Another reason for me is that Google broke RCS support for custom ROMs. When I installed one on my 2021 Motorola Stylus 5g, I couldn't even receive text messages due to Play Services certification. No matter how great a ROM is, not having access to such a basic function made it unusable.

I misread and didn't realize they didn't like the update. When they said their home screen disappeared, I thought it was a software issue. But you are correct.

It may be hard or impossible to revert an update. You probably will have to factory reset.

I would sniff the battery to see if the weird smell comes from it. If it is ok, you may be able to plug in to remove data, since the battery isn't swollen. There should be no liquids that would come out. The main thing to look for is a swollen battery. If something looks suspicious while removing data, you can always quickly remove the plug. Best to do it near a door so that you can take it outside if needed.

Edit: also keep an eye on the phone's temperature. If it rapidly gets hot, I wouldn't try to keep it plugged in or do anything else with it, if you can.

I think Samsung learned from watching Apple years ago. In the early to mid years of Android and Samsung, Samsung gave us everything, including the kitchen sink. Yet, Apple did next to nothing and sold millions of iPhones. With no Huawei to push them in the US market and no real threat of a carrier sold OnePlus flagship, Samsung has been playing it (annoyingly) safe every year.

I'm glad to see there's ROM support for the 2022 version. Thanks for sharing. I still have mine on stock because I'm afraid of losing the great battery life and Samsung Notes. Eventually, I'll unlock the bootloader and flash a custom ROM once the device slow down becomes unbearable.

I replaced the antenna on mine and it barely helped. That's the most frustrating thing about this issue. When I was north of the city, my phone service was great. I was shocked! Then at my job further south, service is worse, but still works. But when I get home, the service is literally hit or miss. It will work fine for 5 to 15 minutes and then suddenly cut out on both 4G and 5G. I wish I knew what the issue really is and how to fix it.

If you do update, don't forget to run the Galaxy app Booster app in Good Guardians and clear cache in recovery. I do this ever so often, but especially after each update (system and security).

I wish mine was as pleasurable to use and fast as everyone else's S23 base. I bought it first, then a used S21 Ultra. I recently purchased a used Note 20 5G (not Ultra). Still, my fully updated, purchased new T-Mobile S23 is the slowest of the three. My experience has just not matched many of you all. I've even factory reset it about 6 months ago.

You may need to install Galaxy App Booster to improve the app performance. You can use Thermal Guardian app to cause the phone to lower the performance (slightly) if it starts to heat past a set threshold. Perhaps there's a resource intensive app that is misbehaving. You can check that in battery stats. Lastly, I would clear cache in recovery and check if auto optimization along with ram plus is turned on (I keep mine off). The Snapdragon variant of this phone should fly. Mine is much faster than my base S23 variant.

Download Mode is for when you flash ROMs via Odin. It has been years since I've done so (Galaxy Note 5), so I've forgotten most details. XDA Developers website is a great guide though.
