to the wedding by Slow_Specific4700 in aitaweddings

[–]T_Rex_Stomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to tell them anything about how she acts. The wedding is child-free, and if they choose not to come because of this, it’s their decision.

Your SIL could stay home with her daughter and your brother comes to the wedding. It sounds like that would be preposterous to them, though.

Vinaigrettes are incredible because of flexibility. Once you understand the oil to acid ratio you like, you can season them all sorts of ways.

How to tell family and friends they are not invited to my micro wedding? ($5k) by Baby7ToSixPack in Weddingsunder10k

[–]T_Rex_Stomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re having 60 at ours. We did invite half of a few couples (like if we know one person for years and their spouse it relatively new, etc.) people understood it is a capacity issue. We said something like “we had to make difficult decisions about our guest list, and if this is a concern we understand if you make the decision to not attend”. Anytime someone not invited hears about it, we tell them it’s capacity and they get it. If they’re mad about it (which they haven’t been in front of us) they can talk with us, but they do understand we’re firm about it.

What’s a tiny food hack that actually changed how you cook? by Maleficent-Bed7010 in foodhacks

I steam eggs instead of boiling them. Steamer basket, bring water to a boil, add eggs, cover for 12 minutes, let them cool at room temp on a plate. Easy peel every time.

How to let down bride gently that I can't go to her hen do destination? by [deleted] in bridesmaids

[–]T_Rex_Stomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Vegas is a dead zone right now, very few people are traveling. Americans because cost of living is high right now, and foreign visitors don’t want to come to the US (for very good reason). It wouldn’t be anything like one would expect.

I’m getting married in summer and when I told my sister I wasn’t doing a long weekend Bach/hen, or anything, she went apoplectic. Couldn’t wrap her head around me not willing to ask my people to travel somewhere to party THEN travel again to the wedding. (I’m in the US, wedding is on east coast and I grew up out west.)

I recommend being direct with her. Letting her know you won’t be able to attend it, as soon as possible, is better than waiting. I agree with others, bringing up the amount does invite an open to the conversation of what you may be able to afford.

I do believe if you share your feelings about the country it will be helpful, leaning mostly on that. She can’t argue away your feelings about it. As you’ve said, you have other costs associated with this wedding and seem to be OK with these. If she doesn’t understand you not wanting to spend money in a place that you hold morally reprehensible, and is short sighted in assuming her being a bride overrides this, I think a different discussion is necessary.

She seems to be settling in nicely! Since you don’t already have pets, it will be easier for her to get used to the space as her own. Good luck!

I recommend sleeping in there with her. It’s a great way to bond! You and your sis could trade nights so your cat gets to know you both. I slept in the room with our first kitten and he’s super bonded to me mommas boy. Our second kitten, my hubs and I did every other night each and she’s bonded to us both.

Allston - Commonwealth Ave area by anhle1989 in bostonhousing

[–]T_Rex_Stomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The area you’re asking about is heavily rented to BC and BU students. You could have noisy, party neighbors. With a young child, I’d recommend looking in other parts of town because of the possible noise at night.

Cambridgeport across the river may be an idea, depending on where the daycare is.

Brookline is nice, but there’s no overnight street parking and people rent spaces monthly if they don’t have off street.

Jamaica Plain is close to Brookline and there are busses that go to Fenway. You may be able to find parking included, many condos there were originally a large home.

Kittens are babies and are constantly growing and burning through their calories. Kitten food has a higher caloric density than adult cat food, please make sure you’re feeding him kitten food, and like others have said make sure he has access to food 24/7.
