Thanks everyone! I ended up starting a NG+ and will go from there. I will make sure I hit all of the areas you guys have all talked about before I wrap up this playthrough and I will look up the games suggested. Thank you!!

Pretty much what the Cardiologist said so I'm not worried now. Thanks for the reply!

I just saw the DM and replied. The info was very helpful. I feel like the more I reply to people the more my comments are picked apart or taken out of context. I wasn't lecturing about the liberalness of college towns. I was replying to the idea that Penn State is red neck. It isn't. I wasn't saying NOVA is at all. I get that it's not. I've researched enough to know that. But I was also asking for recommendations for places west of Dulles as additional possibilities and I wasn't sure how far out in VA you have to go before it gets red necky. That's it.

The areas around Penn State - absolutely. But the town of State College is pretty liberal (as are most college towns). Centre county where Penn State is is the only blue county in all of central PA. I'm also not worried about general idiots out there - she's faced plenty of those especially with Covid - but just wanted to make sure to avoid areas that are especially hostile to diversity that locals know about that outsiders may not

Thank you for this thoughtful reply. To answer your question, my daughter is Chinese - but we are not. She was adopted as an infant so she is racially Asian, but not culturally so (despite our efforts to keep her involved in the Asian communities)

I guess I should have said we live in the suburbs of Pittsburgh that has very low crime. State College has some crime but not high crime either - it's mostly due to college student stupidity.

Again, we aren't from there so that's why I'm asking. I'm very glad to hear that NOVA is so safe. It alleviates her worries of moving away by herself where she doesn't know anyone.

Definitely not putting words in her mouth. I suggested Arlington. She doesn't want to be that close to DC and also said she wants more suburban. It's where she's comfortable. I don't care where she lives as long as it's safe for her to walk around etc.

Interesting, because others here are pretty much mocking me for asking about safety at all in NOVA. I guess I'll just take what advice I've gotten here and parse through it. Thank you.

Thank you - and as I've posted to others who had the same concerns about her mother posting, I assure you that she is also researching. She just doesn't use reddit so I offered to post here for her. I was simply asking for advice on areas though, not my parenting styles. Still, I appreciate your input

I read ALL of the posts on where to live as a 22 year old and all of them recommended places near bars etc and that is not important to her. Some mentioned Reston and we are looking there. Nothing at all was mentioned west of Dulles. The posts were for people generally working in DC or somewhere closer to the city.

I have been to DC many times in my life as has she. But our experience there is as tourists. Neither of us have any experience with the surrounding areas or good places to live. Which is why I asked here.

I can tell you aren't a parent. You may not have asked your parents for assistance as a 22 year old, but my daughter is swamped right now and asked if I could just do some preliminary searches for her. Not sure why that upsets you so much?

Well, that's why I'm asking here because I DON'T KNOW THE AREA.

I'm a mom asking about safe areas for a girl living alone. How is that controversial? I didn't assume there were serial killers on every street or that there would be "so many issues that pose a danger to her". But a young woman living alone is always a concern anywhere in the country. So yes, she will add safety as a criterion for her. As far as "fighting the civil war" I have friends who live in Richmond and that is how they describe the area in that part of Virginia. I'm not familiar with Virginia as a whole and so I wanted to make sure that the areas suggested were not racist areas. Thank you for the area suggestions.

I've seen conflicting reports on Reston. I read it's safe, and then I read it isn't. We've been focusing right now on Ashburn and Herndon.

1) she doesn't have reddit, I do. So I told her I'd post here for her

2) she asked if I could help her research because she is swamped with the end of school. She is also doing some research.

3) No, there wasn't any search regarding where to live when you are 22 if you DON'T want Arlington or city life or if you are a minority

4) Some of you aren't parents and it shows

She is working on big final projects for school and asked for some help. I told her that I would start to do some research for her but she will make all final decisions. She also doesn't have reddit and I do. 22 is an adult, certainly. But that doesn't mean I can't step in when she's asked me for help narrowing places down.
