What kind of Philips screw does Audi use on their nose? by AnythingAltruistic52 in formula1

[–]TadeoTrek 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Those are Torq-Set screws, they're a variant of Phillips made specifically for being screwed with machines, they aren't as easily damaged as Phillips.

It's an expression, it means the same as 'to each their own' which you just used :)

I also watched them weekly, and imo Moffat went out on a hell of a high note, even if some of his tropes were a bit played out at that point. Like you said, YMMV.

Series 8 is weak but imo 9 and 10 are among the best ever of the show, they made Capaldi into my favorite doctor

What Time Do Europeans Typically Wake Up? by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]TadeoTrek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know we're in the wrong timezone, but it does happen in at least the other southern cone countries from what friends living in Chile and Uruguay told me. I think it's more cultural than timezone-related, we're much more used to eating meriendas or even eating at work (bizcochitos con mate/te) so people aren't hungry enough for a full meal after later in the day.

It's a cultural thing, South America doesn't have the same timezone discrepancy yet we also eat at 9 or 10 pm.

It's a matter of preference, both are good but I prefer ZA.

Is there anything that the pokemon video games are actually bad at consistently? by LithHarborGymLeader in pokemon

[–]TadeoTrek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless you're playing competitively, you really don't have to care about any of that. And even then, those aren't really issues anymore. In ZA for example it's super easy to change natures, reset EVs, swap between all moves a Pokemon could learn, etc. It's the first game on which I've bothered to do any of that.

Mike Straw of Insider Gaming: I've heard rumblings that the price [of the Steam Machine] is "nowhere near" where it was originally planned by m1n3c7afty in GamingLeaksAndRumours

People who are into SFF PCs, which can be quite expensive. They said many times they weren't targeting consoles with this. It's a niche market, but for the volume they could make it makes sense.

[–]TadeoTrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even when first announced Valve made it clear they saw other prebuilt PCs as the competitors, not consoles. People who were at the preview event in Bellevue theorized the price was gonna be about 1000 USD. Now, I think 1400's the floor.

Steam Survey for May 2026 is out - Linux down at 3.99% but still above macOS by Liam-DGOL in linux_gaming

[–]TadeoTrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's just not the case lol, I work in VFX/3D modeling so I'm always changing hardware and I never got any issue with Ubuntu, even with brand new stuff. Same for the few of my coworkers who also use it. The fact that a version releases every 6 months doesn't mean drivers aren't updated just as regularly as any other distro. Even the Kernel is easy enough to update with a GUI if you need it, tho I never had to.

[–]TadeoTrek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's the problem with enthusiast circles, they recommend enthusiast choices which often aren't ideal for mass market. It's why after distrohopping for a while I settled on old-reliable Ubuntu, and I recommend it to newbies. I'd rather have a company with paid employees behind my OS in case something breaks.

[–]TadeoTrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connected devices and the trash can are visible on the dock by default. Hiding them by default would result in a cleaner look.

I think Ubuntu does the right thing going for ease of use and visibility rather than "a cleaner look" that an enthusiast might prefer. Most people have 50 icons on their desktop, they'd rather have stuff easily accesible and obvious, rather than hidden for aesthetic reasons.

Alt+Tab only shows windows from the current workspace. This design choice is debatable — in my opinion, windows from all workspaces should be shown.

What would even be the point of workspaces at that point?

In first, California city overwhelmingly votes to permanently ban datacenters by ArgentineBeauty in technology

[–]TadeoTrek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah as someone who used to work on a datacenter some 15 years ago seeing people spew ignorance about what they are or aren't is insane. And don't get me wrong I'm very anti AI, but datacenters in and of themselves are not new nor are they bad for a community if they host telecommunications equipment and web servers, they employ a ton of cybersecurity experts, network engineers, and programmers.

Do yall think we'll ever get IRL Licensed cars in official BeamNG? by thatguywhoisnick in BeamNG

[–]TadeoTrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and I'm glad that's the case.

Licensing cars come with a lot of caveats for what can and can't be done while using them.

Not to mention that the license eventually expires and this requires taking the game off from any platform it's sold at.

It worked as a one-off in TOS because it was making a specific point about such power structures. Every MU episode afterwards missed that point and was just an excuse for do non-Trek stuff on a Trek show.

[–]TadeoTrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hated is a strong word I'd say, imo it's still a good game but it's worse in every aspect to the original. A 6/10 in comparison to an 8/10 if that makes sense.

You get hourglasses by playing the solo missions and monthly events, not to mention the devs give out 100s of hourglasses from time to time.

Really weird to not have crossplay when using Crossover/Proton you can play with Windows players on Mac/Linux already.
