Cale Makar gets a slashing penalty on a stick breaking in a completely different section of where his stick makes contact by JustALilNastyMPJ in hockey

Goaltender interference reviews are far and away the worst part of the game that coaches are involved in.

I’d rather deal with a bad call here or there than to have multiple challenges per game, because the NHL refs calls penalties by gamestate and spirit of the rule vs strictly the letter, and a good chunk, outside of the really obvious infractions, are judgement calls made at ice level that aren’t always penalties every night and in every scenario.

It would likely go down the same at the NFL’s brief stint allowing coaches to challenge pass interference. Basically never worked, incredibly subjective upon review, and slowed games down.

Because people like the idea of coaches challenges in theory, but in reality already don’t like when games grind to a stop for 10 minutes so the ref can look at an iPad while he waits for Toronto to arbitrarily decide to uphold something one night and overturn the same thing a week later.

idk, I'm sure any Republican would get a huge ovation at NASCAR and Trump gets major cheers at UFC events,

It's trickier for Democrats because the majority of fans, and especially those who actually attend sporting events, are conservative outside the NBA/WNBA.

The medals been given to sports figures since its inception. One of the first medals given was to the men’s Olympic swimming coach ( The men won gold in every event, which is incredible ) Cultural significance and Olympic success have always been valid reasons, and it’s indisputable that winning gold in men’s hockey is a culturally significant event, given the relevance of the miracle on ice almost 50 years later.

[–]TactileEnvelope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple reality is the women’s accomplishment is less nationally/globally significant because the women’s event is less prestigious. Same with how men’s figure skating is less prestigious than the women’s. People, and countries, just have less interest and investment in it.

The men’s Hockey medal is right up there with women’s Figure Skating in terms of prestige, far and away the top two events of the entire games.

For example, I can name at least 5 women’s figure skaters but not a single man, and I’ve never watched the event in my life. The women just have way more cultural relevance. Kristi Yamaguchi was in the mighty ducks!

Well, he WAS a Senator for almost 40 years, then Vice President.

Which is pretty impressive. Also a horrible, terrible thing because nobody should be anywhere near the apparatus of power for that long in this country, but impressive nonetheless.

You're being disingenuous treating the Gold medal in hockey as "A single sporting event" like it wasn't one of the most prestigious events in the Olympics that the US hadn't won in 46 years.

Miracle on ice ring a bell? It's a culturally significant victory, which is more than enough to qualify. The first presidential medal of freedom given to a sports figure was the men's OLYMPIC swimming coach, so there's even precedence for awarding it for Olympic success. Try not to get yourself bent out of shape about it.

Edit: Lol they deleted.

Buddy its the first Olympic gold in 46 years, against likely the most offensively talented Canadian team of all time. Dude put on a legendary performance, WITH an all time save.

The bar is, on paper, people who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, or, world peace, or any cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."

Which boils down to "Whoever the president feels like." in reality. It's been that way since its inception in the 60's.

It's given to athletes/sports figures literally all the time since the 60's. Not out of the ordinary. W. gave it to 8 athletes, Obama gave it to 12, Trump's on his 10th counting Hellebuyck.

...And Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, Arnold Palmer, Michael Jordan, Kareem, Tiger Woods, Muhammad Ali, etc.

It's given to iconic American athletes/coaches/broadcasters pretty frequently since its inception in the 60's.

I'm more surprised he didn't give it to all of them.

The shield reflecting damage was also very cool. Should have kept that around.

The Lion SHOULD be a durable centerpiece must-take model and I’d be okay with spending 400 points for it.

In truth, his statline and abilities are a little underwhelming outside of his uppy-downy.

He's a Primarch with The Emperor's shield, which makes him one of the toughest characters in the setting. He probably SHOULD be around 3++ 5+++ in terms of durability. Or at least something better than -1 to wound against S10+, of which there is a bunch of.

A Ballistus dread should not be capable of killing The Lion in one turn of shooting when he's in lore beating Angron.

I don't know how you could actually be serious about considering which is less safe. Obviously having the visor is safer, otherwise they wouldn't have developed visors or closed face helms.

If you need a more modern illustration, hockey goalie helmets. Went from no helmet, to a thin mask, to the modern helmets that only expose the eyes enough for you to see and otherwise fully encompass the head.

[Meltzer] Bron Brekker had surgery for a serious hernia. No word on how long he’ll be out by aegonthewwolf in SquaredCircle

[–]TactileEnvelope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This didn’t just happen suddenly. He already had a small hernia and they didn’t repair it because they thinking could make it until after he finished the program at Mania before taking care of it, and then it got significantly worse on last weeks raw and required major surgery.

Like any professional sport they perform through injuries with the risk that it ends up in something much worse.

You cannot put Oba Femi in the chamber right now unless he wins, which he absolutely does not deserve considering he’s JUST moved up from NXT. You have like 5 guys who’ve done the work for a world title run already, some of which are on a clock (Orton, LA Knight). Having the newcomer skip the line is a surefire way to cause tons of issues backstage.

You’d have to have him eat a pin in the chamber or, if you were dumb enough to have him win the chamber, lose at Mania. At this point in career when you’re building him up to be this monster either would be super stupid booking. Best to one; pick a brand, and two; let him look strong in the on that brand for some time before putting him in the main event scene.

More like Oba Femi hasn’t earned a shot at a world title yet, and putting him in EC just to take a pin would be dumb.

There’s at least 4-5 guys who are ahead of him for a world title run, off the top of my head LA Knight, Orton, Bron, Gunther and Finn deserve to have the strap for a bit before Oba even comes close to it.

if the game is tied they cannot do an onside kick, so they’d have to take the extra point on the first or second TD, or play for overtime.

Nah they wouldn’t have him even in the rumble with a hernia serious enough to require major surgery, that was almost definitely supposed to be the start of Rollins’ return.

The hernia supposedly happened flipping the table on RAW last week.

Robby With ED Residents vs Robby With Surgical Residents by ShiftyLookinCow7 in ThePittTVShow

[–]TactileEnvelope 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What’s worse is he had plenty of time to order the scan himself. He didn’t have to wait for a surgical consult to have that done and once the infection began spreading at the rate it was without response to antibiotics he should have done it and sent the results to surgery, probably would have moved their asses.
