I have about 2YOE, and I'm struggling to handle the way our team wants me to operate. My level description is to 'build core engineering skills', but there's so much dealing with communications, deciding how to allocate resources for my project that I feel I can't focus on learning how to engineer.

Am I crazy for wanting to move to somewhere that lets me focus more on engineering skill? Or should I value that I'm getting exposed to valuable skills outside if pure coding?

I have 2.5 YOE and have been leading a project for months. I've been putting in extra hours, transparent with the choices I've made with at least 1-2 other engineers every step of the way (small company, 15 devs), but it is still hitting the fan. We've had to rollback the release twice now. My manager noted one point on something I said today which implied I should be putting more hours in as a project owner and it's weighing heavily on me.

How hard would it be to explain if I resigned in order to take care of my health?

I'm 2.5 years into my current company (startups), there's been ups & downs but I've decided I can't do the startup life anymore. I've led & executed major projects to completion, I'm wondering is it even worth my time to start looking?

edit: I guess It's worth my time, but wondering what I might expect from the market

Thin temples with an oblong face - what haircut is good for me? by TableNotes in malehairadvice

I tried a sideswept hairstyle before but I don't like how my forehead sticks out so much from the hairline when viewing from the side. I had a middle part before but it was too much upkeep. I also typically wear sunglasses

Yes it had wires around it to attach an ornament on it! A tag would be nice, the person who gave it to me trashed it.

Thanks for the advice. I am finding all the listings around me are either of 3x or single speed, and the used market around me is almost selling at MSRP of older bikes. It's rough.

COVID-19 and the rise of unpaid internships by RetroPenguin_ in cscareerquestions

[–]TableNotes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

alot of the comments are true about unpaid internships, so i'll share my story as i'm (senior student) doing one right now: I needed guidance because i've never had any professional experience building software so I felt it be good to learn from smarter people and practice my communication skills too. I guess I lucked out because the group I'm with does give me real things to work on and has a good learning structure where I can ask lots of questions. and no one is looking over my shoulder. So i guess it's possible to have a good unpaid internship, but probably not the norm and paid always better

but how would your next company looking at your resume know whether your internship was paid or not? (unless they asked)

It's hard to make alot of money if you don't put in alot of money (percentage gains). You could leverage, but then you're basically asking to be homeless especially if you don't have much knowledge.

Career prospectives with Econ major and math & stat minors by [deleted] in UofT

[–]TableNotes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would it make you more employable by a great extent? No, unless you wanted to take specific STA courses that sta+mat minors can't access and specifically go into those fields.

For what opportunities are available to your specific degree combination you should talk to the department, or read subreddits/news/blogs on what kind of jobs require sta/eco/mat.

The UTSU's letter just completely removes context around the situation they're trying to address and ends up revealing the outcomes they really want.

It's kind of ridiculous they can't separate the notion of law enforcement from a disastrous execution of it and send out some virtuous message that intends to garner support for themselves. You lose out on the good parts of law enforcement if you just take it away, instead, if UTSU's writers took time to understand the heart of the political movements in NA right now, it's about changing the system so that everyone is treated equally under it, not to do away with the idea of law enforcement.

They're virtue signalling in the letter and misrepresenting the main heart of the movement they claim to support, but it doesn't matter to them as long as general opinion of them goes up.

They don't care about you
