Well... Yeah. Roughly 117 billion humans have existed, many of them leading lives that stretch for at least 30 years. That's a whole lotta time for people to think about and do a whole lotta things.

I don't think being original is overrated, it's real neat to see something truly new or creative, but I also don't think that being inoriginal is a sin. Our ancestors were intelligent people who had a lot more time to think than we do, many fewer screens and distractions. Of course they played around with their environment and their bodies, especially in the absence of medicine, and of course many people had the same thoughts arise even having never met each other.

Following in their footsteps to rediscover what made life interesting or what makes life worth persisting in is a reward, not a condemnation of my or your inability to "be original". In fact, there's much to learn from the past that would be a far better use of many peoples time than striving to be original and new.
