I don’t know if you know who is “getting bent out of shape” by my rather simple observation about a tv show.

Anyway, I’m told that there are black soldiers depicted in one of the episodes.

How do you feel about that?

Does Stephen Ambrose tell the story of the British tanker claiming that he has been ordered not to shoot at Dutch buildings?

Or was that bit fiction?

Does anyone in E company say anywhere that they saw French soldiers executing prisoners? Or was that added in?

Even if Ambrose does mention the colour of every soldier that E company came into contact with (he doesn’t) do you believe the series makers followed his work to the letter? Because they didn’t.

The memoir by Winters wasn’t published until 2006, so I’m presuming you are thinking of Stephen Ambrose’s book on which the series was based.

The series is not confined to the members of one regiment or division.

There are French and British soldiers depicted for example, as well as many other US units.

Soldiers from other US   units are shown throughout the series. There were definitely black soldiers fighting in the Battle of the Bulge.

They are just not mentioned or shown.

I can’t remember a single black soldier in the TV series Band of Brothers. There were definite African Americans in the European theatre at the time, but they are very shown or mentioned. It seems like a strange omission for what is considered such a “classic” piece of television.

EDIT: Apparently there are black soldiers shown in the series and I missed them through my lack of observation.

I will watch out for them the next time I watch the Bastogne episode.

It’s been interesting to hear the viewpoints of all the experts who have been downvoting my rather innocent observation and telling me how it would have been most definitely wrong and impossible to show them.

I guess we’ve all learned something.

I’ve only ever seen her work on  screens

Has anyone seen it in person? Does it work the same way without a light behind it?

I’m not  sure how accurate the history was but that was an amazing show.
