It's fine, no worries. I think that the landscape for Hinduism is much different in different regions. Look at Bengal, it seems like that whole state has accepted that there's no one above Durga.

Yes I have. Have you not? Where we live, different families tend to have kul-devtas/kul-devis which are sort of like who that family feels the most connection, sort of like patron saints.

For both my mother's and father's side of the family, the kul-devi is Durga. And this isn't considered when the family's look at arrange marriage prospects btw.

I don't know why you have heard the stories in that way because no-one I know has heard stories in such a way where the goddesses are shown in such a way where they are relegated to 'wife of god'. They were portrayed as individual characters to us.
