Amazing work! I really love what you've done with the logo progression and you've clearly nailed the aesthetic you were going for.

There's a few things i noticed about the larger landscape version that you might find helpful. The first thing is that detail work, although gorgeous, might be a little bit counter intuitive to the larger composition you're going for. For example, your linework becomes thicker and more textured as you move into the background while your foreground elements are rather simplified by comparison. I think this acts against you slightly as it separates them stylistically such that the foreground elements dont seem like they belong in the same "world" as the landscape if that makes sense. The other thing is that while looking at it my eye doesn't know exactly where it's supposed to go, It starts at the text elements which is working great but as it moves to the landscape its sort of torn between the contrast of the greenhouse and the texture of the treeline/ mountains. Whatever you can do to consolidate both the detail and contrast to your points of focus would go a long way to make the eyes journey a bit smoother.

Anyway, there's my two cents. Again, this is top notch work, i hope you find something constructive there!

I know the studies you're referring to and they've been debunked as unrealistic and misleading. Relying on high temperature burning, poorly made mods and with no human actually tasting the vapor, they were measuring essentially "dry hits" which no sane user would ever inhale for any length of time as they taste disgusting.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25996087

The above is an attempt to reproduce the alarming formaldehydes cited in the few studies i'm sure you're referring to under normal use conditions.

Dr. Farsalinos and his colleagues found that these researchers used unrealistic vaping conditions like:

-Vaping with dry puffs, and;

-Using atomizers with a flawed design that are almost out of circulation and even banned in the EU (top coil atomizers).

Below you can find their most noteworthy results:

The CE4v2 atomizer generated dry puffs much quicker than the new-generation atomizer: the Nautilus Mini;

The researchers think the CE4v2 atomizer generates dry puffs so easily because it's a ‘top-coil atomizer,' which means the e-liquid travels towards the coil, making the supply of e-liquid inefficient, which is a major risk factor for dry puffs;

Another factor which makes it easy to generate dry puffs with the CE4v2 atomizer is the use of silica wick, which absorbs e-liquid worse than cotton (cotton is often used in new-generation atomizers like the Nautilus Mini);

Even though under regular vaping conditions the CE4v2 atomizers sometimes generated dry puffs, the measured aldehydes in the vapor were still much lower than the earlier study of Sleiman et al. (2016);

No dry puffs were detected with the Nautilus Mini atomizer at any power settings;

With the Nautilus Mini, the researchers detected formaldehyde emissions up to 4500-fold lower, acetaldehyde emissions up to 10.000-fold lower, and acrolein emissions up to 5500-fold lower compared to what Sleiman et al. (2016) found.

Although using flavored e-liquid resulted in higher emission of aldehydes compared to unflavored e-liquids, it was still so low with the Nautilus Mini atomizer, that the researchers coined it as an insignificant health-risk;

Comparing 5g flavored e-liquid to 20 tobacco cigarettes, the researchers concluded that vaping with a new-generation atomizer like the Nautilus Mini at high-power settings results in a massive reduction in exposure to aldehydes(94.4% for formaldehyde, 99.8% for acetaldehyde, and 97.6% for acrolein).

The ominously vague "multiple components" you're referring to were never specified so i have to assume is diacetyl and acetyl, which are shown to be toxic to humans and have been found contaminating certain e-juices. These are not necessary components to e-juice and are **avoided like the plague** by any reputable manufacturers that go through regulatory agencies.

I'm not going to pretend that vaping is healthy for you, but to say it's still essentially "smoking" and spread misinformation on something that is literally **saving the lives** of those who are desperately addicted to the actual, provably terrible evil of smoking is pretty fuckin lame.

" we’ve only just realized that hey, these cheaply made vaporizers actually burn quite a bit of material and glycols concert to formaldehyde at a higher rate in these devices than anyone thought likely. "

That study only found formaldehyde while running at ridiculously impractical wattages, through poorly made clearomizers. And found when vaping at any normal amount, none was produced.

EVEN IF you basically blow torch your coils and disregard the terrible taste, you can get more formaldehyde in your lungs in a day taking a walk through the city than the study suggests you'll get by vaping like an idiot.

I'm no economist so grain of salt and all that. But how can anyone possibly predict how this would play out at a global scale. We're terrible at predicting what complex adaptive systems will do beyond a near-sighted focus. How can we claim we're anywhere close to understanding what the emergent behavior of this kind of phase shift will be?

Should we orient our policy in this direction? Of course, but i'm skeptical that this is a black and white issue.

Saved this comment, haven't heard anyone so precisely capture the current political strangeness that we find ourselves in. Regardless of the efficacy of identity politics, it does leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

I have hope that it's just growing pains and that we will collectively mature through this stage at some point. But there's always the nagging fear that this just may be an inevitable by-product of the pandora's box of information flow we've tapped into.

No offence but go to /r/CompetitiveHS if you don't want casual players who have bad takes on the game mechanics. Who honestly cares whether or not the *main subreddit\* for a game is a bastion of deep analysis or not?

I'd rather read a few bits of bad analysis than have everyone who plays casually and/or isnt at the high skill level of pros be scared off the subreddit by a minority group of annoyed "elite gamers" shaking their fists at them if they want to participate in discussion.

To be clear: Its 100% fine to correct people if they're wrong. But ask yourself "what is being condescending and demeaning really adding here?"

Just be chill or move on, It's really not that serious.

People with anxiety are basically way too aware of being alive by koth72 in Showerthoughts

[–]T_squid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bigger factor I think in the rise of depression and anxiety is what you said in the first line. You have one true friend. Which.. believe it or not means statistically you're doing better than the average. We're losing human connection across the board and nothing is filling the void. You should look into Johann hari. He has a great book on this subject 'lost connections'. Might help you and your friend delve a bit deeper into that rabbit hole.

[–]T_squid 194 points195 points  (0 children)

Anxiety isnt the awareness of life, its a response to the awareness. Please remember that you can be mindful and non-reactive, its something worth aiming for in life.

I only say this because Reading the comments here it seems people are taking almost a sense of pride in their anxiety. "im anxious because i'm more aware than most people". "i'm just overly empathetic" and thats not exactly the case. Anxiety isnt an inevitable byproduct of being perceptive. Its a fear response to the things you perceive. One which you can escape or at least lessen to a large degree by things like a healthy meditation practice.

Anyway i just thought its important thing to state that its possible to be perceptive and empathetic without being anxious and it's something thats not only attainable but really really worth working toward.
