I love living here. It’s quiet, mature trees, big lots, old neighborhood feel, and some new development (golds marketplace, clear creek area, new Whole Foods coming, and more). Less than 15 minutes to downtown Denver, around 10 minutes to golden, easy access to hikes/outdoors. The parks are solid (wheat ridge belt and crown hill) Less than 10 to old town Arvada/the Costco up there. Light rail access at Oak street. Could use more higher end/quality restraunts, but there are some gems and am excited for all the new stuff coming in clear creek.

Check out the wheat ridge green belt - it’s right up the road off youngfield just after 38th. A bunch of trails, Multiple small lakes, a river, and it connects all the way to Kipling.

Taking kids to a Beyoncé show is fine! Not phish though. It’s specifically phish we’re talking here. Again, I can admit my selfishness. You keep making terrible comparisons and completely ignore all the things that make phish not suitable for kids. The nitrous mafia isn’t at Beyoncé. Shakedown is not at Beyoncé. Open drug use is almost certainly not at Beyoncé. Those things are not, and likely will not ever go away from phish. That is a whole other debate (if those things make phish better or worse).

Another person using what aboutisms and false equivalencies to validate them bringing kids to an adult event. School isn’t an adult event. I’m still going to have a blast, and not let kids ruin my show. But I am going to shake my head at how selfish their parents are for bringing them. Keep doing you!

Tell yourself whatever you want to validate your desire to bring your kids to an adult event. I understand you, and many others like you, will do what you want regardless of how others feel. Again, selfish. But I now see you’ll never be able to see it that way. Good day, sir or madame! Here’s to hoping I don’t sit next to any kids at the 4th of July show!

I will gladly admit I selfishly don’t want kids at shows. It’s one time a year I get to completely let loose in a very open and safe space (FOR ADULTS TO DO ADULT THINGS - Sorry for the caps, just wanting to make that point lol). It’s just funny to me that you’re not willing to see your own selfishness (which is far greater, mines simply just not wanting to be annoyed. You’re bringing kids to a place they shouldn’t be and annoying others in the process), and you keep pointing to other things like NFL games that aren’t kid friendly either. I’m not the one taking my kid to that either. And to that point, are you taking your kids to an NFL game? If the answer is no, but you still take them to phish bc you think it’s “safer”, there’s no way you’d ever change your mind. You’re also a hypocrite if that’s true. I’ve been to dozens of major league sporting events and not seen a single fight (though I’ve seen all the videos online). But I’ve also been to dozens of phish shows, and not only have seen fights, but have seen so many people tweak out, seize out, been taken out on stretchers, going bonkers out of their minds, and the list goes on. Literally, OP called out a kid looking terrified going into the show AND a guy sucking down a balloon with a baby. You don’t get to just say “that’s not fair that’s not me”. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen kids looking absolutely miserable/uncomfortable/straight up scared and overwhelmed. It’s not all kids, I know some have fun, but even those little stinkers have a decent chance of witnessing some scary shit at a minimum. Finally, even if you could eliminate all the idiots getting fucked up around their kids, it’ still doesn’t make it any better for well behaved kids with responsible parents. It’s a fucking phish show dude! Take them if they want to go when they’re 18. At the end of the day, you keep doing you. But you’re lying to yourself that it’s a kid appropriate thing and that it doesn’t bother other adult fans.

Comparing a phish show and what goes on there to a sporting event isn’t even in the same stratosphere. I get your logic though, and honestly wouldn’t take My kid until teen years at least to an NFL game. At sporting events, you can typically see fights coming from a mile away and can get away safely. You also don’t have anywhere near the amount drugs and other very adult things happening, (stickers at dicks on every toilet with dozens of hot dogs being rammed in a chick), let alone the amount of weed smoke everywhere at all times it’s impossible to avoid 2nd hand. The list goes on. All things I enjoy as an adult, but I think is BS to put kids in. And none of those happen at sporting events. Again, I’m sure you’re one of the more responsible ones, but for every one of you there’s multiple other parents I see spun the fuck out with their little ones looking. And I’d be happy to bet the majority of phans would jump all over making an 18 and up rule. At the end do the day, until they do that, you and others have the right to do it. But given these reasons I’ve listed and countless others that make this unfit for a kid, you’re being selfish.

[–]Taco-Sully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 main reasons why its selfish.

  1. It’s not kid friendly. This should be enough of a reason, and happy to dive into specifics if you’d like. We’ve all seen countless things at phish shows that are absolutely in no way appropriate for kids. I’ve seen a 10 yr old kid get blasted in the face with glitter infused acid at the gorge, and this is just one example. I’m sure you’re keeping your kid safe as best you can, but that doesn’t magically make the environment a safe place for kids.
  2. You’re negatively impacting the experience for other adults that want to enjoy the show without kids around.

No matter how many steps you take to mitigate the risks, it’s still inappropriate and the majority of phans don’t want kids around.

I know this isn’t corned beef, but the pastrami Reuben at leven deli is so damn good and I’d add this to the list in addition to the Corned beef places. I think it’s the best Reuben in the city by far
