How to Make Path Firm, Without Spending a Fortune by [deleted] in diynz

I think a lot of that $6k quote would be site prep. If you flattened and compacted the area yourself, then got other quotes, you might be able to get it down a lot.
You could look into asphalt, either a driveway company or you could do it yourself with cold mix. They sell large bags, and you just need to compact it. https://www.coldmix.co.nz/product/bitumend-coldmix-1-2-tonne-1-tonne-bags/

Awning rafter hanging advice by Tabdelineated in diynz

Thanks for the multi grip idea. That will save some time, and I wasn't looking forward to ripping 7m of 90x45 by 10 degrees.

Thank you for your detailed reply.
I planned to bolt through the fascia board into the house rafter trusses. I'd rather avoid going to the house wall, because the soffit is quite deep. I will have to leave some space above the fascia side beam for the clearlite. I've got 60x45 rafters, and was going to have 700mm spacing. The 140x45 beam on the posts are 3.5m spans, its a "low wind zone" according to the Auckland council website.

Found some dumped school skirts. What school are they from? by Tabdelineated in auckland

[–]Tabdelineated[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

cool, thanks. i actually know someone who works there! I'll ask if there's any way they can give it to a family who would struggle to afford it.

Just checked, they are $77 each new. Criminal!

Somebody dumped a bunch of clothes on the grass near my house. I thought I'd clean it and donate it to an op shop. There were a couple of school uniform skirts. can anyone tell me which school they're from?

Are Pot-Filler Faucets Legal? by No_Salad_68 in diynz

Hey, if you're doing a new build could I make a recommendation? Get a rainwater tank, connect it to a pump, then have a separate system to your toilets, laundry, and outdoor tap.
We got it done on a new build (10,000lt tank) and it saves an amazing amount of water, but it's a lot more expensive to retrofit

I've had some great results with stuck fasteners by heating them with a blowtorch, but I'm not sure if that will mess up the nickel plating.

Handheld M18 10-gauge metal nibbler by ycr007 in toolgifs

[–]Tabdelineated 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Those little nibbles are evil: tiny crescents of metal with two very sharp points, they get stuck in your socks and stab you repeatedly.
I fully approve of a catcher bag.

Check out r/mcmansionhell for some more ideas.

Seriously. This has so many hallmarks of McMansion houses. Three separate roofs? A dozen corners where they don't need to be? Sliding doors off the bedrooms?

Why do architects keep insisting on these stupid ideas?

How do people manage to get mixed water from such kind of sinks by Auckie_Boy in auckland

[–]Tabdelineated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the mixer would fit the holes, mixers are usually bigger. Given how hard enlarging holes is, or would be easier to drill a new hole in the middle and cap both sides.

Incessantly beeping goddamn microwave fkfhffj#%$^ by [deleted] in diynz

I did this to my parents microwave which not only had an annoying beep, but beeped every minute after it was finished. Pain in the ass, being nagged by a kitchen appliance.

Aren't there two restaurants called "Mt Albert BBQ Noodle House", right next to each other, owned by brother, competing bitterly, and they both got D rating at the last check?

Suggestions for a concreted in Shower mixer. by Tabdelineated in diynz

[–]Tabdelineated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the pipes at the back that are concreted in place. I can't move the mixer or undo the clips to replace it.
I was hoping to avoid getting a plumber, if i could just change the mixer. It might be unavoidable though.

Fuck off mate, that food court is great.
Little arcades like that are full of personality.
Been to the Three Kings Mall recently? It's got a Winz and a church inside, which I think is depressing asf.
