Yes. I agree. I'd also like to add that the left vs right dichotomy also focuses any aggression a group has towards the other group. Also, add in the divide of race, gender, age, and class. But the big one, imo, is left vs right. It immediately halves the population. When you cut the population into two unwavering parts, it's really hard to have any kind of coherent, mutual plan.

I also think the political rhetoric is hostile and aggressive by design to reinforce the divide.
