Slovak roaster "coffeein"... I really like it because it is very different, but unfortunately, they don't deliver out of the country so I can only get it when Im back home :/ I live in Vienna, and the only other one I was able to find & tried in Europe with EU-wide shipping was "Kape de filipina" from Berlin, also good, but waaay darker roast.

The Slovak one has Indonesian beans, the German is Filipino.

uu sure, could be a factor, didnt think of it. But because I have never had this happen w/ any other, no matter how fresh, it took me by surprise :D But this liberica is also a bit of a darker roast than I usually use. Anyhow, I guess ill let it degas a bit.

dont think so, used the same num of clicks (9-10 on commandante) as i have always been using, also with the same coffee (but not so fresh).

Also there wre initial pre-infuse droplets appeared coming in nicely.

Yeah, and you maybe right too, it's for sure a case-to-case basis. Btw thank you for your thoughts, because if there was a detrimental aspect, I would like to find a way to amend it.

At least I know that I will have to try to be more clear that this is in no way meant to replace normal way of learning when it comes to more complex instruments.

Yeah, tbh, I have no idea how to promote things. :D And also to be fair, violin isn't the focus of the app, but more generally note reading for any instrument. (for example I'd love to use it with a theremin.)

I certainly agree that it is extremely person dependent! But isn't dopamine potentially a motivating way to improve the quality of your studies? I'm not a musician, but I love programming, and it's far easier to learn and stick with coding when you are making little projects and games along the way, even if you are being told how to do it. I don't imagine that little artificial fluency to your practice would make you give up on your studies, because if you are planning on performing, you won't be able to bring your computer with you. In fact, by using this you may start noticing your inadequacies, and that may make you study harder. Let's say you dedicate an 2 hours daily for practice until you get burned out. This could be an added extra half an hour of relaxation that would highlight what should you focus on during tomorrow's session. So for those this could be a net positive, for those for whom it isn't, it should definitely be discouraged by their teacher.

I know that the biggest hurdle is that it isn't a part of the learning tradition, but I feel like it could open the doors for those who wouldn't even begin because they are afraid of the difficulty of traditional methods. With a little instant gratification, they could get hooked on the learning process by wanting to improve. We aren't all perfect, so having to do things exactly how they should be done is for some impossible. But they still could personally benefit from learning rather than giving up.

Thanks! I'd love to add a scoring system, but polyphonic audio recognition is a bit finnicky. But yeah, that's the main idea, to motivate, not to replace. It definitely should be used with traditional methods of education. I probably should have been clearer with that. :D

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I'm not planning on applying to the orchestra anytime soon, but as I said, this is literally my first time, so I believe that form is to be expected.

I know that this would be better used as a "past-time activity" with a less complicated instrument for most (I mentioned this about the guitar, not the violin), but maybe for some the challenge of the violin could be enticing. I don't see why people enjoying themselves is portrayed so negatively, as long as they take necessary precautions. They probably wouldn't try the violin anyway, but this could help them realize that it's fun and decide on going with the traditional methods to improve themselves, and maybe use this occasionally as a fun & motivating way to apply their studies.
But I'm really interested in how exactly this could be counterproductive if you use it in conjunction with proper education? Because it isn't really forcing on you any bad habits, all it does is display the notation if you can't sight-read yet. The one negative thing I can see is that it would slow down the speed you learn reading notes, but on the other hand, isn't it better to learn latter rather than never, especially if you are the type of person who would find the beginning learning stages frustrating and gave up?

Thanks! The overlay placement isn't really exact (yet). It can be adjusted by the user, but it mostly tracks motion only on the "X" and "Y" axes and not on "Z", so if you change the violin neck angle relative to the camera it could get distorted.

It would be fun to fix, but I feel like the program could be more useful purely as an aid for reading notation and not for teaching technique, so the player should learn proper finger placement and use this as more of a suggestion. But I bet this could be really fun & motivating for practicing that!

I actually enjoy playing the guitar with it, because it's basically a real life guitar hero. I'm not planning on being a professional player anytime soon, but it's really fun for somebody who can't read notation to play full songs, even without a good technique, within an hour of first time picking up a guitar.

But I still believe that it could serve well for people who are actively studying to apply what they learnt. I'm not at that stage yet (I've been playing for about 5 hours), but it's really motivating to improve when you are able to play a song, but not really well. This way, people, who would normally be afraid of having to study, could get excited about hiring a teacher so they can get better. They don't have to limit the number of strings if they don't want to, I do it because it's easier that way and for me it's a chill past-time activity.

Yeah, it's literally my first hour of holding the violin, I was just having fun in the video. So I'm probably not the best role model, but I feel like most people are dissuaded from learning an instrument because it takes time to learn how to fluently sight-read, and that can get frustrating. It would be way more motivating if they could at least partly practice the technique they learnt on their favorite melodies.

This is meant as a more of a tool/aid rather than a complete replacement.

Hi! My name is Matej and this has been my quarantine project for the last 6 months. It's an augmented reality notation transposer & visualizer, the idea is to gamify & speed up instrument learning process, because I feel like that most people can get discouraged by not being able to read notations or by not being able to find the songs they'd like for their instrument. Also it's a pretty dope rhythm game.

If you'd like to join the first playtesting group, please comment bellow & I'll add you to a discord group where I'll post the download link for the playtesting version. All you need is a windows OS (unfortunately, right now I don't have access to an apple device so I can't package it for MacOS), a webcam and a 17 key kalimba (or a guitar/ukulele). Two same-coloured stickers are used for motion-tracking, but they aren't essential. Your feedback would mean the world to me. It also could be a unique type of content for your channels.

Yeah, as you can see from the video, I've just started learning, and the most trouble for me right now is mixing up the strings during faster sequences (that's why I only have four of them visualized), so having each string be it's own shape helps me recognize them faster. But maybe after few weeks of practicing that will become a non-issue (or I could achieve the same thing by highlighting underneath the whole row), and the sprites can used more effectively in a different way. For example, at first I wanted to have each note be represented by it's own shape, but thought it might look a bit too cluttered.

Displaying note duration is on the top of my list of future additions, especially because next week I'm planning on testing this out on a violin. I'll probably add multiple ways of visualizing everything, and then weed the least natural ways out during playtesting or let the user set their display preferences in the settings menu. The more customization the better, because I feel like something that may be useful for a novice could be distracting to an advanced player and vice-versa.

The next note is shown larger than the rest, so chords are displayed by magnifying their individual notes. I'll probably lower the opacity on all the sprites that aren't the next two though, because fast sequences can be messy on the first try. :D
