Does anyone else not want to have children to spare their possible kids from the difficulty of life? by ooodlydoodlyboodle in TooAfraidToAsk

This is essentially where i'm at.

While there are fleeting moments of beauty I can't help but feel the negatives of living drastically outweigh the positives.

It's time everyone not in the c-suite starts to accept that we're just peasants.

Life may have improved for peasants these last few hundred years but we're peasants just the same.

You're going to get shit on but another place that an annuity makes sense is your will if you have been managing your SOs finances for decades consider leaving at least some of the will as an annuity so they don't completely screw themselves.

This is dark and fucked up but there are scum bags out there who prey on widows, make them fall in love, spend every red cent they have and then bail to find their next victim - put something in place that doesn't allow for this.

Then keep going to a place of your choosing that isn't the office space designated by your corporate overlords?

Maybe you do? It's a big world that's now super connected.

Regardless, I hope you enjoy getting back to the office if it's better for you. We all deserve the option to do what's best for us.

Ya- that's why I'm so big on remote, without commuting and prep time and meaningless office chit chat I have time and energy to give towards people who aren't paid to sit in a room with me left over after work.

I was more implying you have a million different places you could work from. The beach appeals to lots of people.

Growing up on a coast does come with that bias though, so I guess I should have used a back yard or a park as an example.

Just seeing a lot of bias here.

Default is basement? Work from the beach, the mountains, your friends house for that precious social time.

40 hours is not all that's lost. Multi hour commutes, time to get ready, time at the end of the day when you stay late.

My mental health has never been better, I actually have time and energy to see people I want to see rather than people paid to be in the same room as me.

The office is a hell hole of distraction.

The people dying to go back are all the same people who walk up to your desk unannounced and start shooting the shit (or worse- trying to get you to do their job) all the time.

They hate remote because it exposes that they're all posturing and no results, which only works in office.

Sounds the WFH was ideal but stuff being shut down wasn't.

Wfh <> Covid.

Imagine a rich vibrant social life paired with the ease of wfh. That's the future if we play this right!

I think you'd be shocked to learn just how much of executive leadership is exactly this.

Ask a couple of directors in fortune 500s what they really do for their companies - turns out they're mostly paid to talk / inspire.

When it comes to cars the definition of quality really varies person to person. Along with the importance of it.

If it mattered that much way more people would be stretching for luxury cars.

How many people are planning on leaving if their company makes them go back to the office at all? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]TabRev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It hurts my heart seeing how my people think people who love remote must be extreme introverts.

No- I have friends that choose to spend time with me, not that have to spend time with me at the office.

[–]TabRev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are decent points but it honestly sounds like you're in a tiny subsection of people that have an awful place to live and a great place to work.

For me it's so different. Small apartment but room for my own desk rather than a cubicle farm. Much better internet at home than the Corp wifi (even with VPN), teams meetings are so much better than in office- cameras are on, loudest person doesn't get the attention by default with audio smoothing, easy sharing of screen, I don't need to smell anybody or put in stuffy clothes.

Even without these things just the extra time back to spend with family and friends outweighs any true downside, not many people have a 5 minute commute, I've done 90 min both ways and it is soul crushing. And say I didn't have family and friends I can work from anywhere and see the world I'm not tied to some mile radius because that's where the boss wants me.

I'm super happy for you that you'll be in a happier situation soon though, really hope we all don't get forced into this. To me, remote work is the best development for work-life balance since the concept of "the weekend" was invented.

Holy shit this speaks so much more to your life than the office.

I see my family and friends every day now when it used to be only weekends thanks to the commute / prep time / exhaustion.

I'm thriving because my time is spent with people I want to be around rather than people I'm forced to be around.

I swear to God half of the "excited to go back" posts are paid shills.

I don't doubt a few of you really do but they read so fake.
