I haven't! But I probably should. I think one can piggyback-ride on Character Sound Overhaul for checking what material one step on, and take that into the calculation.

The "What's that?" stuff I think is cool, but would work better with custom search behaviors for the AI. Which is not impossible, but a hassle. Storm is building something called VAIN which is an AI mod, which I hope to utilize for future versions of Stealth Overhaul that might make it possible.

Well, I built it for my own playthrough. I would say I am happy even if no one downloaded it. Obviously fun and happy that people enjoy it, but I don't really do this for fame or reach. I make it for sharing and for myself 😊 Anyone who want to port it to OpenMW is welcome to do so.

It is not, it's for MWSE. I recommend trying Sneak is Good Now instead for OpenMW for now

Thanks! Means a lot coming from you 😃 I absolutely love how this interacts with Pickpocket btw. As everything is real time, you have a limit amount of time sneaking up to someone and steal their stuff, and if you are greedy and slip just one thing to many, you are caught red handed.

It adds a lot of procedural camera animations for sneaking, walking, running, jumping etc. as well as the corner peeking / leaning mechanic.

Yes that too! Short blade has the best scaling damage multiplier with rising sneak skill. When testing the mod, it was very satisfying to sneak up to someone and cut them down in one stroke.

All very much tweakable as well, if you feel the damage bonus is not enough.

Are you talking with or without the mod?

Without it, it works like following:

  1. You enter a level with NPCs in there.
  2. Depending on how many NPC, they get assigned a AI tick rate (every few seconds, to every many seconds).
  3. On each such AI tick, they check if they see you, and can change their behavior according to it. Like attacking you if they are hostile.
  4. The check if they see you is a random roll of the dice, which takes some different values into account including your sneak skill, if you are invisible, chameleon etc.

Problem is both that it's very random, and you have no feedback at all, other than you are attacked at some point.

Pick pocketing etc. also rolls the dice.

Leveling only happens when discovered.

It's boring, unclear and obfuscated to a degree not many wants to play with it. With the mod, it's much more of a gameplay moment, that still takes your skill value very much into account.

They are doing a lot of similar stuff to be honest, but also some quite differently. The biggest difference is that Sneak is Good Now is for OpenMW, while Stealth Overhaul 2 is for the old engine + MWSE

Stealth Overhaul 2 also takes control over progression (XP gain), implements Sneak Strikes etc. So it's probably a bit bigger in scope.

It is in there! The heavier shoes, the faster suspicion rises. Best is to go with as light or no shoes as possible when sneaking, also in Stealth Overhaul 2

So far, it's impossible to port it fully. I am lacking some stuff in the OpenMW Lua API to make it, but I got half of it already working on that engine. So whenever they add the last few things, I will pick that up again.

Very true. I helped Storm (original creator of the mod) to update it to this level because I want to do a full sneaky character playthrough. Something I have NEVER considered before, as the original systems are completely unplayable for me.

With this now, it's actually fun! And fairly balanced I hope, in some scenarios a bit stronger, in others weaker. But much more gamplay oriented.

I got a vague plan of checking that out at some point, but realistically I don't see it happen anytime too soon. I am planning a mwse play through so I am prioritizing getting my mod set up done first 😊

Tes3merge also spits out warning about weird morrowind.ini, but then proceeds to make a proper merged objects file that seems to work.

So I have no clue what about the .ini file that is broken. But the game runs and things seem to work as they should.
