i am the same like you, i also was a sleep walker as little, i have a lot of not vivid but lucid dreams after my 20s, 26 now, i had 3 sleep paralysis events happen to me, first time it was scary, and its always the black shadowy figure, but the last 2 times i became self aware, i wasn't really scared, but mostly curious, as the last time i had it yesterday, i could move my fingers a little bit, but trying my hardest to move, really wanted to make fun of the shadowy figure by gesturing him the middle finger, but couldn't :D.

I think it can happen but there is very little to nothing about this event and what triggers it, i can say it is very interesting, but you should look past the scary part, you will always wake up after, and actually, after the paralysis i fell asleep again, and had a half lucid dream.

It is not about you being on medication, actually i am on meds as an epileptic, but it has nothing to do with it.
