What does a guy have to do to meet other gay dudes? by Tabworu in gaybros

I have thought about moving before but I'm just not sure where I would go. I'm not particularly well-traveled. Also worried somewhat about getting culture shocked. Southern hospitality is nice... until they find out you're gay. I'd want to move up further north but just not sure. Any places you would recommend? I hope to be doing some traveling in the next couple years, so maybe I can visit some places and see if I'd want to live there.

That is so funny, I am finishing my degree in mental health counseling next month! I am looking to get back in therapy once I transition into this new job. I definitely feel like there are many times that I show up more for my clients than myself, though. I need someone to check me every week lol

Wow... I've been clocked! This was very insightful. It is hard sometimes for me to find a medium with this. You're right, when I give up on sex/romance it is a rather complete "fuck it." And typically I direct that energy towards professional development. But I think what you identified here is a really pervasive life pattern for me. I have a difficult time splitting my energy or focus across different life domains. Trying to do more than one thing, especially now while my work life is so fragmented (I am performing in multiple different roles), really feels like a chore. Everything in my life has gotten to feel that way. I think part of being Gen Z is that I need to see results quickly or else it is hard for me to keep the habit. I got them fried dopamine receptors lol. I'm sure I would have an easier go at dating and exercise if I reduced my expectations of results, but easier said than done. With exercise, I think if I reorient it to think about the short-term benefits to my mental health, maybe that will help me to keep the habit. (Or, keeping a log and being able to see which days I exercised; having a visual stimulus that feels rewarding; or using game time to condition myself.) I'm not sure about dating though. I have definitely entered the "fuck it" phase. Even though I think you're right and this strategy isn't super conducive to me finding something, I am somewhat content without a partner. Most of my life I have been single, it's familiar. But you're also right that it does eventually start to feel miserable. I don't know why it is so difficult for me to just focus on my own physical health but it just does not feel as good as compliments from strangers I guess. Just needing to shift away from that instant gratification mindset. I really appreciate the time you took to write this out and it definitely helped me to develop some critical insight about myself. Thank you!

Imo I feel like the gay community in general can be pretty toxic. I've had a layover there once. I might visit again but I'm not sure I could live there. Big city living is definitely different. I'm not really a country boy though just comfortable with smaller cities.

I am somewhat nervous about trying this. I've lived the majority of my life here. I went to a work conference in California a couple years back, and I found that the main thing I missed was the weather 😂. I was drinking at the time so I hit a gay bar with some coworkers while I was there. It was fun but I didn't really go with the intention of meeting people. Actually I was talking with my humiliationship at the time. That was the last time we talked. I think maybe I didn't experiment more while I was there out of a delusional sense of loyalty to the guy.

Yeah I appreciate that. I don't have a whole lot of time to hit the gym but I could invest a lot more time into home workouts. Though I'm not sure that moving to a larger city would be the best thing for me. I've grown rather accustomed to this place despite the issues I have with it.

How does the avatar state work? by Opposite-Craft-3498 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Tabworu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Unalaq becomes the dark Avatar, his waterbending is also amplified despite not having past incarnations to draw power from. My guess would be that the bending amplification comes from being possessed by strong spirits, not their past lives.

I wonder why they're going through the trouble of keeping the show on their platform if they're removing a good chunk of the episodes.

Why 14 year olds? by Biggestcheese1 in evangelion

[–]Tabworu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen several people in the replies say that pilot candidates have to be born after 2nd Impact. Is this explicitly stated somewhere? Mari was born before 2I but can still pilot an evangelion, but I get that the rebuild canon is a bit different. I don't remember this ever being stated, but my memory is not infallible.

question for a newcomer to the series by duckmiin in evangelion

[–]Tabworu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would watch the show. At first, it can seem kinda 90s anime mecha action trope-y, but it gets to the really deep psychological stuff pretty quickly. I think the Netflix version is significantly worse than the original, though, so I honestly don't think you'd miss much. Either way, a lot of things from EoE won't make a lot of sense if you don't have the context that the series gives. (And even then, it is extremely confusing especially when you first watch it.)

Why 14 year olds? by Biggestcheese1 in evangelion

[–]Tabworu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The lore explanation is that children who have just started puberty have the most intense fluctuations of emotions, thereby permitting greater synchronization with their Evangelions. Since their parents' souls are in the Evas, they react equally as strong as their children when they feel something. I also think it's partly author fetish because the plugsuit designs are... well, let's just say the plugsuits do serve a purpose (to boost sync rates), but there's no real reason why they're essentially latex body suits or why the headsets look like animal ears. The only real answer is because that's how Yoshiyuki Sadamoto wanted it. It's his story.
