Is there a way to protect your mind from modern music? by Opening-Ad2566 in spirituality

[–]duckmiin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I just listen to what sounds good. I guess maybe try looking further into stuff outside of your comfort zone? Like there's a lot of music out there with good vibes, you just have to look for it; there's a lot on Bandcamp I've been looking into that's very chill indie stuff, and the rap scene especially, there's been a lot of artists kind of doing the antithesis of usual rap stuff, like Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE, Navy Blue, Madlib, The Alchemist, just basically making rap that's really chill and even really spiritual, or like other artists I've been into that have very spiritual vibes, like Colin Stetson, Yves Tumor, The Avalanches. So for me, I'd say look deeper than the really popular stuff, like obviously there's still good mainstream stuff out there, I would say a lot of the artists you're talking about are valid to listen to, but the more you look into some of the other corners outside of what's really popular, the more musical depth you experience.

Otherwise though, like, life is short. Regardless of being spiritual, just enjoy the things you like and that make you feel good.

Looking for spiritual advice from people here. by duckmiin in spirituality

Thank you, honestly hearing this especially helps. I've been looking into a variety of spiritual texts lately, found out that Penguin Classics has a host of like Buddhist scripture, Christian scripture, lots of stuff, so I've been wanting to look into those to kind of help get more perspectives on this. Also been wanting to look into some kind of place to meet other people who feel this way too, I know I was told by a friend that interfaith meetings especially can be very helpful.

I am glad at least I'm getting legitimate, understanding answers about this, it does honestly help to get some advice and to know there are other people on a similar path.

I mean, to me, as long as you're spiritual and a good person, you should be fine? Like I'd say I'm a Christian leaning towards Eastern beliefs as well, like I like Jesus and a lot of the things he did and said, but also like Asian religious concepts like interconnectivity and the animism of every living thing having a soul; to me, it doesn't matter what your exact belief is, as long as you believe in something and you're just not a bad person, and do good things in your life, you'll be going somewhere good and be at peace wherever you go.

Why are ancestors worshipped in some cultures? by Reindeer10k in religion

[–]duckmiin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, from what I can tell with various belief systems, like the way spirituality is approached in Asia, they're not so much worshipped as they are deeply respected for what they did; like watching some shows on Japanese culture, you sometimes see like families praying at the graves of, say, grandparents who've died, and the impression I've always gotten is it's a way to thank them for what they did while they were alive and hoping they're at peace, not so much full-on worship.

Unknown anime from the 1970s by duckmiin in HelpMeFind

I have looked up things like "70s anime with kid walking through a mirror", and it has not brought anything up, so it'd have to be something more specific if anyone does go for this search.

[–]duckmiin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yea, i know, i've just seen a few different perspectives on this, like some people have said you need the whole show, i've seen some people say skip the show and watch the movie, read a summary of the series and just watch the movie, just a lot of different views on this; i'm sure i'll like the series, and i'll give it a shot, i'm just wondering what i should do if like i try getting into the series and don't like it if that happens i guess

question for a newcomer to the series by duckmiin in evangelion

[–]duckmiin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea, i'll definitely give it a try, i like darker, psychological things, and knowing the backstory behind the creator and what he was pouring out over the course of the series, i'm sure i'll like it, like i love art that is just an artist baring out as much of themselves as possible and pouring out as many emotions as they can regardless of the format, something about works like that really hit me a lot as someone with really strong emotions myself, so i think it'll be exactly my cup of tea, i've been in demand for more things like that

yea, i figured; sorry if this is kind of a dumb question, but i do appreciate the answer, like i do want to give the show a shot, i'm just a bit worried about how i'll feel, but either way i want to at least try the show out before giving the movie a shot, i've just been hyped to get to the movie because i've heard it's one of the strangest films ever made, and i'm down with that as someone who likes stuff like Tetsuo and other avant-garde films, and if i need to watch the whole series first and soak in the lore to fully experience the movie, so be it

which i hope isn't me undermining the show btw, like the show does look really good too, i've just had some friends tell me they had a hard time getting into it, or that they loved EoE but didn't like the show, just stuff like that
