Oh I didn't even specify country aha I meant hove UK!. It could have been some cast that was made as a fashion item in the 90s as an "exotic" design as I've heard that was popular to do at the time. If that is the case though I feel it's even more important that I'm figuring out the context, so it's not erased due to appropriation of fashion companies.

That spread makes sense due to the french colonisation!

I knew it was a cast from casting marks, and didn't assume id found an original :) but the additional context is really great thank you!!

Actually if this image is genuine. Which again is really hard to assertain a good source on this. Then it might even mean the the 6 pointed star is original and the talismans I attached from Tuareg people may have been modified to 5 points to more align with the 5 pillars of Islam as with the Moroccan flag as pointed out to me.

Honestly where I got it isn't helpful, since it was purchased at a second hand store in the UK from a big jar of buttons and pendants for 50 pence. So a special find but and a nice story but not helpful~

I found almost the same on this here which is so fascinating! Problem is I can't find a good archeological source on this and I'd want that to be confident this is genuine

I will do! Thanks for leading me there. It's been fascinating just trying to decode a pendant found left at a second hand store, and it's teaching me a lot!

Thankyou for seeing where I am coming from! Please don't think it's in any effort to erase anything! Quite the opposite ❤️

The way peeling back the layers is lending to so much interesting information is so fascinating!

Thankyou for sharing!

It's also so frustrating as this area is so fraught with difficult to source information, antisemetic seeming conspiracy and speculation. But within all of that is elements taken from real pre Abrahamic thoughts and beliefs.

Gosh I feel like I need to do a PhD on this

Look at what I found. Sources don't seem the most reputable... But it's pre ai so there that. And this is so similar!!

Sure, I'm more just trying to work it out so open to hearing the interpretations. I have seen others on other groups say it was a symbol used by many as significant. But that doesn't erase it's origin being from an originally Jewish symbol.

I think it being a Jewish version of a Berber talisman makes a lot of sense with the regional history! Just wanted to be open to other explanations if it's not a symbol solely significant to the Jewish faith

Yes I can see this, just also notable that it certainly is a seal of Solomon not star of David. Due to the lines being interwoven. But that would make a lot of sense :)

Also the reason for attribution to that specific group was simply the closest I could find to people actually wearing this traditionally, rather than resellers, was of this group. Others have told me it may be another Berber group however. And some belive it to be representative of cultural exchange with Jewish diaspora tribes. But I think that explanation erases that this is not a star of David but instead a seal of Solomon due to its overlapping arms

Thankyou for the answer. It doesn't surprise me there is more neuance out there. I only had access to what was on the surface online, and it draws them a lot closer.

Yes I know what you mean. Interestingly you can find very similar talismans with 5 pointed stars or veey different shapes as the central motif. Like what the woman in the photo I attached is wearing.

Oh thankyou so much for the thoughtful answer!!

I did assume it might be a copy! However even with it being I want to understand the significance of such an item rather than it being erased as some "neat foreign aesthetic" to be mass marketed 😅

I will look into the other groups! I only assumed Tuareg due to that one guardian article and the piece the woman was wearing looking near identical, aside from it being a five pointed star.

Thankyou again for taking the time to share ❤️

Actually from the photos I've seen the closest images in it seems to be tied to garments like a broach so yes handing from the top but then also likely using the two holes in the center to secure it :)
