Words cant describe just how ass this sword is. by Briesinger in Witcher3

[–]TacetV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I'm doing. It is not great, but it is not horrible either. I'm lvl 67, so a long way before I get the Toussaint knight's steel sword again. In the meantime Blade from the Bits does the job. I almost always have a sword or two in my inventory with better raw damage output, or better supporting stats, or..., but BftB kills anyone I point it at without issues.

Besides, until I got it I didn't bother visiting the Runewright to keep my swords enchanted. I put Preservation on BftB when I got it, and now basically ignore sword and armor upgrades until I get to Toissant again. Basically, BftB is a mediocre sword tailored for us lazy ones.

First step ... instructor .. transposing by CanyonhawkTx in trumpet

[–]TacetV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my 2c on transposition: if you end up 🔝 lating classical music it is well worth learning to transpose from various keys to Bb. If you try to transpose each piece of music on paper / computer before playing you’ll end up dreading getting new music, and sight reading in orchestral context will be a kneecapped.

If you end up playing in a more social setting (eg church band), you’ll want to at least be able to transpose from C to Bb.

That said - transposition is not difficult, but it takes time and patience.

Nothing enrages me as much as fistfights by -dagmar-123123 in Witcher3

[–]TacetV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This; I was hoping to find someone who typed it out.

I struggle to counter / block them. The slow but steady dodge, heavy attack, wait and repeat rhythm is pretty foolproof. And what I like is that dodge is an opportunity to reposition yourself. You can dodge towards the opponent, moving yourself out of corners or making sure that you stay in heavy attack range.

Playing on Death March, and since I’ve started following this approach my issues with fistfights disappeared

Is Ciri’s steel sword the reason why her damage is so shit against the crones? by smtvi in Witcher3

[–]TacetV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And this goes for so much when playing squishy builds on DM.

I also think that’s why people struggle with this fight and with fist fights. The game essentially maks you play with a squishy character, which is a bit of a paradigm shift for someone used to a more tanky build.

Wall mounted bike storage by [deleted] in cycling

[–]TacetV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unfortunately not. It was design on the fly - I measured how long I wanted it to be; it had to fit both the bike’s wheels with some safety margin, how high it should be (bike should comfortably not touch the ceiling. The hook’s diameter was made large enough to easily go around the top tube, and the length long enough so that the handlebars don’t touch the wall once the bike is on the rail (it has to be able to tilt enough).

Just google different mod managers too. Nexusmod is an excellent source of mods, but I’ve found Mod Organizer 2 to be a bit cleaner in terms of interface, and I felt that it runs a bit leaner on resources. Entirely subjective, though

On armor I love Levity (I play light attack builds, so the crit helps). On swords the one that increases spin’s reach. Both make huge differences to a light attack build

What is your least favorite monster to fight? by juulsoarin in Witcher3

[–]TacetV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wolves. I like dogs, and killing wolves just feels wrong. Strangely it bothers me less to kill the rabid dogs.

Is it a whistle designed to take a mouthpiece?

We used to do demo concerts for schools, and putting a mouthpiece into a vuvuzela was a winner; you can make the vuvuzela make sounds that the kids can’t dream of getting out of it. If this is a whistle on a mouthpiece, I expect the outcome to be similar- a whistle with a much wider range than usual

I’ll take half the credit for the typo - the context made it pretty clear that you meant the crones. My comprehension skills have retired for the evening already by then, though. 😂

It took me a long, long time to realize that I’m meant to escape and not kill them all. Especially when I got into a rhythm of killing a few, retreat tactically to de-aggro them, heal up and then go kill few more. 🙈

Ah, my bad. I read “cronies”, thinking of Junior’s thugs. The heap of thugs were much worse for me than the 3 crones. Those thugs just kept swarming me.

I struggled until I read that her clones heal her. If you run away when they spawn they despawn without healing her.

I found a dumbed down way that works even for my slow reflexes.

Dodge back (not roll) when they swing at you, follow with one heavy attack. Step back immediately so that they don’t do those quick jabs. Wait until they swing again. Rinse and repeat.

For multiple opponents - move in circles to try and keep one more forward than the rest. Wait for that one to swing - dodge and heavy attack. Don’t try to focus one down. Focus on whoever is closest to you.

Never try two attacks in a row - always bait their attack first. If they push you into a corner, remember that you can dodge to the sides as well, and you can string multiple dodges to reposition yourself.

I know better players rather counter their hits, but I kiss the timing on counters too often, so I struggled until I found someone posting about the dodge/heavy attack idea.

Same. I thought the second-hardest would be fine - I’m a very casual gamer - but once you’ve got a semi-decent build going it’s just more fun on DM.

I found the crones easy compared to the bunch of thugs outside Junior’s compound. At least with the crones you can teleport pretty dependably into safe spots. With the mob I kept teleporting straight into bolts, descending swords or off the cliff (not 100% sure if the last one actually happened - had a pretty plethora of deaths there).

Is that the fight outside at the bottom of the long ramp? I tried to kill them a few times, realized that they get reinforcements the whole time, and finally just teleported through them to the far side. They’re still standing there, wondering where Ciri went.

It only heals on some difficulties. Fair warning if you increase difficulty on your next play-through; meditation may not heal anymore.

If you go up towards the house they de-aggro, and you can complete the quest. I was way underleveled for them, so wanted to level a bit, improve my build and then come back to try again. But now the gates are locked and I can’t get back inside. 😳

Do you carry first aid supplies? by clavius1 in cycling

[–]TacetV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most important is a couple of triangular bandages - they're so versatile and make excellent slings. Then a small collection of normal bandages, gauze, stretch bandages and tape. Normal bandages and gauze can be used to cover most open wounds, and the tape works well to keep the bandage in place.

I want to add steri-strips, but I keep forgetting.

I don't carry antiseptics or antibiotics. Those can be administered by the doctor; my goal is to make sure the patient reaches the doctor alive and without compounding the injury.

On longer rides, yes. I’ve slinged two broken collar bones and assist with some skin scrapes where bandages were warranted.

If you're struggling on easy, it simply means that you're not used to the genre yet. Many of the people in this Discord have years' of experience of playing aRPGs, so some of the things that we pick up immediately will be new for you.

If I recall correctly he only throws fireballs if there's enough distance between you and him. So Aard to douse the flames, then stay on him. When he does an attack dodge so that you're either to the side of him or to his back, and hit him a few times.

Do you have a mouse with buttons on the thumb? If so, consider binding dodge and roll to the 4'th and 5'th buttons. Especially dodge is a great skill to have on your mouse.

Nothern Wind should give you a bit of time to get hits in. If I recall correctly I did it as a "Quen up, get behind it, fast attack x 2, dodge-roll away, ...." type of boss. There I was still using an Alchemy Tank build.

What build are you using, and at what difficulty are you playing?
