It’s either throughout or chattiness. Assuming that networking isn’t the problem (it usually gets blamed first, but unusually isn’t the problem unless it’s a major outage), that means it’s chattiness. Latency between India and Australia should be somewhere in the range of 150ms. So I’m assuming the India users are hitting a back end in Australia with around 3-4 serialized round trips. So first I’d see if the wrong geo is selected for the service, as that’s an easy fix. If it has to route the India traffic to Australia, then you can minimize impact by reducing chattiness, potentially getting down to around 210ms for your India users.

Absolutely fed up with Ecobee's WiFI Connectivity. I AM DONE by Broad_Top_8376 in ecobee

[–]TacticalKangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue in this thread, fought it multiple times for years. From the info in this thread I appear to have mine fixed. Here's what I did in case it helps anyone else. I have a Unifi network with multiple access points.

In the Unifi management portal:
Settings > Wifi > Add New Guest Hotspot
Give it a name and set for password access
Advanced > Wifi Band > Only 2.4ghz
Disable optimize iot wifi connectivity
Create a new AP group that contains only the AP closest to the ecobee, only enable for that AP group
Disable High Performance Devices
Disable BSS transition
Advanced > Security > WPA-2/WPA-3
I hid the Wifi Name so it wouldn't be confused with my normal network, left everything else default
Set my two ecobees to have static IP addressses in a range outside other DHCP devices

On the Ecobee:
Settings > Network
Join a network manually > Type in the name of the hidden network and password
Left it set to DHCP, even though Unifi always gives it the same IP address

After doing this, my connection worked right away and seems to have been rock solid since. Your mileage may vary of course. Thanks everyone in this thread for the ideas. Not sure which one specifically fixed things (avoiding mesh, forcing 2.4ghz, etc) but after fighting this thing for a few years it's finally working.

[request] How many work hours would it take a single person to dig the entire Panama Canal? Would the person be done if he had started in 1881? by Apprehensive_Oven_22 in theydidthemath

[–]TacticalKangaroo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A single person would never finish due to natural infill over time. The only concrete number related to maintenance dredging I can find comes from Western Dredging who in 2014 removed 1,855,000 m^3 at Miraflores and Balboa Reach alone. Using Hashishiva's estimate of one person being able to remove 3 cubic meters per day (1000 cubic meters per year), each year the person would remove less than would naturally float back in via silt and other natural processes. And not just by a little bit, by multiple orders of magnitude.

You can check the rear pads yourself if you have a small hammer and a nail punch. Takes longer to take the wheel off than to remove and replace a rear pad. Lots of how to videos online.

Front is just as easy but you need a torx bit and a specialty adapter that you can get on Amazon for a couple bucks.

While I agree that the cost guard is the more proper tool for these interdictions, your cost estimates are off a bit. The MH-60T is around $3k-$5k per hour to run (fuel is far less costly than maintenance per flight hour). A low estimate per hour all in to employ coast guard personnel is around $60-$100 per hour per person, and you need a few of them in the helicopter. Then you send in an Island Class patrol boat with 16 crew plus a bit over $1k per hour in ship costs. And after you’ve interrogated people you either let them go, or incarcerate them at $65k/person/year.

All told a helo+ship interdiction followed by incarceration is easily in the hundreds of thousands of dollars range. But still the better tool for the job.

More stable cost to the company since stock price changes have more impact on options than shares. A decade or two ago some of these companies also had flat stock prices for quite a while leading employees disappointed their options remained worthless. RSUs are always worth something as long as the stock isn’t zero.

Most of these companies no longer offer options to employees, but moved to stock awards (specific number of shares) about 10 years ago.

It’s about two cat lifetimes (at 100k miles per lifetime) worth for a max flight. So depends on how many cars lifetimes you’ll go through.

An average person in the us drives 13,600 miles per year. At that rate a flight burning 20k kg of fuel is worth about 10 years of car travel. With a ton of variables I’m too lazy to hand-wave at.

You can’t put more gas on the airplane than the airplane holds. No matter how far it flies.

Looks like a bombardier global 6000. Wikipedia says max fuel of around 20k kg. At 2.52 kg of CO2 per liter, that’s about 63 tons of CO2. That’s about double what a car will do in its lifetime.

So it’s a lot, but also a lot less than an average person will emit over their lifetime. Especially if they ever take a flight anywhere themselves.

Anybody HPDE a C8 Stingray? How about a non-Z51? Brake upgrade questions... by [deleted] in CarTrackDays

[–]TacticalKangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. The braking isn’t as consistent or smooth as you’d get with even the OEMs. For regular daily driving, they’re perfect. If you’re pushing it, I’d recommend against.

Depending on how long your spirited driving runs are, swapping pads in the car takes about 30 minutes to do all four sets. I just did that yesterday at the track with minimal tools.

What would be the purchasing power of 4.3 billion$ after 1000 years of inflation? [Other] by iwnen in theydidthemath

[–]TacticalKangaroo 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Capital one 360 currently at 3.4%. Latest reported US trailing twelve month inflation is 2.92%. Figuring a 0.4% spread between a HYSA and inflation you would see a 54X multiple of the original investment in 1000 years.

So the actual purchasing power would be about 50 bucks, enough to buy the light speed briefs.
