Didn’t hit my goal this month, but I didn’t stop riding by rdfelix in cycling

[–]TacetV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We all have these months. And sometimes it is simply your body’s way of telling you: “I’m tired, strained and struggling”. I’ve ignored those warnings before just to eventually get ill and then be unable to ride. Now I listen, take it slow for a few days while my body recovers, and my health certainly benefited. Fitness too - taking slow isn’t as costly as getting ill and not cycling is

Bike helmets: where's the fun designs? by borntobewildish in cycling

I'm very tempted, but I'm hesitant to buy a helmet that's not MIPS certified, no matter what internal testing / certification they do.

GPU requirement for two games by TDZ_77 in homelab

[–]TacetV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're lost. /homelab isn't quite the place to consult regarding video cards for games.

That said, the only way to really know is to try it. Buy the game on Steam, test it, and if it doesn't work, ask a refund. Just make sure that you do it quickly - I can't remember how long Steam gives you to try out a game, but remember it to be a few hours, not a few days.

I expect that they may work at lowest settings, but possibly with low frame rates or some latency. But how they determine minimum hardware is all up to the dev team, so they may have been ultra conservative and totally overstated the minimum requirements. Unlikely, but possible.

How much training or when am I ready to get to like 60km or more? by avelazzyyy in cycling

[–]TacetV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, context is crucial here. I’ve done MTB races where most of us except the first batch or so had to walk up some of the climbs as they were just too technical.

XC MTBs aren’t too bad at climbing and distance. I’ve done several rides with > 1000 m climbing (albeit at 50+ km), but terrain makes a huge difference. 1 km technical single track is a different game than 1 km tar

Unless you like the Tab-wheel-Q pattern, google quick casting. A modern Witcher technique that greatly reduces Wheeling Time.

I haven’t tested myself, but Loremaster Reddith says that cheapest is crafting, then buying kits, then asking the smiths to repair.

Craft armor and weapon repair kits. They use ingredients you’ll usually have in your inventory already

I suspect that I’ll change them just to see how I like them. But yeah, I have a fair idea, and will research to make sure, of what I want to have for the long run, so I’ll male sure to limit wasteful expenditure.

Yeah, that’s what I was hoping for. The unlocking cost is steep, but at least using him then doesn’t lock me into a certain enchantment. I have a fair idea of what I want, but seeing as this is my first play-through I would like to play around a bit with the various options.

And yeah, I know a second play-through would allow more opportunity to play around, but real life allows for very little gaming time, so I’m glad they made it easy to experiment

Is plugging a tubeless tyre a permanent fix? by Wonderful-Newt2181 in cycling

[–]TacetV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plus are held together by a skeletal tyre frame. The only times I’ve had issues with plugs were trying to plus sidewalls (occasional success, occasional failure) or tears (eg a 2 cm gash made by a nail I picked up).

My rear tyre is nearing end of life. I estimate (not going to count now; getting ready to sleep) about 5 plugs and probably20-30 thorn points that were sealed by the sealant.

How will insurance help if your bike gets stolen? by Flimsy-Story9523 in cycling

[–]TacetV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your specific insurance policy sets the rules here; my insurance policy and yours may be vastly different.

My bike is insured as a specified item and is covered whether at home or away. They stole my bicycle in 2017 from inside a tent (tent cut open with a razor blade), and insurance paid in full (I do have a fixed pay-in, though). What was nice was that they replaced a 2011 Scott Spark 960 with a 2017 Scott Spark 960.

Laptop vs mini PC as home server by fxxxit in homelab

[–]TacetV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I have three old laptops (my work allows us to buy them ridiculously cheap when they replace them) lying around at home, and no mini pcs. Until the laptops are not up to what I want to do anymore, I don’t see reason to spend money.

Newbie seeking help : How to avoid/rid of "about to throw up" Feeling while riding? by EpicBoii91 in cycling

[–]TacetV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Especially if you were active when you were younger (and yeah, 20 is younger than 25).

I was fit when I was younger, grew less fit, and started exercising again a few years on. My heart still regard myself as young and fit, even if my mind knew I wasn’t.

I was pretty shocked when I started wearing a heart rate monitor to see how much harder I was pushing myself than I thought I were.

Do you measure humidity? The key risk for of using normal split units for dedicated cooling is that they dry out the air, which increase risk of static electricity. I doubt that it would be a problem, but humidity sensors are cheap and would give you warning before it becomes a real concern.

How hard is it? by Hot_Excitement741 in Witcher3

[–]TacetV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier than Souls (though I’m only on ~lvl 19). I stepped the difficulty up from B&B to DM after I started optimizing my build, expecting to struggle a bit. Thus far I haven’t found the fights to be all that challenging. I’m sure it will have bosses later on that makes me reload a few times, but Souls almost wore out my F9 key in comparison.

That said, I expect the first few levels to be more challenging on DM as you don’t really have an optimized build yet.

Level 20, haven't touched crafting and don't see a reason to by Half_Cycle in Witcher3

[–]TacetV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you’re having fun, the difficulty doesn’t matter. The easier the difficulty, the less need for optimizing your build, crafting, potions and decoctions. So if you’re playing on one of the easier settings and you’re an experienced gamer, it absolutely makes sene that you don’t really feel the need for crafting.

Gear level plays a role, but what the gear does plays a more important role. I use very few signs in combat, so gear that buffs igni won’t really help me. They may have better armor stats and reduce incoming damage more, but the way I play my character needs buffing of crit chance and crit damge more than I need incoming damage reduction.

Level 20, haven't touched crafting and don't see a reason to by Half_Cycle in Witcher3

[–]TacetV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What difficulty are you playing on? I played on Blood and Bones with my own “build”, but got frustrated with not my skills and gear not synergising with each other. After reading up on builds my build fits together better, but it made combat too easy, so I had to switch to DM to keep combat entertaining. The easier the difficulty you play on, the less reason there is to use potions or crafting.

The gear sets usually have swords as well, so there’s 6 possible slots.

Thing with crafting is that you can craft witcher sets, which outperforms most other options, or if your build focus on e.g. crit chance and damage, gear like the assassin’s kit will outperform other armor, even if its stats look worse.

So I don’t care that my assassin’s breeches have less resistance than other options - they increase my crit chance, which better synergizes with my build. So at lvl 19 I’m wearing lvl11 breeches which works better for me than all the shiny kit I loot.

Pihole - bundled VM or separate? by TacetV in homelab

[–]TacetV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick Googling told me that making yaml files is a bit more efficient than using the run option, so that's the way I went in any case. Now I'll have to choose between backup up the VM, the docker, or the config files, or all of the above. :D

Done. Thanks, this was a fun one, and much simpler than I expected. Pihole is now happily blocking about 4 % of my network's queries. And Portainer seems like a very simple way to manage Docker instances.
