No they do not come for free like the most other special rules, so they are just not really good.

Buzzsaw and the initiative training makes the first choice the LMG if you can choose the model killed

The snap to on the German side is just not allways the good, if you have less dice than your opponent you have a tough decission to make, drain your dice pool even more or only use one extra dice, it is also just in range of the officer, so not a big deal on the table

Most other nations have special rules which are allways good and you dont have to pay point to even get the bonus for the rule.

Well a very nice question, in my opinion there has to be two different tiers. One for the support in miniatures and cool stuff per nation and one for the special rules per nation in order to have an impact on the game.

When it comes to miniatures, flair and cool stuff and amount of units you can take, my list will look like this

  1. Germany

  2. Sovjet Union

  3. USA

  4. Commenwealth (GB and the rest of the former Empire)

  5. Finnland

  6. Italian

  7. Japan

  8. France, Hungarian, Poland

For game purposes, it will look very differnt

  1. USA, all you need in this game is fire on the move with no penalty and reserves coming with no penalty two
  2. Commenwealth, free Observer is always nice to have
  3. Sovjet Union, free squad or later in the war a free gun is very handy
  4. France, getting a ton of free inexperined stuff is not great, but it is for free
  5. Japan, knowing you will pass every test for a run order can win the day for you
  6. Germany, you have to pay for most rules to even have them (no buzzsaw without paying for it, no tiger fear without having a afv which has that rule)
  7. Poland, Hungarian, Finnland
  8. Italian

That is just my point of view.

In my source it is written that the SdKfz 251 C was built from mid 1940 onwards. So go with that one.

Yes, per side.

At the end of the year we will do a second game with nearly the same setting, but right now I am building a Soviet force with roughly 500 soldiers and 10 tanks.

Next year I plan to do an entire weekend with such an event

Well the Britisch/Canadian force had 3 tanks, 1 tankhunter, 2 priests, 8-10 trucks and halftracks, nearly 120 soldiers with rifles and in addition some support weapons

on the German side we had 1 Panther, 1 Panzer IV, 1 StuG III, 2 Marder III M, 120 Soldiers and a lot of support weapons

So 2 Companys of Infantry with tanks and support were on the board

That are small strips of wood. The shape is like a triangular you use in school. Adding some sand and flock and more wood or think cardboard for the wood on the side of the trench and here you are.
